IIT Kanpur to conduct research on sudden heart attack deaths during physical activity

IIT Kanpur: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur will conduct detailed research into sudden heart attack deaths while people are engaged in physical activities.Lately, there have been many reports of people dying suddenly while running, dancing or being engaged in other physical activities.IIT Kanpur is a premier engineering college in India. The latest NIRF rankings place IIT Kanpur among the top 5 in India.Apart from imparting engineering education to undergraduates and postgraduates, IIT Kanpur also collaborates with other high-ranking research institutes such as the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Research in Lucknow.Now IIT Kanpur will use its technical expertise and research collaborations to understand why people die suddenly while dancing, running and doing other activities.A research team is being assembled by the institute for this purpose and it will comprise PhDs in science and engineering.

The Gangwal Institute of Medical Science and Technology, currently under construction, will lead IIT Kanpur’s initiative to understand the causes of sudden heart attack deaths.
The expert team will build a system that will warn individuals of the symptoms of sudden heart attacks. Through this, IIT Kanpur hopes to reduce the cases of sudden heart attack deaths significantly.


More people experiencing serious medical problems


According to LocalCircles, 51% of the people it surveyed know people who had heart or brain strokes and other medical conditions. This percentage stood at 31% last year.
Furthermore, 61% of the people in the close network of those surveyed had been double vaccinated.

IIT Kanpur researchers will take all these statistics into account while trying to understand deaths from sudden heart attacks.
