Xi-Jinping Certain To Assume A Rare Third Term – China’s Roadmap For The Next 5-10 Years Drawn

Beijing: Jinping all set to assume a rare 3rd term as Chinese Head of Party and Military

When the West is deep in slumber, China is witnessing the once in 5 years Communist Party(CPC) meeting that kicked off just a few hours before, where Xi-Jinping is almost certain to assume a rare third time in office as the head of the party and the military.

In an opening ceremony started in the Great Hall of the People, at 10.00 am Chinese Standard Time, Jinping was delivering his political report in front of nearly 2300 delegates and Chinese Politburo members.

Xi started his speech with a summary of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC)’s achievements over the past five years, highlighting its initiatives in poverty alleviation, national defence and global diplomacy.

The party had led the people in successfully responding to the “severe and complex international situation”, decisively safeguarding national security, fending off major risks and maintaining social stability, he said, adding that the Congress was taking place at a “critical moment” for China.

This address of Jinping will provide adequate indications of China’s policy priorities, possible amendments to the Zero-Covid approach, its game plan towards Taiwan, and the push for the country’s economic prosperity and technological drive.

It will be a road map for China for the next five to 10 years and possibly longer.

China always comes up with shocking surprises

Allaying all rumours that emanated after the recent SCO meet in Samarkand, Uzbekistan the Congress will strengthen President Xi’s hand by giving him a rare third five-year term as general secretary of the CPC and chairman of the Central Military Commission while ushering in personnel and policy changes.

During the week-long ‘Congress’, about 2300 delegates will elect the strong 370-odd-members in the Central Committee. Central Committee will in turn, at its first plenum, elect the seven-member Politburo Standing Committee – the pinnacle of power in China – and the wider Politburo of 18 other members, as well as the Central Military Commission.

Significant amendments in Chinese Constitution

There are widespread indications that the Party’s Constitution will undergo significant amendments to promote Jinping’s – ‘Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era’ – that was already enshrined at the last party ‘Congress’.

The ‘Navigator’ and the ‘People’s Leader’ at par with ‘Mao Zedong’

In all likelihood, Jinping may be bestowed with titles such as ‘Navigator’ and the ‘People’s Leader’ while putting him at par with ‘Chairman Mao Zedong’ who was known as the ‘Great Helmsman’ and the ‘Great Leader’

Will China annexe Taiwan using sheer force?

Jinping’s political report on Taiwan will be significantly observed, especially amid escalated tensions with the US, after Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s irksome visit to Taipei in August this year. But, the report is not likely to include a time frame for annexation or reunification with Taiwan, although Beijing claims it as its fiefdom since 1949.

Jinping has categorically mentioned in his address that he is determined to oppose Taiwan’s independence, will ‘never’ renounce the right to use force.

China may not abandon its longstanding policy of seeking peaceful reunification, nevertheless, the Anti-Secession Law passed in 2005, mandates non-peaceful means, a determined Jinping is likely to step up his most enduring legacy of  Taiwan reunification if Taiwan formally declares independence.

A spokesperson for the Congress, Sun Yeli told reporters on Saturday in a pre-conference press briefing that Beijing is willing to continue to work for achieving peaceful reunification with Taiwan, at the same time it also reserves the right to use force.

But Jinping’s immediate priority would be on economic growth and employment as well as improving the Chinese standard of living.
