Delhi MCD election: Delhi to have its first single mayor in 10 years

Delhi MCD Mayor election: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will reconvene today, January 24, to elect a deputy mayor and its first female mayor in ten years. Voting will start at 11 am. Prior to the commotion between members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), it was supposed to take place on January 6.

Elected council members to take the oath first

At the Municipal Corporation of Delhi meeting on Tuesday, the elected council members will take the oath first, followed by the nominated members.

No paramilitary soldiers have been stationed in the House, according to the MCD. There are only Civil Defense volunteers there. For protection and safety purposes, Delhi police officers are stationed outside the fourth storey. There are about 100 civil defence volunteers stationed here. Police officers who are women have also been sent out.

Then, all of the proposed council members will take the oath. While objecting to this, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did not raise a fuss. AAP council members shouted “shame shame” during the swearing-in of newly nominated council members.

Delhi to elect its first single mayor in 10 years

Following the unification of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) last year, Delhi will soon elect its first single mayor in ten years. Two candidates from the Aam Aadmi Party, who won the MCD elections with 134 seats, are Shelly Oberoi and Ashu Thakur. The BJP’s candidate for mayor is Rekha Gupta, a three-term councilwoman representing Shalimar Bagh.

Aaley Mohammad Iqbal and Jalaj Kumar, who are competing against Ram Nagar councillor Kamal Bagri for the position of deputy mayor, have been nominated by the AAP. In the MCD elections on December 4, the AAP toppled the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 15-year rule.
