UGC: NEET and JEE main may get merged into CUET, more insights here!

UGC: Recently, UGC has been working on a proposal wherein Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Mains and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examinations may get merged into Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG).

In a recent media interview, M Jagdesh Kumar, UGC Chairperson said that the higher education regulator is working out a committee to deliberate with different stakeholders to reach a consensus on the bid which is aimed at reducing stress and logistics for students.

According to the proposal, instead of appearing for 4 subjects that is Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics in all three entrance exams, students can then take the exam only once and will be eligible for and explore different felids of study, the chairperson said in the interview.

“The proposal is, can we integrate all these entrance examinations so that our students are not subjected to multiple entrance examinations based on the same knowledge base? The students should have one single entrance examination, but multiple opportunities to apply among the disciplines,” said Kumar.

Around 43 lakh students (combined) appear for NEET, JEE and CUET as they are the major entrance exams in the nation.
