Union Minister Giriraj Singh has strongly criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for frequently making sharp remarks against Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Speaking at an event on the eve of Savarkar Jayanti, Singh said that while Rahul continues to attack Savarkar, his grandmother Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, had once honoured him by issuing a postal stamp in his name.

“The one you abuse so often was once honoured by your own grandmother,” Singh said, addressing Rahul Gandhi indirectly. “In the 1970s, Indira Gandhi recognised Savarkar’s contribution and issued a stamp in his name.”
Union Minister Says Savarkar Was A Great Soul
The Union Minister further said that Savarkar was a great soul who lived for the nation, and urged people to follow in his footsteps. “I see people on TV debating and speaking against the nation, mocking Savarkar. But we must remember that Savarkar's ideals are what kept the country united,” Singh added.
He went on to emphasize that the idea of ‘nation’ should always take precedence over caste or community concerns. “Prime Minister Modi speaks of caste, women, and social issues, but his central focus remains the nation. Even during discussions on caste census, the national interest must remain the priority,” he asserted.
Also present at the event, former BJP National Secretary Sunil Deodhar joined in the criticism of Rahul Gandhi’s comments on Savarkar. He claimed that Savarkar never sought mercy from the British and accused Rahul Gandhi of spreading lies. Calling Rahul a “foolish person,” Deodhar said, “He is trying to tarnish the image of a true patriot by making false allegations.”
This war of words once again highlights the ideological divide between the BJP and Congress, especially around historical figures like Savarkar, whose legacy remains a point of contention in Indian politics.
