The announcement comes as the Punjab Government continues to highlight its welfare initiatives aimed at supporting women and economically weaker sections. Further details regarding the disbursement process are expected to be communicated to eligible beneficiaries through official channels.

The AAP’s statement reflects the party’s position regarding the scheme and its intended benefits. The government is expected to provide additional information as the implementation progresses.

Ketan Agarwal Murder: Forensic Experts In Play! Gait Analysis Of Chetan Chaudhary On Cards, What Is It & How Can It Help Investigators?

Ketan- Agarwal- Murder
Google

The investigation into the Ketan Agarwal murder case is reportedly entering a more technical phase, with forensic experts now being considered to analyze key digital and video evidence.

What Is Gait Analysis?

Gait analysis is the study of how a person walks. Every individual has a slightly different walking pattern, influenced by their body structure, posture, speed, and the movement of their arms and legs. These subtle differences can sometimes be used like a biometric signature, similar to fingerprints or facial recognition. In forensic investigations, gait analysis is used by examining CCTV footage or video recordings to compare a suspect’s walking style with known reference footage.

How Does Gait Analysis Work?

Forensic experts typically follow a structured approach:

  • Video Collection: CCTV or mobile footage showing the suspect walking is collected.
  • Frame-by-Frame Study: Analysts break down movement patterns frame by frame.
  • Movement Mapping: Key features like stride length, arm swing, posture, and foot placement are studied.
  • Comparison: The suspected individual’s gait is compared with verified footage of the person in question.
  • Expert Opinion: A forensic report is prepared based on similarities or differences observed.

Why Is It Being Considered in This Case?

In the Ketan Agarwal murder investigation, reports suggest that CCTV footage may have captured an individual believed to be Chetan Chaudhary near key locations connected to the incident. However, due to unclear visuals or limited facial visibility, investigators may rely on gait analysis to strengthen identification.

This technique is especially useful when:

  • The face is partially hidden or blurred
  • The suspect is captured from a distance
  • Clothing or disguises make facial recognition unreliable

How Reliable Is Gait Analysis?

Gait analysis is considered a supporting forensic tool, not standalone proof. Courts and investigators generally use it along with other evidence such as:

  • CCTV footage
  • Call records
  • Digital footprints
  • Eyewitness statements

WhatsApp
Google

WhatsApp is working on a new username feature that may let users chat without sharing phone numbers. It aims to improve privacy, reduce spam, and make communication safer, especially in groups and professional settings.

A Big Step Towards Better Privacy

For years, WhatsApp has required users to share their mobile numbers to start a conversation. While the system has been simple and effective, it has also raised privacy concerns, especially when chatting with strangers, joining communities, or interacting in professional settings. The upcoming username feature aims to change that.

How Will Usernames Work?

According to reports, every WhatsApp user will be able to choose a unique username that follows specific guidelines. Usernames cannot begin with “www.”, end with a domain such as “.com,” or contain invalid characters. Once selected, the username will become your public identity on WhatsApp while keeping your phone number private. Whenever someone starts a chat using your username, they will see your chosen handle instead of your mobile number

What Do You Stand To Gain?

The new feature brings several advantages for everyday users:

  • Better Privacy: Your phone number stays hidden when chatting with new people.
  • Greater Security: Less exposure of personal contact information reduces the risk of spam and misuse.
  • Professional Networking: Freelancers, business owners, and creators can connect with clients without revealing personal numbers.
  • Safer Online Communities: Ideal for group chats, public communities, and online marketplaces where sharing a phone number may not be necessary.
  • A Modern Messaging Experience: Similar to platforms like Telegram, Signal, and Instagram, usernames make connecting easier and more flexible.

Who Will Benefit the Most?

The feature is expected to be especially useful for entrepreneurs, influencers, students, job seekers, customer support teams, and anyone who frequently communicates with people outside their personal contact list.

Pakistan’s Fresh Warning Over Water

Pakistan has once again shown its concern regarding the Indus Waters Treaty when Minister Musadik Malik has said that any attempt to reduce the water supply to Pakistan will bring serious implications for India. This warning emerges at a time when there is increasing uncertainty about the treaty because India has put it on hold after the Pahalgam terror attack.

The Importance Of The Indus Waters Treaty

Since the time the Indus Waters Treaty came into effect, the distribution of the Indus rivers among India and Pakistan has been regulated by it for over six decades now. As Pakistan relies extensively on these rivers for purposes of agriculture, consumption of water, and production of hydropower, it becomes important for the country.

Hyped Warning Or Serious Threat?

It is the boldness of Musadik Malik’s statement that has made it grab the attention of many people around the world. But a lot of observers have found the statement more political in nature than practical.

What Lies Ahead?

Indus Water Treaty:The Indus Waters Treaty has survived wars, political crises, and decades of hostility between the two neighbors. However, the latest exchange of sharp statements highlights how water has become intertwined with diplomacy, security, and regional politics. As both nations continue to stand by their respective positions, the future of the treaty remains uncertain.

US Iran War: Donald Trump Announces Talks, Tehran Squarely Rejects, Oil Prices Tumble In Anticipation, Will Indians Get The Benefit?

US- Iran- War

US Iran War: The statement made by Donald Trump that the United States was ready to engage in talks with Iran brought hope of resolving tensions in the Middle East.

Trump’s Statement Attracts Global Attention

A sudden statement made by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, that the United States will soon engage in talks with Iran caught the attention of the global market.

Iran Refuses The Statement

The Iranian government was quick to act on this statement from Trump and denied that any negotiations were being made in line with the claims made by the US government. This discrepancy in claims clearly shows how the ties between the two nations are not very strong.

What Caused the Oil Price Reduction?

Despite the denial made by the Iranian government regarding the negotiations, oil prices went down owing to the claims made by the US president. This is because traders felt that the success of the negotiations meant fewer chances of war and thus a steady oil supply.

Implications For India

Nearly 85% of India’s crude oil needs are met through imports. Hence, the prices of crude oil affect the Indian economy significantly.

Can Prices of Petrol & Diesel Be Reduced?

The reduction in crude oil prices will not necessarily result in reduced prices of petrol and diesel in India. This is because prices of fuels in India are also affected by government taxes, the cost of refining the fuel transportation costs, and the exchange rate.

Will Indians get the benefit?

US Iran War: Yes, Indians could benefit if global crude oil prices remain low for a sustained period. Since India imports most of its crude oil, cheaper oil can reduce the country’s import bill, help control inflation, and lower transportation costs. However, petrol and diesel prices may not fall immediately, as they also depend on government taxes, refining costs, and other domestic factors.

Our Govt Will Lay 7,000 Km of New Pipelines to Ensure Canal Water Reaches Every Farm: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann

CM Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday announced that his government will lay another 7,000 kilometres of pipelines by the end of this year to ensure canal water reaches every farm across Punjab. Highlighting that 14,000 kilometres of pipelines, equivalent to the distance from Canada to Moga, have already been laid over the last four years, he said the government is also creating water recharge points to raise the groundwater level. During a Lok Milni programme in Bhallur, Moga, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said his government has ensured canal water reaches nearly 80% of agricultural land while previous governments neglected farmers.

The Chief Minister also asserted that parties rejected by the people in the 2022 Assembly elections have united against him because they cannot match his government’s work, adding that the people of Punjab will never allow those who looted the state during their rule to return to power.

Addressing a sea of people during the Lok Milni, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Punjab Government has laid 14,000 kilometres of pipes and watercourses across the state to facilitate the farmers of Punjab in every nook and corner. So far, 21,000 cusecs of water has been released in these pipelines and watercourses to benefit the farmers in a big way by catering to their irrigation needs. Recharge points have been kept in the canals and rivers so that the water level is enhanced, and the water level has increased by two to four metres.”

Launching a scathing attack on the Akalis over irrigation and sacrilege, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Akalis, especially the Badals, never knew what canal water meant for a common farmer as watercourses ended in their fields only. They were never sincere in making such a law when they were in power. The truth is that their intentions were flawed. The Akalis allowed sacrilege incidents to take place for their political gains. The Akali Dal has been reduced to the party of sisters-in-law as one sister-in-law is an MP and the other is an MLA in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.”

Taking a jibe at Sukhbir Badal, He said, “Sukhbir Badal is still in trauma due to the debacle in 2022 and is living in a fool’s paradise, which is reflected in his statements. The former Deputy Chief Minister has recently said that he has directed all his MLAs not to attend the Vidhan Sabha, forgetting that there is only one MLA left of the Akali Dal, who is also his relative. The Akalis, Congress and BJP know that they cannot compete with me politically, so they have ganged up to defame me on religious issues through fake videos.”

He further added, “The Akali leaders mercilessly looted the state and committed numerous and unpardonable atrocities on the common man during their long and tyrannical rule. The Akalis bruised the psyche of Punjabis emotionally and patronised several mafias in the state to ruin Punjab. The Akali leadership can never be forgiven as it was responsible for the genocide of several generations of the state because the drug trade was patronised by them and bloomed during their long era of misrule. The Akalis used their official vehicles to supply ‘Chitta’ drugs across the state and laid pyres of our youth.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “The traditional political parties continuously try to defame me through one accusation or another. Now the SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee) has ordered to put up posters outside gurdwaras calling for my boycott. However, why were such posters not put up against the Akali Dal or Sukhbir Badal when they admitted responsibility for incidents of sacrilege? On December 2, before Sri Akal Takht Sahib, they acknowledged their mistakes, admitted wrongdoing, accepted responsibility for the firing incidents and admitted that orders were given against the sangat. Did anyone put up posters outside gurdwaras calling for their boycott?”

Referring to the public response he receives across Punjab, He affirmed, “The sangat is wise and the people are supreme. These individuals are acting out of arrogance because they have no real issue left to raise against me. Whenever I visit villages, community gatherings and public meetings, huge crowds gather. The opposition cannot tolerate these crowds because they themselves cannot attract such public support. Baffled over this, the traditional parties are stooping too low by levelling baseless allegations against me, which will not be tolerated by the people.”

Taking potshots at Congress party to task, the Chief Minister said, “The Congress party is on its deathbed and will be finished very soon as it has no vision for the people and the state. Their only aim is to plunder the wealth of Punjab by assuming power, but their dreams will never get fulfilled. The Congress party is a divided house that will collapse due to its infighting. It is a pity that the top Congress leaders who come to unite these leaders squabbling for power are not even aware of how to pronounce their names.”

Highlighting the government’s people-centric governance model, the Chief Minister said, “The AAP government is optimally utilising every single penny of the state exchequer for the well-being of the people of the state. More than 90% of households in the state are getting free power. Even the farmers are today getting power in the daytime, which has been unprecedented. The tax money of the people belongs to the state, and we are judiciously spending it on the welfare of the people. People’s money is coming back to the people through development, schools, hospitals and roads.”

Listing the major achievements of his government, the Chief Minister said, “The state government is now working for the people and has provided free electricity to households, jobs to over 68,000 youth without corruption, improved roads, closed toll plazas saving ₹70 lakh daily, imparted quality education and healthcare, built infrastructure besides several other key initiatives. The state government is working tirelessly for the development of villages, for which grants are being given. To wean away the youth from the menace of drugs, 3,100 sports stadiums are being constructed in the state.”

Highlighting the state’s healthcare reforms, the Chief Minister said, “In order to provide comprehensive healthcare to the people, the state government has launched the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, the first-of-its-kind scheme in the country that provides cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh for every resident family in Punjab. It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that Punjab is the first Indian state to offer such comprehensive healthcare coverage, which has significantly eased the financial burden on the public while ensuring quality health services. This historic move is aimed at providing universal healthcare to all the families of the state. People have so far availed free treatment worth more than ₹650 crore.”

Speaking about the Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, the Chief Minister further said, “From July 1, women beneficiaries above the age of 18 years will get notifications on their mobile phones about the financial assistance of ₹1,000 in the case every woman of Punjab and ₹1,500 in the case of SC women. Funds will be directly transferred to their bank accounts, and women already receiving social security pensions will also be eligible. Around 97% of women in Punjab are expected to benefit, and the state government has allotted ₹9,300 crore in the Budget.”

Underscoring the success of the anti-drug campaign, the Chief Minister said, “Yudh Nashean Virudh has been pivotal in breaking the backbone of the drug menace, and this curse can be wiped out from the state with the support of the people. The supply line of drugs has already been snapped, and the big fish involved in this heinous crime have been put behind bars. The momentum of this campaign has to be maintained. The need of the hour is to intensify this campaign further, for which people must come forward.”

Highlighting the transformation of Punjab’s education sector, the Chief Minister said, “After assuming charge of office, I laid special focus on the progress and prosperity of the state, especially the education sector. Previous regimes converted schools across the state into merely Mid-Day Meal Centres, but now these schools have been transformed into educational hubs. The state government is working on a mission to boost education in the state and ensure access to quality education for poor students.”

Referring to Punjab’s latest achievement in school education, the Chief Minister said, “Due to the strenuous efforts of the state government, Punjab has surpassed Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi to secure the number one position in primary and middle-school education. The state government has upgraded primary and middle-school education, strengthened the system, introduced smart classrooms and provided advanced training to teachers.”

“As a result of these efforts, Punjab is excelling in the school education sector. NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog, one of the Government of India’s premier institutions, has released new figures showing that Punjab has surpassed Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi to secure the number one position in primary and middle-school education,” he concluded.

Sharing a few snippets from the Lok Milni, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated on X: “Heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined the Lok Milni at Bhallur. Despite the scorching heat, every step you took to be there means a great deal to me. A cheque of ₹51 lakh was handed over today for the development of the village. Today, 90% of households in Punjab have zero electricity bills, while the state has emerged as Number One in free healthcare and education. We have ensured that 80% of farmers now receive canal water, and in the coming days, every field in Bhallur will be connected to a canal outlet.”

“Properties of drug smugglers have been confiscated, and our campaign against the drug menace will continue with full force. The overwhelming love and support you showed today makes it clear that you are ready to bid a permanent farewell to the traditional political leaders. Let us all come together to make Punjab even more prosperous and take it to new heights of progress,” the post concluded.

Harpal Singh Cheema

In a spirit of humility and devotion, Punjab’s Sikh MLAs and Ministers, on Monday, appeared barefoot before Sri Akal Takht Sahib after paying obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar. Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema reiterated their profound reverence for the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs and said the Punjab Government would give due consideration to the suggestions received while fully upholding the dignity and sanctity of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Addressing the media after paying obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib and appearing before Sri Akal Takht Sahib along with Cabinet Ministers and MLAs, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that he had been blessed with the opportunity to seek the blessings of Guru Ram Das Ji and to participate in a meaningful discussion with the respected Jathedar Sahib. “I was fortunate to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib and, prior to that, to appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib following an invitation from the Jathedar Sahib. Along with Punjab Cabinet Ministers and MLAs, we had a long, meaningful and constructive discussion with the respected Jathedar Sahib. I pray that Guru Sahib continues to shower His blessings upon all of us,” he said.

Emphasising the immense respect commanded by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said, “Sri Akal Takht Sahib is a sacred institution that holds immense reverence in the hearts of the people of Punjab as well as the Punjab Government. We have the highest respect for the Jathedar Sahib, this institution, the Sikh Panth and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.”

He said that, keeping in view the dignity and sanctity of the institution, it would not be appropriate to disclose the details of the discussions held. “The matters discussed at Sri Akal Takht Sahib will be conveyed to the government for due consideration. However, respecting the maryada and dignity of this sacred institution, it would not be appropriate to go into the details of the discussions,” he added.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Jathedar Sahib of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has granted the Punjab Government one month’s time to examine the proposed amendments and suggestions.

He said that the proposed amendments and recommendations would be formally communicated to all through the Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. “Once the proposed amendments are received from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the government will examine them in detail and, after due deliberation, take an appropriate decision,” he said.

Qadian Halqa to Get Sub-Division Status Soon; People Will Get All Govt Services Under One Roof: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann

Punjab news

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday announced that the Qadian Halqa (constituency) will be upgraded to a Sub-Division, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the people and ensuring that all key government services are available under one roof through a modern administrative complex. During a special public programme in Qadian, he also called out the Akali leadership, saying they intimidated people to secure votes and looted Punjab for years.

Calling upon Punjabis to unite against “thieves, looters and thugs,” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann urged people to wield the ‘Jhaadu’ decisively in the 2027 elections so that the Opposition never gets another opportunity to pollute the state. The Chief Minister also assured farmers that the pending sugarcane dues of Kiri Sugar Mill would be cleared soon, highlighted his government’s pro-people initiatives, including zero electricity bills for 90% of households and ₹10 lakh cashless health cover for 47 lakh families, and appealed to people to join hands in rebuilding a vibrant and prosperous Rangla Punjab.

Sharing a few snippets from this programme, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated on X: “Heartfelt thanks to the people of the brave land of Majha and the Qadian constituency for the overwhelming love and affection. Fulfilling a long-pending demand of the people, I have announced that Qadian will now be made a Sub-Division. The SDM, DSP, and ADC offices will function from the same modern building, putting an end to the inconvenience faced by people in accessing government services. To accelerate the constituency’s development, Gurikbal Singh Mahal has been appointed as the new Sevadar.”

“The era of exploitation by traditional political leaders is now over. Today, 90% of households in Punjab have zero electricity bills, and 47 lakh families have already received ₹10 lakh cashless health treatment cards. Let us all come together to rebuild a vibrant and prosperous Punjab,” the post concluded.

Addressing a massive gathering, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “The huge gathering here reflects that the people of Qadian are eagerly waiting to bring about a change and free this constituency from a family that has ruled it for decades. Successive governments ignored the development of Punjab’s border region, but our government has made every possible effort to ensure its progress. The people living along the border are true patriots who have always stood firmly with the nation, and our government is fully committed to their welfare.”

The Chief Minister said, “The smugglers who have long represented this Assembly segment have ruined generations of Punjab. The people must teach them a fitting lesson in the forthcoming Assembly elections.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “We grew up eating biscuits made in neighbourhood bakeries, whereas these leaders, educated in elite convent schools in the hills, consumed gold biscuits smuggled by their fathers. They have neither any ideology nor any commitment to public service. Their only objective has always been to capture power. The time has come for the people to understand the difference between bakery biscuits and gold biscuits.”

He said, “These royal leaders have nothing in common with ordinary Punjabis. Their cars, clothes and lifestyle are completely different from ours. Those who represented this area in the Vidhan Sabha, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha never worked for its development. Instead, they imposed tolls on roads and burdened the people. Even their own house stands divided, with flags of different political parties flying over it.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “My name has become a nightmare for the leaders of the traditional parties because I have exposed their misdeeds before the people. They cannot digest the fact that the son of a common man is successfully governing Punjab. The people have already rejected these leaders because they always cared more about their families than Punjab and Punjabis.”

Announcing that Qadian would soon be made a Sub-Division, the Chief Minister said, “All formalities will be completed shortly so that people no longer have to wait for their work. The Shiromani Akali Dal is a sinking ship, and even its sensible leaders are leaving the party in the interest of the people. For years, people voted for the Akalis believing they represented the sacred Takdi of the great Gurus, but they looted the people and took an illegal share from every flourishing business.”

The Chief Minister said, “The Akalis, Congress and BJP know they cannot compete with me politically. That is why they have joined hands to defame me on religious issues through fake videos. The Akali leadership mercilessly looted Punjab and committed countless unforgivable excesses against the common people. They patronised mafias that devastated the state and can never be forgiven for encouraging the drug trade, which destroyed generations of Punjab during their long tenure in power.”

The Chief Minister said, “Our government is constructing more than 43,000 kilometres of link roads across Punjab, and contractors have been made responsible for their maintenance. We are ensuring that every single penny from the state exchequer is utilised judiciously for the welfare of the people and the overall development of Punjab.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Today, more than 90% of households in Punjab are receiving free electricity. For the first time, farmers are also getting uninterrupted power supply during the daytime, which was once considered impossible.”

The Chief Minister said, “The tax money collected from the people belongs to them, and our government is spending it honestly on their welfare. Every rupee is being invested in development, better schools, quality healthcare, improved roads and public infrastructure. The people’s money is now reaching the people instead of filling the pockets of a few.”

Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Our government has provided free electricity to households, given government jobs to more than 68,000 youth without any corruption, improved the road network, closed toll plazas saving people nearly ₹70 lakh every day, strengthened education and healthcare, built modern infrastructure and taken several other historic initiatives for the welfare of Punjab.”

The Chief Minister said, “When our government assumed office, only 22% of canal water was being utilised for irrigation in the state. Today, that figure has increased to more than 80%, ensuring greater water availability for farmers while reducing dependence on groundwater.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Our government is working tirelessly for the development of villages, and grants are being released to ensure that every village witnesses all-round progress.”

The Chief Minister said, “To steer our youth away from the menace of drugs, the Punjab Government will dedicate 3,100 newly built stadiums across the state by July 15. Promoting sports is one of the strongest weapons in our fight against drugs because it channels the limitless energy of our youth towards excellence and nation-building.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Our government has also launched a massive campaign to rejuvenate village ponds across the state. An elaborate plan has already been prepared to clean these ponds, treat the water and utilise it for agricultural purposes. This initiative will help reduce the pressure on rapidly depleting groundwater while strengthening sustainable irrigation across Punjab.”

Saving Punjab’s Youth Is Our Highest Priority; CM Bhagwant Singh Mann Directs DCs & SSPs to Further Intensify Yudh Nashean Virudh

Expressing satisfaction over the success of the Punjab’s ongoing ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday directed Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to further intensify the Yudh Nashean Virudh campaign until Punjab is completely freed from the scourge of drugs.

Chairing a virtual review meeting to assess the functioning of the Village Defence Committees (VDCs), the Chief Minister asserted that the campaign has broken the backbone of the drug menace by snapping supply lines and putting major drug smugglers behind bars. Stressing that there can be no let-up in the drive, he called for stronger grassroots action, greater public participation and confidence-building measures in villages to sustain the momentum and secure a decisive victory against drugs.

Sharing a few snippets from this meeting, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated on X: “Today, from the Lake View Guest House in Bathinda, I chaired an important review meeting through video conference with all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) as part of the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign. Strict directions have been issued to all officers to intensify ground-level action for the complete eradication of drugs. Action against drug traffickers is continuing relentlessly under our Zero Tolerance policy. Saving Punjab’s youth is our highest priority. Let us all unite to make Punjab drug-free and take the state to new heights of progress.”

During this, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “The supply line of drugs has already been snapped and the big fish involved in this heinous crime have been put behind bars. However, the momentum of this campaign has to be maintained and the need of the hour is to intensify it further until Punjab is completely free from drugs.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the members of the Village Defence Committees have been performing their responsibilities effectively and have lodged more than 13,000 complaints against drug smugglers during the last three months alone. “In districts where the Village Defence Committees are comparatively less active, they should be encouraged to actively participate in this mission of public importance. Meetings of Village Defence Committees must be organised every month in every district and I will personally review their performance in monthly state-level meetings,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that drug abuse is a global phenomenon, but nowhere in the world has such a determined and vigorous campaign been launched against it. “In an unprecedented initiative, a 1.50 lakh-strong force of Village Defence Committee members has been constituted to make Punjab drug-free. Public participation is essential because the fight against drugs has to become a mass movement. Drug addiction is a social problem and people’s involvement is equally important for ensuring the sustainability of this campaign,” he added.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann asked the DCs and SSPs to secure wholehearted support and cooperation from every section of society to ensure that no drugs are sold in their respective areas and every drug victim is brought out of addiction. “As a confidence-building measure, police teams should regularly visit villages and interact with residents to understand the ground situation. The identity of Village Defence Committee members or any citizen providing information about drug smugglers must remain strictly confidential,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has concentrated on dismantling the supply chain of drugs by arresting drug peddlers and sending them behind bars. “As the noose has tightened around drug smugglers, the supply line has been disrupted, resulting in a larger number of victims approaching de-addiction and rehabilitation centres. Therefore, the government has established an extensive network of de-addiction and rehabilitation centres to detoxify addicts and enable them to lead lives of dignity and self-respect,” he said.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann further said that under the ongoing Yudh Nahean Virudh, the capacity of existing de-addiction and rehabilitation centres has been substantially enhanced. “Several new centres have been established and the quality of services and overall environment at existing centres has been significantly improved, including the provision of air conditioning. The number of beds in government-managed de-addiction and rehabilitation centres has been increased from 1,500 to 5,000,” he added.

The Chief Minister said that the Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) centres have also been upgraded and uninterrupted availability of essential medicines has been ensured. “New OOAT centres have been established wherever required, increasing their total number from 529 to 565. Officers must personally ensure adequate availability of medicines, consumables and beds at all OOAT and de-addiction centres under their jurisdiction,” he said.

Highlighting the Soorma initiative, CM bBhagwant Singh Mann said that the unique programme recognises individuals who have successfully overcome drug addiction and remained sober for more than two years. “These Soormas will now work alongside the government as Ambassadors of Recovery to inspire others to overcome addiction and help make Punjab completely drug-free,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that this initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of the state government to eradicate drug abuse, which has plagued Punjab for several years. “These individuals represent the true spirit of Yudh Nahean Virudh. Their hard work, resilience and determination show the path towards a Rangla Punjab. They are our ambassadors of hope, and the government will continue investing in de-addiction centres, skill development and efforts to eliminate the stigma associated with addiction so that every recovering individual can rebuild a life of dignity and secure better livelihood opportunities,” he added.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is a historic moment as the state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and launched a decisive crusade against the menace. “Punjab Police has a glorious history of successfully tackling challenging law and order situations. I am confident that the force will uphold this proud tradition and make Punjab completely drug-free with the active support and cooperation of the people. This is the need of the hour to protect future generations from the scourge of drugs,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that the war against drugs can only be won through meticulous planning and effective execution at the micro level, for which every officer has to play a proactive role. “The state government is making concerted efforts to channelise the boundless energy of Punjab’s youth in a positive direction. This is an extraordinary battle and it requires innovative thinking and out-of-the-box initiatives from the government as well as every officer associated with this mission,” he added.
