The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued an instruction to all agency banks that handle government transactions to stay open on March 31. This is despite of the fact that the day would be a holiday in many states of the country.

However, in-person transactions by individuals would not be performed by banks today. This means that you should not visit the bank physically today as it would be closed for you. The banks would only be open for government-related transactions.
Would UPI Payments And Digital Transfers Be Available?
Yes, you can perform UPI payments and digital transfers today as usual. A majority of banks in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bhopal, Chennai, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur and Ranchi would be closed on March 31, 2026, on the account of the birth anniversary of the 24th Tirthankara – Lord Mahavir.
Banks would not entertain banking solutions today for SMEs, MSMEs and retail customers while UPI, digital banking, ATM and online transfers would work as usual.
