Delhi News: Commute Made Easy! CM Rekha Gupta Gifts 401 Buses to Commuters, Check Details

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta is continuously trying to ease public transportation in Delhi. For this she added 400 buses in May and now going to add new 401 buses in June. Thousands of more buses will be added by the end of this year and next year.

Delhi News: In the beginning of May 2025, 400 DEVI buses were brought on roads by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta as an initiative of Delhi’s ongoing drive for a pollution free tow and greener transport system. In the same direction these 401 are being added by the government.

Details of Newly Added Buses by CM Rekha Gupta

These new additions of 401 new nine-meter electric buses in Delhi by mid-June are under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Initiative (DEVI). Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said, "To support the people of Delhi and improve the city’s transport while contributing to a cleaner environment, we are committed to increasing the number of electric buses as promised." The new electric buses are planned to be launched between 10 and 15 June and are part of the city’s broader plan to enhance sustainable urban transport. Singh further said that the number of electric buses would continue to increase in the coming months.

Features of These New Buses

These new DEVI buses are created with keeping in mind the safety and convenience of commuters. These buses are containing CCTV cameras, live tracking systems, panic buttons, and motorized ramps to help passengers with disabilities. Moreover, these buses have retractable steps at a low height of 40 cm which ensures convenience in boarding and landing.

Current and Potential Situation of Transport System in Delhi

At current, Delhi has 1,895 electric buses, out of these 1,800 buses are under the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and 400 buses are under the Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS) Cluster scheme. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta during her recent budget speech, revealed plans to improve Delhi’s urban transport infrastructure with the support of funding from central government.
She told that, "Around 5,500 buses will be maintained by the end of this year and 11,000 buses will be on the roads by 2026. Bus routes will also be reevaluated to address loopholes in the system." 
 
To make the easy availability of public transport in Delhi and making it pollution free, Delhi government already added 400 buses in the beginning of May and new 401 buses are being added in June; more buses to be added by the end of 2025 and 2026.
