Teja Sajja is back on the big screen with his latest release, and this time he has managed to outshine even his own blockbuster. After the phenomenal success of HanuMan last year, the young star returned with Mirai, an action-packed spectacle that hit theatres on Friday.
Mirai Box Office Collection Day 1
According to Sacnilk, the film has collected around Rs 12 cr net across India on its opening day. This means it has broken the record set by HanuMan, which had earned Rs 8 cr on day one.
The numbers are encouraging for Teja, who is steadily making space for himself among the bankable young stars in Telugu cinema. With good pre-release buzz, Mirai has had a strong start and looks set for a good run in the coming days.
The film has performed especially well in the Telugu-speaking states. Day one recorded an overall 68.59% Telugu occupancy, reflecting the excitement in its core market. Morning shows began with a healthy 56.2% occupancy, which climbed to 63.61% in the afternoon. The evening shows saw a jump to 70.75%, while the night shows peaked at an impressive 83.81%.
Among cities, Hyderabad led the charge with 404 shows and a staggering 85.5% occupancy. Bengaluru also contributed significantly with 346 shows, clocking in at 43.75% occupancy. While the Telugu version has carried the film on its shoulders, the pan-India release has seen modest numbers in other regions. Tamil occupancy stood at 19.5%, Malayalam at 16.69%, Hindi at 10.86%, and Kannada at 5.86%.
Competition With Other Pan-India Releases
While Mirai has comfortably surpassed HanuMan, it still trails behind some other recent pan-India biggies. Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom opened with Rs 18 cr, Dhanush’s Kuberra started at Rs 14.75 cr, and Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaaj recorded a massive Rs 25.35 cr debut. Nani’s HIT: The Third Case also collected more, with a Rs 21 cr start.
That said, Mirai fares well when compared to other recent Telugu releases. It outperformed the animated film Mahavatar Narsimha, which had a modest Rs 1.75 cr opening but later turned into one of the year’s biggest hits. It also edged past Naga Chaitanya’s Thandel, which earned Rs 11.5 cr on day one.
About Mirai
Directed by Karthik Ghattamaneni, Mirai stars Teja Sajja in the lead along with Manchu Manoj, Ritika Nayak, Shriya Saran, Jagapathi Babu, and Jayaram. With Dharma Productions backing the Hindi release, the film has reached audiences beyond the South.
Initial reviews are mixed, but strong word-of-mouth could boost its run. With action and drama, Mirai is expected to attract crowds over the weekend. Day one numbers are already a win for Teja Sajja, and now the question is whether the film can match or beat HanuMan’s success.
