Humayun Kabir: Humayun Kabir, the former member of Trinamool Congress (TMC) who served as a cabinet minister during First Ministry of the then Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee, has announced his plans to form a new party challenging Mamata Banerjee.
Humayun Kabir and Babri Masjid
A few days back, Kabir announced the building of a Babri Masjid in his native Murshibad in the political backwaters of Bengal. The formation of his Janata Unnayan Party while being suspended from the ruling Trinamool Congress has rattled a few feathers in TMC. Kabir announced he would contest 135 of Bengal’s 294 Assembly seats.
Many in the political circles believe that Humayun Kabir may be successful in splitting the Muslim vote in the state of West Bengal. If this happens, it could be disastrous for Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress.
Kabir and Special Intensive Revision (SIR): Double Trouble for Mamata
As per recently released Special Intensive Revision (SIR) data, the number of voters deleted in the draft electoral rolls for Bengal exceeds the victory margin in more than 50 per cent of the seats that the BJP had won in the 2021 Assembly polls.
Bengal BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya remarked more names would be deleted when the final rolls would get published in February 2026 ahead of the Assembly polls.
The Bhartiya Janta Party is counting on more than 1 crore voters whose enumeration forms have been marked by the Election Commission as having “logical discrepancies.” A senior BJP leader said the party is not in power and does not have the organizational strength and the administrative backing to carry out electoral manipulations.
Former BJP Bengal president Dilip Ghosh said urban areas like Kharagpur town have witnessed high levels of migration because of Trinamool’s absence of focus on industrialization and employment.
