Israeli Spyware Firm Accused of Hacking Journalists and Advocacy Groups Worldwide by 10 countries

Microsoft: According to a recent study by Microsoft Corp. and the internet watchdog Citizen Lab, hacking tools from an Israeli company have been used against journalists, political opponents, and advocacy groups in at least 10 different nations, including those in North America and Europe. According to a research by Citizen Lab, iPhones belonging to members of civil organisations had been compromised by spying software created by the Israeli company QuaDream Ltd.

QuaDream Ltd. is a less well-known rival of the Israeli spyware firm NSO Group

According to Citizen Lab’s research, it was possible to identify a small number of victims from civil society whose iPhones had been compromised using the malware, according to Reuters. QuaDream Ltd. is a less well-known rival of the Israeli spyware firm NSO Group, which the US government has blacklisted due to claims of abuse. Microsoft stated that it had “high confidence” that the spyware was “strongly linked to QuaDream” in its study that was released at the same time. Mercenary hacker organisations like QuaDream “thrive in the shadows,” according to a statement from Microsoft Associate General Counsel Amy Hogan-Burney, and public exposure of them is “essential to stopping this activity.”

Although neither Citizen Lab nor Microsoft were able to identify the intended users of QuaDream’s software

The email address of Israeli attorney Vibeke Dank was included on QuaDream’s corporation registration form. Although neither Citizen Lab nor Microsoft were able to identify the intended users of QuaDream’s software, the claim might still be harmful to the company. The reports follow US President Joe Biden’s announcement of a crackdown on the global spyware sector. The White House unveiled an executive order last month with the goal of discouraging US government agencies from purchasing surveillance technologies if those tools are also utilised by oppressive regimes abroad.
