Trump calls for negotiating peace in Ukraine, says aftermath of mutiny is the right time

Trump has called for an end to hostilities in Eastern Europe.

Russia-Ukraine War: As per former President of the United States the right time to negotiate Ukrainian peace has arrived owing to the fact that Russia has been left somewhat weakened in the aftermath of aborted mutiny last month. On Thursday, Trump spoke with Reuters on a telephone interview emphasizing that United States should step up and bring an end to hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump has repeatedly said that he wishes to see the end of conflict in Ukraine. He also stated “I want people to stop dying over this ridiculous war.” According to Trump, Ukraine might have to make territorial compromise to achieve peace in the region.

West’s stand on negotiations

President Joe Biden of United States and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) allies wish to completely repel Russian presence in the Ukrainian territories including Crimea. Trump believes that Putin’s administration is under domestic pressure that is a consequence of Wagner’s attempt at instigating a rebellion. As Russia position is weakened Trump wants to seize the moment and bring Russia and Ukraine on table.

Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also been adamant on pushing back Russian forces from Eastern Ukraine and has dismissed any ideas of territorial concession to bring peace. Zelensky has backing of NATO in this regard and Ukrainian counteroffensive to advance its position is being announced for months on end.

Trump’s relationship with Russia

During his tenure as POTUS, Trump had cordial and warm relationship with his Russian counterpart. In lead up to 2016 elections Trump on multiple occasions had hailed Putin as real leader for his country. Trump drew sharp criticism over his relationship with Vladimir Putin especially after he denied Russian involvement in meddling of elections in a press conference held directly after a meeting with Russian President.

Although Trump blames Biden administration for failing to prevent conflict, it is important to note that Trump himself had initiated Ukrainian armament after signing of Minsk agreement. While Trump has suggested that Ukraine might have to make territorial concessions, he praised valiant efforts showed by Zelensky and Ukrainian forces in defending their land from invasion.
