The success of Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar‘s Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge has now turned into a political controversy. The film is doing well at the box office, but some political leaders have raised objections to its story. The issue started after viewers noticed that one character in the film appears to be inspired by gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed.
Former Rajya Sabha MP KC Tyagi criticised the film and questioned the part where the character is shown having links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. His reaction has increased the debate around the film and its political references.
Dhurandhar 2 Controversy: KC Tyagi Calls Atiq Ahmed-ISI Angle ‘Dangerous Trend’
KC Tyagi said the Dhurandhar 2 shows something very serious and such scenes should be handled carefully. According to him, connecting real people with foreign intelligence agencies without proof can create confusion among the public.
While reacting to the scene shown in the film, he said, “This is a dangerous trend, and the government should adopt a strict stance on it.”
Besides this, Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan also criticised the film. He said that no official agency has ever confirmed such connections, so people should not believe everything shown in movies.
He said, “Who they were connected to and who they were not, our police know this very well. Whether it was the ISI, CIA, or KGB, our intelligence agencies and police have yet to make a revelation.”
He also warned viewers not to treat films as real facts. He added, “Our intelligence or police have not made any such revelation so far, but no one knows what these film people might reveal about anyone.”
Hasan further claimed that controversies are sometimes created to make films more popular. He said, “As these topics get highlighted by the media, the public becomes curious to see what is in them. The film becomes successful. This is also a tactic. I think film companies also take money from political parties to spread hatred.”
Why Atiq Ahmed-Inspired Character In Dhurandhar 2 Sparked Debate
The controversy began because of a character named Atif Ahmed in Dhurandhar 2. The role is played by actor Salim Siddiqui, and many viewers believe the character is based on Atiq Ahmed.
In the film, Atif Ahmed is shown as a link between Indian criminal groups and Pakistan’s ISI. He is seen working with Major Iqbal, played by Arjun Rampal, and helping in illegal activities such as supplying weapons and fake currency. The story also shows him running these operations even while being in jail.
Because of this portrayal, some leaders feel the film may give the wrong message. They say showing such connections without official proof can mislead people.
Atiq Ahmed was known for his criminal and political background in Uttar Pradesh. He served as an MLA and Member of Parliament. In 2023, he and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj while being taken by police.
