In a major first for passengers, the Panchavati Express has become the first train in India where you can withdraw cash on train. Yes, you read that right. Indian Railways has installed an ATM inside the Mumbai-Manmad Panchavati Express, offering a truly unique and helpful service for train travellers.
Indian Railways Brings ATM on Train - Cash Withdrawals Now Possible While Travelling
Under the Innovative and Non-Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme (INFRIS), Indian Railways has partnered with the Bank of Maharashtra to launch this smart facility. The cash on train concept was tested successfully in an AC coach of the Panchavati Express.
Even while the train moves, passengers can withdraw cash on train without hassle. Though there were slight network issues between Igatpuri and Kasara due to poor connectivity, the ATM worked smoothly overall.
Passengers From All Coaches Can Access the ATM
Though the ATM is installed in an air-conditioned coach, passengers from all 22 coaches of the Panchavati Express can use it. The train's vestibule connections allow easy access from any coach.
Apart from withdrawing cash on train, passengers can request cheque books and get account statements directly from the ATM.
ATM Also Available on Jan Shatabdi Express
This ATM will also serve the Mumbai–Hingoli Jan Shatabdi Express, as both trains share the same rake. This means even more passengers will enjoy the cash on train service during their journeys.
Indian Railways May Expand the Facility
According to officials, if this pilot project becomes popular, similar ATMs could be installed on more trains. The ATM is protected with a shutter and monitored by CCTV cameras 24/7 to ensure safety.
Indian Railways continues to innovate—bringing modern services like ATM and cash withdrawal on train right to your seat.
