Has Karan Johar Ever Worked With Asha Bhosle?
Karan Johar has never directly collaborated with Asha Bhosle in his own films. However, her voice has been part of projects linked to his career journey.
He worked as an assistant director on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which featured the hit song “Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main” sung by her. In his own filmmaking career, Johar has mostly worked with singers like Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal, and Arijit Singh.
Still, Johar has often expressed deep admiration for Asha Bhosle. His 2023 film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani featured “What Jhumka,” a modern recreation inspired by her iconic song “Jhumka Gira Re.” He has also publicly called himself a “massive fan” of her voice and versatility.
Asha Bhosle And Her Journey In Indian Music
Asha Bhosle’s journey in music began when she was just ten years old. She started singing to support her family. In her early career, she often got smaller or less popular songs, while her sister Lata Mangeshkar became a leading voice in playback singing.
However, she slowly built her own identity through versatility and experimentation. Her breakthrough came in the 1950s with composer O.P. Nayyar, especially with the hit song “Uden Jab Jab Zulfein Teri” in 1957.
In the 1970s, her partnership with R.D. Burman changed Hindi film music. Songs like “Dum Maro Dum” and “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja” gave her a bold and modern image.
She continued to evolve across decades. She won national recognition for her soulful performance in Umrao Jaan (1981), including “Dil Cheez Kya Hai.” Later, she impressed audiences with experimental work like “Mera Kuchh Saamaan” in 1987.
In the 1990s and 2000s, she remained relevant with hits like “Rangeela Re” and “Radha Kaise Na Jale” from Lagaan. Over her career, she recorded more than 12,000 songs in over 20 languages.
She was also recognised by the Guinness World Records as one of the most recorded artists in history. Her voice became a defining part of Indian cinema, spanning generations of actors and changing musical trends.
