Pakistan’s National Assembly passes motion to investigate Chief Justice over alleged misconduct

Pakistan: According to reports, the Pakistani National Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution to submit Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial for alleged misconduct. The decision by Pakistan’s lower house comes amid an ongoing demonstration by PDP and JUI-F supporters against the judiciary over alleged privileges offered to PTI leader Imran Khan. Earlier in the day, JUI-F leader Asad Mahmood, Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and others urged for bringing a reference on the alleged “double standards” of CJP Bandial.

Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, urged his party members and supporters to be prepared on Monday since the ruling party (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) might decide to outlaw them soon. With intentions to outlaw the biggest and sole federal party in Pakistan, around 7,000 PTI members, leaders, and women have been imprisoned, according to Imran Khan.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) protesters’ continued demonstrations outside the Supreme Court have prompted the Islamabad police to reassure residents that the situation in the nation’s capital is calm while advising them to avoid travelling to the Red Zone. The cricketer-turned-politician, who has a sizable following in Pakistan, urged all residents to be prepared for peaceful rallies, stating that once the Constitution and Supreme Court were destroyed, Pakistan’s dream would be over.
