By defeating Indian-origin Rishi Sunak by over 20,000 votes Liz Truss has become the new prime minister of United Kingdom.
Truss, New UK PM said that she is greatful for all the support “I am grateful for your support. It is has been a hard-fought contest. The contest shown the depth of talent the party has. Would like to thank Rishi Sunak,” said Liz Truss after being appointed the Prime Minister of UK.
“I see the UK and India in a sweet spot of the trade dynamics that are building up,” Truss, 47-year-old made this statement while visit to India and held virtual talks with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, soon after signing the Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP)
Soon after the announcement that Liz becomes nee UK prime minister, Jeremy Corbyn a leader of the Labour Party stated that she needs to do is tackle the cost of living crisis that has been pushing millions of people into poverty. Taking to social media platform twitter he said, “The first act of Liz Truss’ premiership should be taking immediate action to tackle the cost of living crisis that is pushing millions into poverty — this must be a wealth tax and bringing energy companies, water, mail and rail into public ownership.”
After being embroiled in a scandal for several months, Boris Johnson was compelled to announce his resignation in July. On Tuesday, he will travel to Scotland to present his resignation to Queen Elizabeth. He will be succeeded by someone who will be tasked with forming a government.
