Anthony Blinken to visit China on June 18 despite “eavesdropping” concerns

China : Reuters reports that the U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken would visit China on June 18.Blinken had postponed his visit earlier in February because the U.S. charged Beijing of sending a spy balloon into its skies.

It is noteworthy that the US Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Beijing was setting up a spy base in Cuba. However, the White House spokesman John Kirby said the WSJ report was inaccurate.

A Defence Ministry spokesman also said Wall Street Journal’s report was incorrect.

Beijing didn’t comment on this report either.

Cuba said this report has been deliberately published to justify the continuing American embargo on the small island. Cuba is roughly 100 miles from the Florida coast.

The East Coast of the United States is home to several naval facilities, the largest of which is in North Carolina.

The United States Central Command is located in Florida, t state closest to Cuba.

U.S.-China ties

Both countries have had an uneasy relationship in recent years.

Beijing has accused Washington of using Taiwan as an espionage base. Taiwan is 110 miles away from China and both countries are separated by the Taiwan Strait.

The United States routinely conducts drills in this narrow strait, angering China.

Last week, a Chinese vessel came dangerously close to an American warship.

In May 2023, a Chinese fighter plane approached an American fighter aircraft “dangerously” in the South China Sea.

The U.S. policy on China

An article in Hinrich Foundation suggests that the bipartisan policy on China is showing cracks.

The Chinese balloon crossed the whole of the U.S. before being shot down off the coast of Carolinas. Republicans say that Biden is soft on Beijing.

Democrats, on the other hand, say shooting the balloon overland could have injured many Americans.
