Russian Civil War: Wagner troops enter Lipetsk on their March towards Moscow, what’s in store?

Russian Civil War: Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Russian mercenary group Wagner has stated that all of his troops have crossed into the Russian border from Ukraine. This development comes hours after President Putin accused Wagner of ‘armed mutiny’ and vowed to destroy ‘traitors.’ Russian authorities are claiming that Kyiv is taking advantage of internal conflict by making inroads into the city of Bakhmukht. The Wagner leader has proclaimed that his troops are ready to go  “all the way” against the Russian military forces. The authorities in Moscow are beefing up security in wake of threat posed by the private militia. Moscow is fortifying its position along M4 highway and has started air attacks on Wagner convoys as the group aims to march on the capital. According to UK military intelligence the mutiny represents ‘most significant challenge to the Russian state in recent times’

Lipetsk Governor urges people to stay at home

The Governor of Russia’s Lipetsk region which lies north of captured city of Voronezh has asked residents to stay at home. Security was tightened in city after Wagner fighters crossed the border from Ukraine. The governor had earlier announced closing of M4 highway to civilian traffic with the border of Voronezh region. The highway connects Moscow with southern regions of the country. The press service of regional government issued a statement on Social Media “To ensure law and order and the safety of the citizens of the Lipetsk region, the operational headquarters of the region asks residents without urgent need not to leave their homes and refrain from any travel by personal or public transport.”

Russian forces attempt to trample down on Wagner

An airstrike was conducted on a convoy of Wagner troops by the Russian forces. The attack was on a highway near Voronezh. The Wagner group consists of 25,000 fighters with battle experience in Ukraine, Africa and Syria. Meanwhile Russian spy chief has claimed that attempts to spark a civil war has failed. The Moscow Oblast is being fortified and machine guns are being set up on southwestern edge of the city. Russian forces have commenced construction of sandbag fortifications around Moscow and armed police is gathering at the M4 Highway.
