India Hits Back at Pakistan’s UNGA Address, Demands to ‘Vacate PoK’ and ‘Stop Terrorism’

India criticised Pakistan at the United Nations for its persistent backing of cross-border terrorism while they raised the 'Kashmir' issue.

India at UNGA: During the United Nations session on Friday, India confronted Pakistan, calling on it to halt cross-border terrorism, dismantle terrorist facilities within its borders, and to leave Indian territories it occupies unlawfully.

India’s response was prompted by Pakistan’s interim Prime Minister Anwar Ul Haq Kakar, who raised the Kashmir issue during his speech at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. During the UNGA session, India exercised its right to reply to Pakistan’s speech, condemning them for consistently exploiting international platforms to propagate anti-India stand.

India Hits Back to Pakistan

India reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of its territory, and Pakistan has no legitimate grounds to comment on the matter. Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at UN for the second committee of UNGA, said, “During the UNGA session, India exercised its right to reply to Pakistan’s speech, condemning Islamabad for consistently exploiting international platforms to propagate anti-India rhetoric. India reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of its territory, and Pakistan has no legitimate grounds to comment on the matter.”

Continuing further, she said, “We reiterate that the Union Territories (UTs) of Jammu and Kashmir are an integral part of India. Matters pertaining to the UTs of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are purely internal to India. Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on our domestic matters.”

Pakistan’s interim PM speaks on ‘Kashmir’

India has consistently conveyed to Pakistan that simultaneous engagement in terrorism and diplomatic dialogue is incompatible. It has consistently raised concerns about Pakistan’s backing and promotion of cross-border terrorism. During his speech, Pakistan’s interim Prime Minister, Anwar Ul Haq Kakar, expressed Pakistan’s desire for peace with India and emphasized that “Kashmir is the key to peace between the two countries”.

India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, is currently representing India at the United Nations and is scheduled to deliver a speech during the 78th session of the UNGA on September 26.
