On Monday, banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) directed its militants to launch attacks across the nation on Monday, breaking an indefinite ceasefire agreed upon with the government in June.
“As military operations are ongoing against mujahideen (militants) in different areas, so it is imperative for you to carry out attacks wherever you can in the entire country,” the militant group said in a statement.
The announcement was made the day before the new army chief was scheduled to take office and the day after the English cricket team arrived in Pakistan for the first time in 17 years to play the first test series.
The TTP, commonly referred to as the Pakistan Taliban, was established as an organization for several militant groups in 2007. Its principal objective is to enforce its stringent interpretation of Islam throughout Pakistan.

The banned group said that “a series of non-stop attacks were launched by the military organizations” in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province’s Bannu and Lakki Marwat regions after the truce was decided to end.
It added that despite warning the population repeatedly about ceasefire violations, it had exercised patience to avoid “sabotage, at least by us,” of the talks.
