Avengers Endgame Box Office Collection: Endgame arrived in April 2019 as the finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film earned about $1.2 billion in its opening weekend, a record at the time. It reached the $1 billion mark in just five days.

Its lifetime worldwide collection now stands at around $2.8 billion, with the United States and Canada contributing roughly $858 million.

Chasing 296, India made 295/7 in their 50 overs. Kohli walked in after the fall of Rohit Sharma‘s 32 and was caught up with captain Shubman Gill, who was also accumulating a huge innings. Kohli did not just stay put for the chase; he took the attack to the bowlers from the moment he stepped onto the crease. His 139 comprised 13 fours and nine sixes, the nine sixes being the most he had hit in an ODI innings. Kohli and Gill had already put India well ahead before Gill was run out for 110. Kohli was unbeaten at the close, with Ruturaj Gaikwad finishing unbeaten with him as India ended up 300/2 in 41.4 overs.

Gill adds another century 

In the same way, Shubman Gill was also vital in the chase with a significant knock of 110. Gill’s 10th ODI century set up the stage nicely for India following the early loss of Rohit.

Kuldeep’s spell changes the first innings

Bowling for India, Kuldeep Yadav was excellent before the batters kicked into gear. West Indies made a positive start through Justin Greaves and John Campbell with a partnership of 135 for the opening wicket. Greaves continued to score 101 in the middle. Campbell scored 62. Kuldeep broke in in the middle order and finished with four wickets for 40 runs, ensuring that Windies didn’t get too much.

Bank Strike: The anticipated three-day nationwide strike scheduled for September 28-30, 2023 has been averted in India as bank unions postponed it following late night talks with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA). The three-day strike was called off on September 27, just hours before the strike was scheduled to begin.

Late-night talks change the strike plan

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and IBA had a meeting at about 9.30 p.m. on Sunday. As per the meeting, the unions decided to postpone the strike; after the meeting, both parties decided on several important issues that were pending, including a five-day banking week. It also means the three-day closure scheduled for September 28, 29 and 30 will no longer go ahead as scheduled. Bank branches are likely to be open as usual, depending on each bank.

Five-day banking demand moves to a committee

The principal demand of the agitators was that all the 52 Saturdays should be declared holidays for bank employees. Of the 52 Saturdays, banks declare holidays only on the 2nd and 4th, while on other Saturdays they are open. As per the revised scheme, a high-level committee comprising representatives of IBA and UFBU shall be constituted for consideration of the proposal. The committee shall explore possible alternatives and consult all stakeholders before arriving at a consensus. But that latest deal does not indicate that a 5-day banking week has been introduced. The terms still need to be discussed and considered.

Other pending issues are also on the table

The conversations aren’t only about Saturday holidays. The two parties are also likely to talk over modifications to the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Scale IV and over officers. Similarly, other issues from previous meetings that have been left for decision are going to be once again taken up for consideration. Based on the latest understanding, UFBU has put off its once-again planned agitation and strike program.

What does it mean for bank customers?

What it means for customers: For now, the anticipated three-day interruption has been averted. When the strike was announced, fears arose that it would cause significant delays in branch services, cheque clearance, and other transactions, as September 30 is the half-yearly closing for banks. The government had also issued an advisory ahead of the strike. Public sector banks and regional rural banks were also told to function on Sunday, September 27, to enable customers to carry out important transactions before the call for strike.

10-day classes canceled and mid-term exams postponed by LPU after clashes at the educational institute and the university in Phagwara. 

Classes suspended from September 28

As per the university’s notice, classes for the regular students will remain closed for 10 days starting from September 28, 2026. The midterm exams will be postponed till further notice, LPU stated. The university will inform the students about the new exam dates through its University Management System. The university has permitted students to go to their hometowns during the 10 days after consulting with their parents or guardians. Students who have decided to stay back have been directed to stay inside their hostels and places of residence and not roam around.

Protests lead to campus disruption

The protests had started following rumors that a female student was unsafe among students and on social media platforms. Subsequently, the situation worsened with stone-pelting, attacks on university property, and NH-44 also being blocked near the university campus. LPU had denied the allegations spread about the incident and termed some of the claims as rumors. A case has been registered with the police, and an investigation has begun to bring facts to the fore. An SIT has also been constituted to probe the matter.

Police presence increased around the campus

Nearly 1,400 officers have been used to control the situation, with officials claiming that over 2,000 police officers have been sent to control the situation. At the same time, authorities have asked students to remain calm and act according to the guidelines

The examination schedule remains pending

The delay means students will wait longer for a new timetable for mid-term exams. LPU said the new timetable will be put up on the University Management System once a decision is taken. At this time, the top priority is still ensuring safety on campus while officials will continue to investigate the allegations and what happened in the protest.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib Is Supreme For All Of Us; Will Ensure Strongest Law To Protect Sanctity Of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday reiterated that Sri Akal Takht Sahib is supreme for all of us and that his government will leave no stone unturned to protect the sanctity and dignity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji through the strongest possible legal framework against beadbi. At a detailed meeting with the seven-member high-level committee constituted by the state government, the Chief Minister emphasised that life imprisonment and heavy fines for those who commit beadbi form the core foundation of the law and cannot be diluted.

The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s residence, focused on the provisions of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, concerns raised regarding certain provisions and the way forward through consultation and consensus. He directed the committee to hold detailed and regular meetings with the panel constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib to review the proposed amendments, consider its suggestions and evolve consensus, while ensuring that the law continues to provide the strongest possible protection to the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and brings solace to the deeply hurt sentiments of the Sikh Sangat.

During this, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “While discussing the provisions of the law with the panel constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib and working towards building consensus, the spirit and core objective of the law must not be compromised. The provisions prescribing life imprisonment and heavy fines for perpetrators of sacrilege constitute the core foundation of this law, and therefore the law must not be weakened at any cost.”

The Chief Minister pointed out, “There is no doubt that this law has provided solace to the deeply hurt sentiments of the Sikh Sangat, which has been perturbed over frequent incidents of sacrilege. For the first time, a strong sense of deterrence is being created among those who may contemplate committing such a heinous offence.”

He added, “The sole objective of our government is to ensure the strictest possible punishment for those guilty of sacrilege so that no person can ever dare to commit this grave offence. Certain concerns have been raised regarding some provisions of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, and we are willing to examine these concerns in their entirety.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann noted, “For this purpose, our government has constituted a seven-member committee comprising eminent personalities associated with the religious sphere, intellectuals and legal experts. The committee will hold detailed consultations with the panel constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib and examine every aspect of the law before providing appropriate guidance to the state government.”

“The proposed amendments will be discussed comprehensively so that an amicable resolution can be arrived at after taking into consideration all legal, constitutional and other relevant aspects. I have directed the nodal officer, PCS Harjit Singh Sandhu, to ensure complete coordination for future meetings and provide all necessary assistance to the committee,” said the Chief Minister.

He said, “I have asked the committee members to initiate a series of meetings with the panel constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib so that, through mutual consultation and consensus, the process of making necessary amendments to the law can be initiated, if required. Regular meetings should be held so that consensus can be evolved to the satisfaction of both sides.”

“Sri Akal Takht Sahib is supreme for all of us, and I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve by framing a stringent law to prevent incidents of sacrilege. Our government will approach this entire process with the utmost respect and sensitivity,” affirmed the Chief Minister.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “This Bill was drafted after extensive consultations with legal experts, with the clear objective of ensuring that there are no loopholes in it that could undermine its effectiveness in the future. Whenever an incident of sacrilege takes place, it causes deep anguish to the collective conscience and sentiments of the people, and this cannot be tolerated at any cost.”

The Chief Minister stated, “Our government decided to amend the existing law instead of introducing an entirely new legislation so that the amended law can be sent to the Governor for approval. Our intention is to ensure that the legal framework remains strong and effective while addressing every legitimate legal and constitutional concern.”

He said, “Our government is fully committed to framing a strong law so that the strictest possible punishment can be prescribed for anyone who commits sacrilege. The incidents of sacrilege witnessed in the past have deeply hurt the sentiments and psyche of the Sikh Sangat. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the sanctity and dignity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji remains completely protected.”

“We fully respect the sentiments associated with Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the law provides the strongest possible framework against sacrilege,” said CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.

At the same time, he said, “The proposed amendments will be taken forward with utmost sensitivity and responsibility, strictly in accordance with constitutional and legal principles. The objective of the state government is clear: the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji must remain fully protected and the law must effectively fulfil its intended purpose.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed hope that “the deliberations of the committee will lead to an outcome in keeping with the sentiments of the Sikh Panth and further strengthen the legal framework for protecting the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.”

Members of the seven-member high-level committee who attended the meeting included former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, Baba Sahib Singh representing Damdami Taksal, Sant Baba Sewa Singh Rampur Khera, Justice (Retd.) Jaspal Singh, Justice (Retd.) Gurbir Singh, IPS (Retd.) Jatinder Singh Aulakh and Law Officer Preet Inder Pal Singh. Head of Damdami Taksal Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa joined the meeting online.

Director, Punjab Bureau of Investigation LK Yadav, Advocates GS Ghuman and GPS Ghuman, along with other senior officers, were also present on the occasion.

‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ To Celebrate Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s Birth Legacy, Punjab’s Culture, and Spirit of Rangla Punjab: Baltej Pannu

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Sunday invited Punjabis from across the state to participate in the ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ programme being organised at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) ground in Ludhiana on September 28 to mark the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. Calling it a celebration of Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, music, history and the legacy of its martyrs, Baltej Pannu said the programme would bring together people from across the state along with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, ministers and MLAs.

Addressing a press conference, AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu said, “The ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ programme is dedicated to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and will celebrate the culture, music, history and glorious heritage of Punjab. The programme will begin at 3 PM at the PAU ground in Ludhiana and I appeal to Punjabis from every part of the state to participate in this celebration with their families.”

He said, “The renowned play Gagan Damama Bajio will be staged during the programme, while prominent Punjabi artists including Ranjit Bawa and Kulwinder Billa, along with prominent dhadi jathas, will perform. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, ministers, MLAs and people from across Punjab will participate in this celebration.”

Remembering the martyrs associated with Punjab’s revolutionary legacy, he said, “Along with Shaheed Bhagat Singh, we will remember Shaheed Sukhdev, who belonged to Ludhiana, and Shaheed Rajguru. Their sacrifices are an inseparable part of our history, and through this programme we want to ensure that the younger generation remains connected with their legacy.”

Appealing to families and young people to attend the event, Baltej Pannu said, “I appeal to every Punjabi to come to the PAU ground with their family and become part of this celebration. Our younger generation must know our history, understand the sacrifices of our martyrs and take pride in the rich cultural heritage of Punjab.”

He particularly appealed to turbaned Punjabis to participate in the celebration wearing yellow turbans, saying, “I especially invite all those who wear turbans to come wearing yellow turbans and become part of this historic celebration. Let us collectively celebrate the spirit, identity and heritage of Punjab.”

Baltej Pannu said the programme would showcase Punjab’s distinctive musical and cultural identity, adding, “Punjabi music has earned recognition not only in Bollywood but across the world. Through ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’, we want to showcase the many colours of Punjab’s music, culture and traditions.”

He said, “We want to bring back the spirit of Rangla Punjab, a Punjab that sings, dances, celebrates its culture and takes pride in its heritage. Punjab has a glorious cultural identity and our young generation must remain connected with it.”

Referring to the growing participation of young people in sports and public events, Baltej Pannu said, “The large participation of Punjab’s youth in recent marathons is a reflection of the changing environment in the state. Around 25,000 young men and women participated in the marathon in Bathinda. This is the answer to those who tried to portray Punjab and its youth through the negative image of ‘Udta Punjab’.”

He said the Bhagwant Mann government had been creating positive opportunities for young people since 2022, stating, “Since 2022, the Bhagwant Singh Mann government has continuously worked to provide our younger generation with positive alternatives through sports and other activities. We want our youth to be seen on playgrounds, in sports events and in constructive activities.”

Highlighting sports infrastructure, the AAP Punjab Media In-charge said, “The government has developed 3,100 sports grounds across Punjab, of which around 750 have already been completed, while work on the remaining grounds is progressing. Initiatives such as Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan and youth runs are providing our young people with platforms to participate in sports and showcase their talent.”

He also welcomed the hosting of an international hockey tournament in Punjab, saying, “Punjab has produced some of the greatest players in the history of Indian hockey, but the state had not previously hosted such an international tournament. The fact that an international hockey tournament will now be held in Jalandhar and Mohali next month is a significant development for Punjab.”

Highlighting the state government’s work in agriculture and water management, Baltej Pannu said, “When the Bhagwant Singh Mann government took office, canal-water utilisation in Punjab was around 22%. Today, it has increased to over 88%. Greater utilisation of canal water is helping Punjab conserve its precious groundwater, and groundwater levels have also improved at several places.”

He said, “The Bhagwant Mann government is working to reduce the financial burden on ordinary families. The provision of 600 units of free electricity every two months has provided relief to families who earlier struggled to pay their electricity bills.”

Highlighting the government’s healthcare initiatives, Baltej Pannu said, “Through the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, families are receiving cashless healthcare coverage of up to ₹10 lakh. Such initiatives are helping ordinary families avoid the heavy financial burden that medical treatment can place on them.”

He also highlighted the work of the Sadak Surakhya Force, saying, “The Sadak Surakhya Force has significantly strengthened the response to road accidents. Its quick response helps accident victims receive timely assistance and is contributing to efforts to control fatalities on Punjab’s roads.”

Baltej Pannu said Punjab was witnessing renewed participation in sports, culture and public activities, adding, “Today, our young people are increasingly being seen on playgrounds, participating in marathons and joining other constructive activities. This is the Punjab we want to see, a Punjab that celebrates its culture, remembers its martyrs and gives its youth positive opportunities.”

Making a final appeal to Punjabis, he said, “I appeal to people from across Punjab to reach the PAU ground in Ludhiana on September 28 at 3 PM with their families. Let us come together to remember Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev and Shaheed Rajguru and celebrate the culture, music, traditions and spirit that have given Punjab its distinct identity.”

Baltej Pannu appealed, “Let us make ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ a grand celebration of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s legacy and the indomitable spirit of Punjab.”

Ashutosh Ranka Detained in Assam Ahead of CJP Meet; Party Alleges Himanta Sarma Government Blocked Event

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and several party workers were detained by Assam Police on Sunday ahead of a scheduled volunteers’ meeting in Guwahati, according to the organisation. The reported detentions triggered a political row, with Ranka alleging that the Assam government was attempting to prevent the group from raising questions about issues in the state.

CJP Alleges Road Was Blocked Ahead of Meeting

The CJP said its regional volunteers’ meeting was scheduled to bring together supporters from Assam and other parts of the Northeast. According to the organisation, access to the meeting venue was blocked and several volunteers were detained before the programme could take place.

Ranka posted videos on social media showing himself inside a police vehicle while being taken away. The CJP also alleged that its lawyers were initially unable to meet the detained members.

Ashutosh Ranka Targets Himanta Biswa Sarma

Before his detention, Ranka alleged that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was attempting to stop the CJP from highlighting issues concerning government schools, land and other matters in Assam.

Ranka also alleged that the government was concerned about the organisation’s planned outreach activities in the state. These allegations were made by Ranka and have not been independently established.

CJP Raises Questions Over Detentions

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised the reported police action and demanded the release of Ranka and other members. He also alleged that the detainees had not been informed of the grounds for their detention and said he would travel to Assam if they were not released.

The organisation also claimed that more than 30 workers were detained, although different reports have cited varying numbers.

Mohan Yadav Uses Pickaxe to Demolish Part of Ancestral Home for Simhastha 2028 Preparations in Ujjain

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday personally used a pickaxe to begin the demolition of a portion of his ancestral house in Ujjain as part of road-widening work ahead of Simhastha 2028. A section of the family property falls within the proposed alignment of the road being expanded for the major religious gathering.

Part of Ancestral House Affected by Road Widening

The ancestral house, built by Yadav’s grandfather Ramchandra Yadav in 1974, is located along a road that is being widened ahead of Simhastha 2028. Around 2.3 metres of the house falls within the proposed road alignment.

Yadav personally started the removal of the affected portion of the structure. His sister, Kalawati Yadav, whose house is also affected by the project, has said that the family is willing to give up the portion required for the road expansion.

₹9.80 Crore Road-Widening Project

The road project covers around 730 metres, extending from Khajurwali Masjid through Abdalpura and the Jiwajiganj police station area to Ganesh Chowk. The existing road is being widened to 15 metres, with the state government sanctioning around ₹9.80 crore for the project.

According to the report, the Ujjain Municipal Corporation has identified 272 buildings that will be affected by the widening work.

Mohan Yadav Highlights Public Participation

After initiating the demolition, Mohan Yadav said residents of Ujjain had voluntarily removed portions of their properties to facilitate development work ahead of Simhastha.

He described the participation of residents as an example of cooperation for the city’s preparations. Yadav also said that people from different communities had contributed to the development exercise, including by moving portions of places of worship where required.

Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Protsahan Yojana: Hemant Soren Government to Provide ₹5,000 Assistance to Eligible Skilled Unemployed Citizens

The Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Protsahan Yojana provides financial assistance to eligible skilled unemployed citizens of the state. The scheme was introduced in the 2020-21 financial year with the objective of providing temporary financial support to qualified unemployed people while they look for employment.

The scheme is associated with the Department of Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development, Government of Jharkhand. The state government had also made provisions for financial assistance to unemployed youth in its 2020-21 budget.

Hemant Soren: ₹5,000 Financial Assistance Under the Scheme

Under the Mukhyamantri Protsahan Yojana, eligible skilled unemployed applicants are provided ₹5,000 in financial assistance.

According to the scheme details, the assistance is intended to continue until the beneficiary gets employment, subject to the applicable scheme conditions.

Additional Assistance for Specific Categories

The scheme provides 50% additional assistance for certain categories of beneficiaries, including:

  • Widows and deserted women
  • Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs)
  • Persons with disabilities

This provision increases the assistance available to eligible beneficiaries belonging to these categories.
