Saudi Arabia: 20 Umrah pilgrims dies in road accident

A bus carrying pilgrims to Mecca crashed on a bridge in Saudi Arabia. 20 people died in the accident, while 29 people were injured. The bus was carrying passengers for Umrah to Mecca. Then the bus collided with the bridge and overturned due to brake failure near Saudi’s Asir state and caught fire.

According to media reports, the passengers on the bus were from different countries. However, information about which countries these are has not been revealed. As soon as the accident happened, the Civil Defense team reached the spot for the rescue operation. The injured have been admitted to hospital.

Passengers will not be able to repeat Umrah in Ramadan

On the other hand, on March 26, the Saudi government issued a new guideline regarding Umrah. The government announced that Haji can perform Umrah only once in the month of Ramzan. No pilgrim will be allowed to perform Umrah twice. The Ministry of Haj and Umrah said that this decision has been taken keeping in view the safety and convenience of the Hajis.

The Saudi government has said in the guideline that all the passengers should follow the time limit fixed for Umrah. Also, use the Nusuk app for permits only. If a passenger is not able to go for Umrah even after getting the permit, then his booking will be cancelled.

What is Umrah?

Umrah is a Muslim religious pilgrimage similar to Hajj. In Saudi Arabia, pilgrims can go for Umrah at any time except during Hajj. However, it is crowded during the month of Ramzan. The time limit for this journey is 15 days. During the days of Umrah, the pilgrims spend about eight days in Mecca and seven days in Madinah.

Travelers from outside Saudi Arabia require a special visa for Umrah. This visa is valid for one month. People living in and around Saudi Arabia can perform Umrah without any special documents.
