People can provide information anonymously through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946, according to the department.

The most recent statements from Lavrov at UNGA 2026 again put Russia’s stance into the wider discussion of Security Council reform. But if Security Council reform were to take place, it would need to have the consensus of UN member states and amendments made to the UN Charter.

The debate over Security Council reform is expected to remain part of discussions around the future of multilateral institutions. India continues to seek a greater role in global decision-making while also campaigning for a non-permanent Security Council seat for the 2028–29 term.

S Jaishankar: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar hit out at Pakistan during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), calling the country “a serial practitioner of terrorism” who presented “a skewed version of facts” before the UNGA. Addressing the session, he said any measures to escape the consequences of terrorism would not be accepted.

Addressing the debate on the UN General Assembly at United Nations on Thursday, Jaishankar pointed out that terrorism continues to be a serious challenge to international peace and security. There should be accountability for those governments that support or indulge in terrorism, he said. “We will exercise our right to defend ourselves against terrorism.” Jaishankar also laid out India’s approach towards self-defense: “We will exercise our right to defend ourselves against terrorism, and attempts to normalize or claim immunity from the consequences of terrorism will not succeed.”

Remarks came after Shehbaz Sharif’s UNGA address

Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also addressed the UNGA. He had even alluded to the 2025 India-Pakistan military face-off and Kashmir question in his speech. He urged for restraint, de-escalation, and safe havens for civilians and assured the uninterrupted flow of energy and trade while underscoring India’s humanitarian aid and outreach to nations of the Global South.

With deep reverence for the supreme sanctity and dignity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has called a meeting of the seven-member coordination committee constituted for the ‘Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026’, for September 27 at his residence in Chandigarh. The committee will deliberate on the provisions of the Act and matters concerning its implementation, with the objective of upholding the highest standards of satkar and reverence for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

In an official communication, the Punjab Government stated, the meeting will be held at 1:00 PM on September 27 at the residence of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann in Sector 2, Chandigarh. All members of the coordination committee will attend the meeting.

The committee will deliberate on matters concerning the provisions of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, as well as issues related to its implementation.

The seven-member coordination committee comprises Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, Sant Giani Harnaam Singh Khalsa, Sant Baba Sewa Singh, Former Justice Jaswinder Singh, Former Justice Gurbir Singh, former IPS officer Jatinder Singh Aulakh and Advocate S. The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand has been suspended for two days amid heavy rainfall and snowfall in parts of the state. The decision comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red and orange alerts for several districts, citing the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rain.

Snowfall has been reported in high-altitude areas, including the Kedarnath and Badrinath regions, while several parts of Uttarakhand are experiencing persistent rainfall. The weather conditions have also affected road connectivity in mountainous areas.

Heavy Rain and Snowfall Disrupt Uttarakhand

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Uttarakhand on September 26 and 27. Red alerts have been issued for districts including Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar, while several Garhwal districts have been placed under orange alerts.

The weather department has also forecast snowfall at locations situated at elevations above 4,000 metres.

Char Dham Yatra Put on Hold

The pilgrimage has been suspended from September 27 to September 28 in view of the adverse weather conditions and concerns over pilgrim safety. Officials said the yatra will resume once weather conditions improve.

The IMD’s Char Dham forecast has also indicated rain or thundershowers across several pilgrimage routes, including the sectors leading to Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Landslide and Road Disruptions in Pithoragarh

Pithoragarh has also been affected by the continuing rainfall. Reports from the district said falling boulders and debris disrupted traffic on the All-Weather Road, with large numbers of vehicles becoming stranded on both sides of affected stretches.

The latest weather spell has therefore created challenges for both pilgrims and other travellers across Uttarakhand, particularly in vulnerable mountainous areas.

Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday tore into the BJP-led Central Government for systematically weakening employment opportunities for the country’s poor, Dalits and labourers by making major changes to the rural employment scheme. He said the latest figures had vindicated the concerns raised by AAP when the scheme was renamed VB-G RAM-G.

Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated, “The BJP had repeatedly claimed that only the name of the scheme had been changed and that everything else remained the same. However, several components within the scheme that generated employment had been altered. The reality is now before the people. The BJP government has dealt a severe blow to the employment of the poor and labourers of this country.”

Citing the latest statistics, he stated, “Around 9.56 crore fewer person-days of employment had been generated through the scheme compared with the previous year. While around 30 crore person-days were generated last year, the figure had fallen to approximately 20.4 crore this year, representing a massive reduction in employment available to rural workers.”

The Cabinet Minister emphasised, “The impact was particularly significant for Dalit and marginalised communities. Around 87% of the workers covered under the scheme are from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities and the BJP government’s changes have pushed these communities further down. It’s because The BJP is Anti-Dalit and hates them. The BJP government has hit the poorest people where it hurts most, their livelihoods and their daily wages. It makes it clear that the BJP is pushing the poor and Dalits away from employment.”

Harpal Singh Cheema added, “The BJP had come to power promising to increase employment under the scheme to 125 days, but instead of increasing work opportunities, the government has reduced the number of person-days available to workers.”

Harpal Singh Cheema asserted, “These figures clearly show that the BJP government is depriving Dalits, poor people and labourers of employment. They changed the name of the scheme, but they also changed its components and weakened the employment it provided. The BJP government has shown through its actions that it is working against the interests of the country’s poor, Dalits and working people.”
