Actor Rajpal Yadav is currently serving a six-month jail sentence in a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case. He shared that he was facing severe financial hardship and had no one to turn to. His difficult situation has drawn sympathy from fans. Now, Sonu Sood has stepped in to help the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 actor. Meanwhile, online users have questioned why other Bollywood stars have stayed silent.

Sonu Sood Steps Up For Rajpal Yadav

On Tuesday, Sonu Sood offered Rajpal a film role along with a small signing amount to help him financially. He clarified that this was not charity, but a professional gesture to show solidarity.

On his social media, the Fateh actor wrote, “Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us… producers, directors, colleagues to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work. It is not charity, it’s dignity.”

He added, “When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.”

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “It’s disappointing to see big stars like Akshay Kumar & Salman Khan turn a blind eye to Rajpal Yadav’s struggles. He delivered laughs in their superhits. Their success in the 2000s is as much because of Rajpal as themselves.”

Another commented, “It came as a surprise and shock to everyone that nobody in Bollywood, despite having huge bank balances, came forward to help him, especially people like Priyadarshan and others who worked closely with him.

A third user said, “Good Job, Sonu! This is a very noble gesture. Hope others join you in this too.”

Rajpal Yadav’s Legal Troubles

Rajpal’s legal issues began in 2010 when he took a Rs 5 crore loan from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film failed at the box office, triggering repayment problems and leading to seven bounced cheques.

In April 2018, a Magisterial Court convicted Rajpal and his wife, Radha, under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. The Sessions Court later upheld his six-month simple imprisonment sentence.

Despite several attempts to clear the debt, including depositing Rs 75 lakh in 2025, Rajpal could not pay the remaining amount. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected last-minute pleas and ordered him to surrender. On February 5, 2026, Rajpal reported to Tihar Jail at 4 PM to serve his sentence.

Rajpal had earlier admitted, “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta. Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain. There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.”
