Shark Tank India 5: Shark Tank India has returned with its fifth season, and one of the latest episodes sparked a strong debate over a bold weight loss promise. An entrepreneur from Bengaluru entered the tank with a five-day guided fasting programme and claimed it could help users lose up to 2 kg in just five days. While the promise sounded attractive, it quickly raised red flags among the sharks.
The entrepreneur Varun introduced his brand OutLive and explained that the programme focuses on controlled eating over five days. However, as the discussion progressed, the sharks began questioning the science, pricing, and long-term value of the product. Anupam Mittal appeared unconvinced and increasingly frustrated.
Varun asked for Rs 1 crore in exchange for 4% equity, valuing his company at Rs 25 crore. He presented a box priced at Rs 7,000 and said users must eat only what is provided inside for five days.
He explained his isea and said, “Every meal is supposed to give you high-satiety, high-nutrition and low-calorie food.” Varun added that the programme helps people improve their relationship with food.

Shark Tank India 5: Sharks Question The Weight Loss Claim
As the pitch continued, the sharks began pointing out gaps in Varun’s explanation. Namita Thapar questioned the electrolyte content in one of the products. Instead of addressing the concern calmly, Varun became defensive and resisted feedback.
When asked about scientific or clinical proof, Varun said he had conducted a user study in 2023, where participants reportedly lost 2-4 kg in five days. This answer did not satisfy the panel.
Anupam Mittal openly challenged the claim and the pricing. Pointing at the box, he said, “Tu 7 hazar ka dabba leke aaya hai, isme Rs 500 ki cheezein nahi hain. You are saying people will lose 2 kgs because of this. That’s not because of this. It’s because of calorie restriction, and that’s primarily water loss in the first 5 days. You think people will pay Rs 7000?”
Anupam also remarked that Varun was sounding like a YouTube video. When Varun spoke about food science, Namita shut down the argument with, “What food science?” She became the first shark to EXIT the deal.
No Deal For OutLive, Founder Reacts
Kunal Bahl then asked if the concept was inspired by an international brand. Varun admitted he was following a US-based company that has been operating for 25 years and currently does $15–20 million in business. This surprised Kunal, who questioned the scale of success and decided to opt out, advising Varun to “speak less, listen more.”
Anupam later told Varun that he seemed “misguided AND lost” and suggested he might do better as an influencer. Aman Gupta also stepped out by saying, “Maybe India isn’t ready for this.” Mohit Yadav followed, leaving Varun without any offers.
After leaving the tank, Varun called the experience one of the HARDEST of his life. He added, “I don’t think they gave me a fair chance.” The episode has also triggered debate about fast weight loss claims online.
