Assi Box Office Collection Day 1: Taapsee Pannu Starrer Loses Clash To Do Deewane Seher Mein Amid, Opens Lower Than Thappad And Mulk

Taapsee Pannu’s courtroom drama Assi opened to a slow start, collecting Rs 1 crore on Day 1 amid a box office clash. Despite low occupancy, positive reviews may drive weekend growth.

Assi Box Office Collection Day 1: Taapsee Pannu starrer Assi arrived in cinemas but failed to make an impact on box office. The courtroom drama marks her third collaboration with filmmaker Anubhav Sinha. Given their past successes, expectations were balanced. However, the Day 1 performance looks disappointing. Read on to know more!

Assi Box Office Collection Day 1

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Assi collected Rs 1 crore on its opening day. The figure is modest for a film led by a trusted actor-director duo and supported by a solid ensemble cast. The limited release may have contributed to the slow start. The film screened across approximately 1700 shows nationwide.

At the same time, Assi faced direct competition. Mrunal Thakur and Siddhant Chaturvedi starrer Do Deewane Seher Mein was released on the same day. It opened slightly higher at Rs 1.25 crore net. The clash appears to have divided audience attention.

Occupancy numbers highlight the lukewarm response. On Friday, Assi recorded an overall occupancy of 7.38%. Morning shows began quietly at 3.88%. Footfalls improved in the afternoon, reaching 7.24%. However, the momentum dipped again in the evening to 6.92%. Night shows showed a mild recovery with 11.48%.

Regionally, Delhi-NCR registered the highest show count with 426 shows. Still, occupancy there stood at only 7.5%. Mumbai followed with 326 shows and a similar 7.75% occupancy. These trends suggest that urban centres saw limited turnout.

Despite the slow opening, the night-show rise offers a small positive. It hints that weekend numbers could improve if word-of-mouth strengthens.

How Assi Performs Against Taapsee Pannu’s Previous Films

Compared with earlier collaborations, the opening appears weaker. Thappad debuted strongly at Rs 3.07 crore. Likewise, Mulk opened at Rs 1.68 crore. Both films benefited from strong reviews and steady audience interest.

FilmDay 1 (India Net Collection)
AssiRs 1 crore
Do Deewane Seher MeinRs 1.25 crore
ThappadRs 3.07 crore
MulkRs 1.68 crore

The contrast becomes sharper when placed alongside Taapsee’s recent theatrical releases. Khel Khel Mein opened at Rs 5.05 crore. Meanwhile, Dunki delivered a massive Rs 29.2 crore Day 1.

However, Assi did perform better than some of her smaller solo films. Dobaaraa had opened at Rs 70 lakh, while Shabaash Mithu collected Rs 50 lakh on Day 1.

Among courtroom dramas, Assi trails behind Haq, which opened at Rs 1.75 crore. On the other hand, Jolly LLB 3 delivered a powerful Rs 12.5 crore opening.

Notably, the film’s debut also falls short of Taapsee’s landmark legal drama Pink, which had earned Rs 4.32 crore on its first day.

For Anubhav Sinha, though, there is a slight silver lining. The opening surpasses his previous theatrical release Bheed, which collected Rs 50 lakh on Day 1.
