Ajit Doval teams up with US, UAE and Saudi Arabia to Strengthen India’s Presence in Middle East

Ajit Doval: Along with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the US, India is now actively seeking a larger strategic position in the Middle East, even as New Delhi observes with “concern” Beijing’s growing influence in that region. For this reason, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Saudi Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Sunday.

The I2U2 is solely concerned with business and trade between four nations

This is India’s second attempt at taking such action in an effort to become more actively involved in Middle Eastern politics. India is a member of the I2U2 programme, which started in 2022 and became known as the “Middle East Quad,” together with the US, Israel, and the UAE. The I2U2 is solely concerned with business and trade between these four nations, in contrast to the new effort, which is expected to develop into more of a strategic or military alliance but has not yet been given an official name.

State Antony Blinken is anticipated to travel to Saudi Arabia

The plan, despite Riyadh and Tehran having reached a type of “understanding” thanks to Beijing’s mediation, was led jointly by the Saudis and the Americans in an effort to build a “robust front” against Iran, according to the sources. The purpose of the meeting on Sunday, according to the White House, was to “advance their shared vision of a more secure and prosperous Middle East region interconnected with India and the world.” Next month, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is anticipated to travel to Saudi Arabia to assess the status of the Global Coalition against ISIS/Daesh, which was established in September 2014.

This marked a significant improvement in relations between the two countries. Putting their differences aside, Riyadh and Tehran also declared they will resume flights and reestablish their diplomatic missions in one other’s nations. This is a desperate attempt by the US to intervene in West Asia now that China has stepped forward and achieved the peace agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, according to Talmiz Ahmad, a seasoned diplomat and former Indian envoy to Saudi Arabia. Since the US’s initial goal to form a military coalition against Iran has failed, it is currently in a panic and wants to include India as well. Ahmad added, “For India, this is being part of the multi-alignment. He is also the author of West Asia At War: Repression, Resistance, and Great Power. India must negotiate bilaterally with China and exercise caution when negotiating with the Middle East.
