Suicide attacker among worshippers

According to Geo News, a ‘suicide attacker’ blew himself up inside the mosque during prayers. The suicide attacker was present in the front row during the prayers when he exploded himself, security officials were quoted as saying.

Those injured in the explosion were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, the officials said. Hospital sources said 13 of those injured were in a critical condition.

An emergency has been imposed in the locality and the area has been cordoned off.

Toll may rise

There are fears the death toll will rise as many of the wounded were listed in critical condition.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing in Peshawar, the capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan.

A 38-year-old police officer Meena Gul, who survived the explosion, said he was inside the mosque when the bomb went off. He said he doesn’t know how he survived unhurt. He could hear cries and screams after the bomb exploded, he said. There were more than 150 worshippers inside the mosque when the bomb went off, Gul added.
