The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has rolled out a new feature called ‘Passbook Lite’ on its member portal, aimed at providing subscribers with a more convenient and simplified way to track their provident fund accounts.
Announcing the feature, Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that members can now directly access a simplified version of their EPF passbook on the portal itself, without the need to log in separately to the passbook website.
Key Benefits for Members
With the new feature, subscribers will be able to view details of their contributions, withdrawals, and balance in one place. This not only saves time but also reduces the load on the dedicated passbook portal.
Additionally, the existing API has been integrated into the member portal, making the system more user-friendly and efficient.
Simplifying Transfers
Until now, when employees changed jobs, their EPF account had to be transferred to the new employer’s PF office through an online Form-13. The old PF office would then prepare a transfer certificate and send it to the new office.
Now, members will be able to download this transfer certificate directly in PDF format from the portal. Additionally, the portal allows subscribers to track the real-time status of their transfer applications, eliminating delays and increasing transparency.
Boost to Digital Reforms
The EPFO has been working to align its services with the government’s Digital India vision, offering employees greater control over their retirement savings. The new feature integrates APIs within the member portal to create a one-stop platform for PF-related services.
Experts believe the introduction of ‘Passbook Lite’ will not only save time for members but also improve their trust in EPFO’s online systems. It reflects the organisation’s ongoing push toward paperless, digital-first governance.
Now, with the new system, members will be able to download the transfer certificate directly in PDF format from the member portal.
Subscribers can also track the status of their transfer applications online, ensuring greater transparency and ease of confirmation.
Towards Digital Convenience
Officials said the launch of ‘Passbook Lite’ is part of EPFO’s broader effort to enhance digital services, reduce procedural hurdles, and empower subscribers with quick access to their retirement savings information.
This move is expected to benefit millions of salaried employees across the country, ensuring faster, smoother, and more transparent management of their provident fund accounts.
