Education Budget 2023: Nirmala Sitharaman announces 157 new nursing colleges, R&D grant to one of the IITs

Education Budget 2023: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the fifth straight Union budget today, February 1. It is the final full budget fo the Modi 2.0 before the next elections in 2024. After introducing her seven mantras for Amtrit Kaal, the FM announced a few reforms in education sector, introducing new colleges and enhanced training for teachers.

157 new nursing colleges will be established: Sitharaman

The finance minister announced that a total of 157 new nursing colleges will be established along with the existing 157 medical colleges that have been established since 2014. 

38,800 teachers support staff to be recruited for Ekalavya Model Residential schools

In the next 3 years, the Centre will recruit 38,800 teachers and support staff for 740 Eklavaya Model Residential Schools serving 3.5 lakh tribal students, the finance minister announced.

National Digital Library to be set up 

A National Digital Library for Children and Adolescents will be set up for facilitating availability of quality books across languages, geographies and genres; states to set up physical libraries and provide infra to access the library resources: FM Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the Budget in the Lok Sabha.

National Child Trust, Children’s Book Trust and other sources will be encouraged to provide and replenish non curricular titles in regional languages and English, to these libraries; collaboration with NGOs working in literacy will also be done, she said.

R&D grant to one of the IITs 

Govt to provide R&D grant to one of the IITs to encourage indigenous production of lab-grown diamonds in a bid to reduce imports. 100 labs for developing applications for 5G services will be set up in engineering institutions: Nirmala Sitharaman 

Skill India International Centres 

New-age courses for industry 4.0 like coding, AI, IOT, mechatronics, drones and other soft skills will be launched. 30 Skill India International Centres will be set up across states, the finance minister said.
