Delhi MCD Elections: Congress promises to waive off house tax dues if voted to power

Delhi MCD Elections: Delhi Congress Wednesday said it would cut the house tax to half, promising to waive pending payments, interest and penalty accumulated, if voted to power in the upcoming Delhi MCD polls. The party also promised no house taxes for villages.

Congress promises to waive off house taxes

Chaudhary Anil Kumar, president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), stated that Congress was in a strong position in the MCD elections and that the party’s top priority after retaking control of the MCD would be to streamline house tax collection. We will waive the outstanding balances owed by residential tax payers, reduce future taxes by half, and exempt villages from house tax. This will relieve 25 lakh homeowners who pay property taxes.

“Our party’s first priority after returning to MCD will be to streamling the house tax collection. We will waive off the dues of residential taxpayers while future tax will be halved,” Kumar said. “The residents of villaged will be exempted from paying any tax on their residential properties,” he added.

Rajiv Bhawan, president of the DPCC, said that while Congress is raising pertinent issues, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are dodging them in the MCD elections to divert people’s attention from their overall platform.

He claimed that the BJP and AAP were responsible for making Delhi the most corrupt and polluted city in the world.
The villagers had been exempt from House Tax under the Congress Government, but the BJP had put them in the tax bracket, he continued. In order to ensure complete tax collection and increase the MCD’s revenue, Congress would encourage everyone who is subject to the tax to pay it.

As a result of the BJP-ruled MCD’s incapacity and inaction, Chaudhary claimed that the current assessment of property is based on the 18-year-old first Municipal Valuation Committee (MVC) that was put in place during the Congress Government. The Kejriwal administration established the fourth MVC on February 1st, 2017; their recommendation was also not carried out.
