Elon Musk: 2 laid off employees now developing a new Twitter alternative app

Elon Musk: Users have been looking for alternative platforms since Elon Musk took over Twitter and laid off thousands of employees while also changing almost every other rule at the company and the platform. There are several alternatives to Twitter available out there and now two former Twitter employees are building another platform and they are calling it “Spill”.
Musk laid off Alphonzo Phonz Terrell and DeVaris Brown during the November mass layoff. Since then, both have stated that they have been working on a social media platform called Spill in order to compete with the bird app. They also stated that the Spill app will cater to “culture drivers” and act as a safe haven for Black Twitter creators. The app is intended to be “a real-time conversational platform that puts culture first,” according to the platform’s two creators. The platform, according to the founders, will go live in January.

Terrell was Twitter’s global head of social and editorial until the new CEO laid off thousands of employees. Brown, on the other hand, worked at Twitter as a product manager lead with a primary focus on machine learning. Musk also laid him off during the mass layoffs last month.
During an interview with TechCruch, the Spill founders stated that they became friends while working at Twitter as Black employees.

Objective behind creating Spill

Spill was founded because the founders wanted to create a space to highlight the cultural contributions and influential content creation of Black users. “I was just talking to Black female creators, Black queer creators, and I was like, ‘How do you make your money?’ Even before I left Twitter. Is there any platform that will help you? ‘Does the concept of Spill appeal to you?'” Terrell told the newspaper.

“While Spill is for everyone, we are catering to culture drivers who frequently set new trends but routinely go unnoticed and underpaid,” Terrell wrote in his Spill launch announcement post. “Yes, we mean Black creators, Queer creators, and a variety of influential voices from outside the United States,” he explains.

“Tea parties,” a feature that will allow users to connect online or in person

The app’s founders also revealed that it will use blockchain to compensate users for popular posts and will include a feature called “tea parties” that will allow users to connect online or in person. “It’s not a web3 issue,” Terrell clarified.  “But the use of blockchain is for both crediting creators and setting up a model for us to compensate them automatically. If they have a spill that goes viral and we monetize it, it’s really effective.”

Meanwhile, Musk is working with existing employees to create what he refers to as Twitter 2.0.
