Tata Punch EV: Futuristic electric vehicle to debut in Auto Expo 2023, checkout specifications and other details here

Tata Punch EV: At the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata Motors will display the Punch EV, probably in a close-to-production form. Additionally, we now know that the Punch will go into production around June 2023, with a commercial introduction during the holiday season the following year.

Tata Punch EV: What’s new?

The Punch EV will be based on a new Sigma architecture, which is essentially a substantially modified version of the ALFA platform, unlike Tata’s current electric vehicles, which are straight ICE to EV conversions. The ALFA architecture, which also supports the Altroz hatchback and the ICE-powered Punch, was created with electrification in mind from the very beginning.

In order to make room for a huge battery pack, the Sigma architecture has adjusted gasoline tank space and removed the transmission tunnel. Models built on the re-engineered platform are likely to be lighter, more energy-efficient, and more spacious than ICE cars that have been converted to EVs. This is because the platform has been optimised for electrification.

Similar powertrain with better performance

Although the battery parameters are not yet available, the Punch EV is believed to have a similar engine configuration to Tata’s current EVs, with a permanent magnet synchronous motor driving the front wheels. To position the car across a range of price points, Tata Motors may provide numerous battery pack alternatives (as is the case with the Nexon, Tiago, and Tigor EVs).

To differentiate it from its ICE predecessor, the Punch EV may also receive cosmetic modifications elsewhere, such as redesigned bumpers, coloured accents, and wheels. Similar accents might also be added to the interior, and the equipment list could be updated.

Expected price and rivals

It would be fascinating to observe where Tata places the Punch EV in relation to the rest of their current lineup of electric vehicles. It will likely be positioned above the Tiago EV depending on the powertrain, while there may be some pricing overlap with the Tigor EV. If the pricing difference between the Tiago EV and its ICE sister is any indication, the Punch EV’s starting price will most likely be Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh higher than the Punch AMT’s top model.

Although it won’t have any direct rivals in the Indian market, the Punch EV will somewhat challenge the Nexon EV and the XUV400.
