US Confused On Flydubai Incident? Donald Trump Says Iran Involved, JD Vance Cites Lack of Proof

President Donald Trump said on Monday that he personally believes Iran was behind the attack on a flydubai flight, in which an Omani co-pilot allegedly tried to seize the aircraft and crash it. Vice President JD Vance said he had seen nothing conclusive establishing an Iranian role.

Washington has sent mixed signals over the flydubai cockpit incident. On Monday, President Donald Trump said he personally believes Iran was behind the attack. Vice President JD Vance, asked about the same incident, said he had seen nothing conclusive that establishes an Iranian role.

What Happened on Flight FZ1073

The incident took place on Wednesday, 30 September, on flydubai flight FZ1073, travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. There were 174 passengers on board, most of them Israeli nationals. Investigators say Omani co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami attacked the captain inside the cockpit and allegedly tried to seize control and crash the aircraft. Indian captain Smit Machchhar reportedly thwarted the attempt and kept the passengers safe. One report says the Boeing 737 MAX 9 dropped about 17,400 feet during the incident.

Trump’s Personal Belief

Trump framed his view as a personal belief rather than the result of an official finding. He said he did not want to get ahead of any announcements, but that it was something officials were looking at. That wording suggests the claim comes from instinct or informal briefings, not verified intelligence.

Vance Urges Caution

Vance took a more measured line. He said he had seen no conclusive evidence of Iranian involvement and deferred to the intelligence agencies. His position reflects the fact that neither US officials nor the ongoing UAE investigation have publicly produced proof linking Tehran to the attack.

Tensions Add Weight to Every Word

The remarks land at a sensitive time. Relations between Washington and Tehran have been strained since the conflict earlier this year, so any claim of Iranian involvement can quickly escalate. A premature accusation could harden positions in the region, while a delayed one could draw criticism for caution.
