In a recent interview with Screen, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol opened up and discussed their journey in the industry, career so far and upcoming projects among a slew of others topics. During this discussion when the host asked Bobby Deol about OTT career, he replied by saying, ‘That was exactly what I was trying to do was break away from the image of being a Deol.’
In the conversation with Screen, the Ashram actor shared his thoughts on OTT and how it has been a great thing for the industry. He mentioned that the advent of OTT platforms has created a lot more jobs in the industry and compared it to IPL. Moreover, he shared how much OTT helped him in changing his image. Expanding on it he shared that he did not tell his family about his role in Ashram because he believed that they would oppose it. But that was exactly what he was looking for because it broke the stereotypical Deol image.
‘I still remember when I got Ashram, I never told my mum, dad or my brother that I’ve just met someone to do a show called Ashram. Because I knew they would tell me you cannot do that because that character is too controversial or how can you play this and that… And that was exactly what I was trying to do was break away from the image of being a Deol, you know because the Deols are always the good guys. But we are actors. We don't want to just play good guys, we want to play diff characters and challenge myself as an actor.
On the topic of iconic dialogues, the host of the interview asked Sunny Deol his reaction to Bobby playing a mute character in Animal. The Gadar actor responded to this by praising his younger brother’s work and complimenting him for his attributes. He further added that his brothers work in OTT allowed him to be seen by a lot more people than the theatres.
‘It’s just that what happens is that somehow you don’t get the opportunity and things don't come through and I always say that when he did ashram and all those other tv series which came on the ott platforms they were watched by millions of people. So, I always believe that even if people are not watching you in the cinema you are reaching out to people through all the other platforms.’
In the interview Bobby Deol also opened up about his career struggles along with talking about family with his brother. The elder Deol brother also talked about his upcoming films namely Border 2 and Jaat and Ramayana. To watch the conversation in its entirety go to Screen’s official YouTube channel.
