Wearing mantras as fashion is becoming common, but not everyone agrees with it. Vrindavan’s spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj has strongly spoken against it. He said wearing mantras on clothes is not just disrespectful but also spiritually harmful. His comments have sparked a debate about whether such trends are hurting religious beliefs.
This happened when a devotee visited his ashram wearing a shirt printed with the Shiv Mantra. Maharaj ji said, “Our request is that you should not wear the clothes you are wearing because mantras are written on them. This has become a new trend in Kalyug, which is not right.” He made it clear that mantras are not for show.
Pramanand Maharaj: Mantras Belong In Heart, Not On Clothes
Premanand Maharaj explained that Vedic mantras are for personal prayer and not meant to be displayed. He said, “These are Vedic mantras that should be in the heart, not on clothes.” He added that mantras should be received from a Guru and chanted silently, not spoken out loud or worn.
He also warned about the negative effects of using powerful mantras in public. “People chant these openly now, thinking it's good. But it’s not. All this is inauspicious. Buddhi bhrasht karne vala karya hai.” According to him, such misuse can affect the mind.
Mantras And Fashion: Is It Disrespectful?
This incident has started a wider discussion. Many people are questioning the trend of printing mantras on clothes. Experts say that when people wear such clothes to markets or bathrooms, it disrespects the mantras.
Premanand Ji suggested a solution. “Immerse such clothes in Yamuna ji and never wear them again.” He and other scholars believe that mantras should be treated with purity, not used for style. Some see this trend as a new form of devotion, while others say it’s a misuse of sacred words.
