The disclosure directly contradicts the Delhi Police’s earlier public position denying pellet gun use against the demonstrators.
Two Officers Named in the Blame Game
Reporting has since pointed to two officers of DCP rank as being involved in authorising force that day. Newslaundry’s review of the record noted that DCP North Raja Bhatiya, on duty with a Rapid Action Force deputy commandant, had directed the force to act, while a separate document names DCP New Delhi Sachin Sharma as the officer who signed off on dispersing the crowd. Outlook India, citing the same diary, reported that the entry confirms the RAF fired pellets
“on the instructions of a Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner of Police.”
Rahul Gandhi Demands Accountability From Amit Shah
CJP Protest: The revelations have sharpened an existing political confrontation. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi had already written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah days earlier, holding him responsible since Delhi Police and central forces function under his ministry. In his letter, quoted by The South First, Gandhi called the incident deeply disturbing, writing that
“Most shocking has been the use of lethal pellet guns.”
