India’s most promising sustainability entrepreneurs were honoured at EcoKranti-Shubh Labh 1.0, the Grand Finale of the national sustainability-focused startup movement under the Startup India Bharat Startup Challenge 2026, held at The Art of Living International Center. The two-day summit brought together innovators, investors, policymakers, researchers and industry leaders to accelerate solutions for a greener, more sustainable India.

The initiative received over 900 applications from startups, researchers, institutions and changemakers across the country out of which 26 leaders were selected . Following a rigorous evaluation process, the finalists presented scalable solutions spanning climate technology, circular economy, waste-to-wealth, green manufacturing and sustainable rural development.

The Winner of EcoKranti Shubh Labh 1.0 was ISM ClimaTech, founded by Deepali Jadia and Dr. Harish Jadia, for its technology that converts difficult-to-recycle packaging waste into industrial raw materials, returning them to the manufacturing supply chain. Acala Design and Tech Pvt. Ltd, led by Chetan Patil and Priya, was named First Runner-up, while In Waste Technologies Pvt. Ltd., secured the Second Runner-up position led by Jatin Mittal .

Special honours were presented to ECMT (Best Sustainability Startup), Cocycle Horizon Pvt. Ltd. (Social Impact Award), Banavrit (Best Rural Impact Startup) and Intrinsic Foundries (Best Climate Tech Startup).

Unlike conventional startup competitions, EcoKranti focuses exclusively on sustainability and rural development, recognising enterprises that create measurable environmental and social impact.

“We want to maintain the ethos of our organisation by bringing together people who are here to create change and make an impact, not just earn profits,” said Devang Vora, Director and Trustee, Sri Sri Rural Development Programme (SSRDP).

Alongside investor interactions, mentoring sessions and startup showcases, participants also underwent the Sahaj Samadhi Meditation Program, reflecting The Art of Living’s holistic approach to entrepreneurship.

Shri Arvind Varchaswi, Managing Director, Sri Sri Tattva, highlighted the importance of inner wellbeing in building purpose-driven organisations.

For the winning startups, the event offered far more than recognition.

The summit also reflected the growing impact of the EcoKranti movement. Over the past two years, it has reached 10,000 households, helping eliminate nearly 200 tonnes of recurring single-use plastic waste. Over the next two years, the initiative aims to expand to one million households, preventing another 1,000 tonnes of single-use plastic while strengthening India’s circular economy.

Punjab has introduced an internationally accepted drug de-addiction treatment known as Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT) for people with severe opioid dependence. The introduction of methadone marks a significant step in the state’s treatment-focused approach to tackling drug addiction.

Conventional treatment has largely relied on Buprenorphine-based Opioid Substitution Therapy through the state’s more than 500 OOAT centres, which involves replacing harmful opioids with regulated medication to treat addiction, and abstinence-based rehabilitation. The introduction of MMT provides an additional treatment option for patients with long-term opioid dependence who have not responded adequately to existing therapies.

Six dedicated methadone clinics are now operational across Punjab at Government Medical College, Faridkot; Civil Hospital, Ludhiana; Government Medical College, Patiala; and district hospitals in Gurdaspur, Mohali and Jalandhar. The state also plans to establish six more MMT centres in the coming months, taking the total number of dedicated facilities to 12.

On this, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said the expansion of methadone facilities is part of the state’s anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nashean Virudh, which places a strong emphasis on rehabilitation, particularly for people with opioid dependence who are at a high risk of relapse. “Methadone Maintenance Therapy, implemented in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), provides an effective treatment option for people with long-term opioid dependence. The comprehensive approach would improve recovery outcomes and help patients successfully reintegrate with their families and society,” he added.

The newly established clinics will function as specialised outpatient facilities where patients will receive supervised methadone therapy along with psychological counselling, psychiatric consultation, relapse prevention services, family counselling and regular follow-up.

Patients will have to visit the clinic daily to receive their prescribed dose under medical supervision. The daily doses are administered under medical supervision to prevent misuse and ensure adherence to treatment.

What is Methadone Therapy?

Methadone is an evidence-based treatment for people with opioid use disorder, like those addicted to heroin. Methadone is included in the World Health Organization’s Model List of Essential Medicines for treatment of opioid use disorders. It is prescribed and administered under the supervision of trained medical professionals as part of a comprehensive treatment programme.

Methadone works by binding with the same opioid receptors in the brain as heroin and other opioids. Depending on the prescribed dose, it controls cravings, prevents withdrawal symptoms, and produces opioid tolerance which stops one from getting an opioid-related ‘high’. This enables patients to stabilise their health and engage more effectively in treatment, work, and family life.

Over time, the methadone dose may be tapered based on clinical assessment and recovery goals. Since the patients ingest the medicine daily at a clinic under supervision, the risk of diversion or misuse of the dose is substantially low as compared to take-home prescriptions.

Because methadone is a long-acting medication, a single daily dose is usually sufficient to control withdrawal symptoms and cravings for approximately 24 hours, helping patients maintain stability throughout the day.

Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora today said that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is making continuous efforts to create a progressive and employment-friendly ecosystem across the state. He was addressing the gathering at the Mega Job Fair organised in Sunam.

The first Mega Job Fair for the Sangrur, Malerkotla and Barnala cluster was jointly organised by the Department of Industries and the Department of Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training. Candidates between 18 and 50 years of age participated in the event and secured employment opportunities offering monthly salaries ranging from Rs 12,000 to Rs 42,000, depending on their qualifications and experience.

A total of 61 leading companies from across the country and the state participated in the fair, while 2,129 job seekers attended. During the event, 562 candidates were selected for employment, while 618 candidates were shortlisted by various companies for further recruitment. Letters of Intent (LoIs) were also issued to selected candidates on the spot.

The Cabinet Minister said that over the past four and a half years, the Punjab Government has provided nearly 70,000 government jobs to deserving youth in a completely transparent manner, without any bribery or political recommendations.

He added that government jobs alone cannot provide employment to every young person. Therefore, it is essential to create an ecosystem in which private industries and companies can also generate large-scale employment opportunities for the youth.

The Department of Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training and the Department of Industries are working together as a bridge between employers and job seekers by connecting companies with skilled youth. Some of the major companies participating in the fair included Sonalika, Mahindra Tractors, KRBL, Avani, A.P. Organics, Max, Nahar Spinning, and several other reputed industrial units.

The fair offered employment opportunities to candidates with a wide range of educational and technical qualifications, including 10th and 12th pass, ITI (Boiler, Electrical and Mechanical trades), B.Sc. (Non-Medical), B.Com., graduates, diploma holders (Mechanical and Electrical), and CNC-certified candidates.

Responding to a media query on developing an IT hub in Punjab on the lines of Bengaluru and Hyderabad, Mr. Aman Arora said, “Mohali already has a well-established and thriving IT hub. Besides this, thousands of young people are employed in the IT and allied sectors in major cities such as Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar. Young people should have the freedom to pursue better employment opportunities wherever they are available.”

On the occasion, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora visited the counters of all participating companies and interacted with company representatives as well as job seekers.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal strongly condemned the lathi-charge on students and young aspirants protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, demanding reforms in the education and examination system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Stating that lakhs of young people had gathered in the national capital seeking justice, the former Delhi Chief Minister said the government had chosen to respond with force instead of dialogue. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set aside arrogance, listen to the country’s youth, and address their anger before it deepens further.

During his visit to Punjab, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal reacted to the ongoing youth protest at Jantar Mantar. He said, “Just look at the situation in Delhi. Connaught Place is packed, Janpath is packed, and Jantar Mantar is overflowing with people. Thousands and lakhs of young people from across the country have gathered here, but instead of listening to them, the government is using its full machinery of repression against them. The police are lathi-charging students and beating them. Internet services have been suspended, and they are being prevented from marching to Parliament. This is completely wrong. Where are these young people supposed to go?”

The AAP Chief further said, “The government first allows their examination papers to be leaked. Then, when the examination is conducted again, there are serious irregularities in the evaluation process. Students keep filing complaint after complaint, but no one listens to them. Where are these students supposed to go? The government has ruined their future. And now, when they come out on the streets to seek justice, they are being lathi-charged. This is absolutely unacceptable, and the students are deeply angry.”

Appealing directly to the Prime Minister, Arvind Kejriwal stated, “I want to tell Prime Minister Modi that you must address the anger of these students. Otherwise, it will prove very costly for you. Sit down with these young people and talk to them. They are the children of our own country. Why is the government refusing to engage with them? Why is there so much arrogance?”

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “There are countless students who believe that education can transform their lives and secure a better future for their families. They wake up at 3 a.m. to study and spend 14 hours a day preparing for examinations like NEET. But just one or two days before the examination, they come to know that the paper has been leaked. Wealthy people purchase the leaked papers, and only their children get ahead. This is completely wrong.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann added, “I fully support the ongoing protest by our students at Jantar Mantar. We all stand firmly with the students in their fight for justice.”
