Vivo returns as IPL’s title sponsor for the 14th edition

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League for which the auction is currently underway has roped in Vivo as its title sponsor once again. The smartphone brand has been sponsoring the cash rich tournament for quite some years but was disassociated last year due to its link to China, a country India has been loggerhead with.

The Indian Premier League chairman Brijesh Patel on Thursday confirmed that Vivo has returned as title sponsor for the T20 tournament this year after staying away last year.

“Vivo is back as the sponsor this year,” Patel said prior to the auction that is being held in Chennai. Last year, Dream 11 had beaten a number of sponsors including Unacademy and Byju’s to headline the tournament.

IPL 2021 is expected to be held in April-May even as the last edition of the league was postponed to September in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

In yet another development, the tournament will also see spectators as the second Test between India and England at the MA Chidambaram saw footfalls.

“We saw fans attending the second Test. After one year of no fans, the fans will most likely return for this IPL edition,” said the IPL chairman Brijesh Patel.
