She found it shocking that a Muslim woman’s veil was pulled so carelessly. Zaira also criticised the display of a casual smile during the act and emphasised that those in power do not have the right to cross boundaries. She called on Nitish Kumar to apologise unconditionally to the woman.
Sharing a post on her official X account, she wrote, “A woman’s dignity and modesty are not props to toy with. Least of all on a public stage. As a Muslim woman, watching another woman’s niqab being pulled at so casually, accompanied by that nonchalant smile, was sooo infuriating. Power does not grant permission to violate boundaries. @NitishKumar owes that woman an unconditional apologyyy”

The incident took place during a public event where CM Nitish Kumar was handing over appointment letters. In the viral video, he is seen lifting the hijab of a Muslim female AYUSH doctor, followed by a smile.
The video quickly went viral on social media, which led to a heated debate. Alongside Zaira Wasim, several politicians and citizens have expressed their objection to the Chief Minister’s action.
