US Iran War: President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and pause regional fighting within seven days, and has told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November congressional midterms, the Wall Street Journal reported on September 25, 2026, citing unnamed US officials.

What Was In Iran’s Proposal

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters at UN headquarters in New York that Tehran had conveyed “a concrete seven-day plan” to Washington through Qatari mediators. Under the proposal, the US would lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports, waive oil export sanctions, and observe a ceasefire extending to Lebanon. In return, Iran pledged to restore normal maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz by day six and reopen direct nuclear talks by day seven. “If there is seriousness on the US side to come to a deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, everything is now prepared,” Araghchi said.

Trump’s Response

Despite a US official telling Reuters that Washington and Tehran were having “positive and constructive discussions” through mediators, Trump was reportedly privately skeptical of the proposal and turned it down. According to the WSJ report, he has signalled to aides that military operations are likely to resume shortly after the November midterms, rather than pursuing an immediate truce.

Exercising its Right of Reply, First Secretary Petal Gahlot dismissed Sharif’s claims as “falsehoods” and “deceit,” warning of consequences for continued terrorism. She described Pakistan as a regime “of the army, by the army, and for the army,” citing its 27th Constitutional Amendment granting lifelong immunity to Army Chief Asim Munir.

“We heard some hypocritical homilies about democratic rights and human values from a regime whose capital at this very moment is being fortified against its own people,” Gahlot said.

On Kashmir And Terrorism

Gahlot turned the Kashmir remarks back on Pakistan: “Ask the people of Rawalakot about the wanton killings, the brutal violence and the denial of basic rights.” She warned, “Our right to defend ourselves against terrorism will be exercised. And continued terrorism by Pakistan will have consequences.”

A three-day nationwide bank strike has been announced from September 28 to 30, and there may be losses in banking services at branches. 

Banks prepare alternative arrangements

In the event of the strike, the Finance Ministry has directed the public sector banks and the regional rural banks (RRB) to draw up contingency measures that would ensure the sustenance of critical banking services. The banks have been directed to ensure availability of cash at ATMs/business correspondents’ outlets and reduce the crowd at branches by using alternative channels. SBI, PNB, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, and other pubic sector banks have issued advisories on social media, urging their customers to complete the branch-dependent transactions before the strike.

During the disruption, customers who require availing regular banking services will be able to access the facility through internet banking, mobile banking, UPI, ATMs, and other digital channels. Customers are advised to use ATMs, coin/currency deposit & withdrawal machines, customer service points, YONO, and digital banking channels for transactions.

Customers have time to take some precautions before September 28. The women wrestlers sought a criminal revision of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwini Panwar’s judgment dated August 3, 2026. In this petition, they contend that acquittal had no basis in the law and that the entire weight of evidence had been ignored in the judgment. It also addresses the accusations made by the wrestlers over “dependency on stereotyped assumptions about how victims of sexual harassment can be expected to react”. The wrestlers maintain that delay in lodging the complaint, the working relationships with those against whom they had made allegations, and variations in their recollection of events should not necessarily have been played up as reasons to cast aspersions on their claims.

What did the trial court decide?

The trial court acquitted Singh and Tomar in August after analyzing the evidence produced in the trial. Media reports on the verdict stated that the court found discrepancies in certain information supplied by the complainants and held that the prosecution had failed to prove the case to the criminal standard of proof.

What happens next?

The case is likely to be taken up on September 26 before Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh at the Rouse Avenue Court, who will decide on the wrestlers’ plea challenging the acquittal order by the trial court. What is new in the latest turn of events is that the matter is now being fought in the next legal forum. The proceedings will decide how the court will evaluate the basis of the wrestlers ‘ appeal against the August judgment, particularly their challenge to the findings of fact.

The exercise, which has been fiercely condemned by Congress, has been questioned by all party leaders over the question of implementation and when some of the qualifying voters are allegedly removed from the electoral rolls. The party has labeled the process as ‘arbitrary’ and ‘random.’ The debate has now escalated to the Supreme Court, where the Election Commission has been interrogated over certain facets of the SIR method.

CJP issues a 48-hour ultimatum

While others have been playing it safe, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been making a different kind of noise. Speaking to Catch, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said, “We will tell him to resign first and foremost, and we have asked the CEC to resign within 48 hours.” Otherwise, we will start a nationwide agitation and an indefinite strike in Delhi. Thus, SIR is playing out on multiple planes simultaneously. 

The issue now moves towards courts and protests

Gyanesh Kumar: The SIR controversy is therefore developing on several fronts at once. Political parties are raising questions over the electoral-roll revision; the Supreme Court is examining specific aspects of the process, while CJP has announced further street-level mobilization.

Punjab is fast emerging as a major industrial hub and preferred investment destination, with the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government attracting a massive ₹1.89 lakh crore in investments over the last four years, generating employment potential for 6.31 lakh youth and driving industrial growth beyond traditional centres. With Mohali leading new investment proposals at ₹9,478 crore, followed by Ludhiana at ₹4,968 crore, the expanding investment footprint reflects growing investor confidence while opening new avenues for jobs, entrepreneurship and higher incomes across Punjab.

Reviewing the progress of the Industries Department here today, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The remarkable scale of investment reflects the growing confidence of domestic and global investors in Punjab’s industrial ecosystem. Our government has consistently worked to create a congenial, transparent and investor-friendly business environment, backed by improved infrastructure, responsive governance and streamlined approvals.”

The Chief Minister said, “Punjab’s traditional strengths in agriculture, manufacturing, engineering, textiles and food processing, coupled with our emerging capabilities in technology, renewable energy, automobiles and modern manufacturing, are providing a strong foundation for the next phase of industrial growth.”

He pointed out, “Several leading national and international companies, including Tata Steel, JSW Steel, AICHI Steels, Vardhman, Nestlé, Hindustan Lever, Cargill, De Heus, HMEL, Santhan Textiles and Freudenberg, among others, have invested or expanded their presence in Punjab.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “SAS Nagar (Mohali) is rapidly transforming into one of Punjab’s principal economic and industrial growth engines and has emerged as the leading district in new investment proposals received through Common Application Forms (CAFs) during the financial years 2022-23 to 2026-27. Mohali received investment proposals worth ₹9,478 crore, followed by Ludhiana with ₹4,968 crore, Patiala with ₹2,590 crore and Hoshiarpur with ₹2,003 crore.”

The Chief Minister said, “Several other districts are also making a significant contribution to Punjab’s industrial growth story. Fatehgarh Sahib attracted proposals worth ₹1,265 crore, Bathinda ₹1,248 crore, Kapurthala ₹1,037 crore and Jalandhar ₹1,003 crore.”

He said, “The geographical spread of investment demonstrates that industrial development is no longer confined to a few traditional industrial centres. New investment is creating opportunities across different regions of Punjab and strengthening the foundations of balanced economic development.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Mohali and Ludhiana alone accounted for 49.8 per cent of the total investments routed through CAFs during the period, underlining the growing importance of these two cities as major economic centres of Punjab. Mohali’s IT, technology and innovation ecosystem is expanding rapidly. The city is steadily developing into a major technology destination and has the potential to emerge as the ‘Silicon Valley of India’.”

The Chief Minister said, “Our government is committed to providing the required ecosystem for technology companies, start-ups, knowledge-based industries and innovative enterprises so that Punjab’s educated and skilled youth can find quality employment opportunities within the state.”

He said, “Punjab’s emerging industrial landscape is also becoming increasingly diversified. Investment proposals received through CAFs cover several high-growth sectors, including real estate, housing and infrastructure, alloy steel and metal manufacturing, agri and food processing, bio-energy and renewable resources, automobile components, textiles and apparel, among others.”

“Diversification of the industrial base will strengthen Punjab’s economy, reduce dependence on traditional sectors and create a wider range of employment opportunities for our young people,” he added.

Reiterating his government’s commitment to strengthening Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Specialised industrial clusters are being promoted in key industrial hubs of the state to provide focused support to MSMEs and allied enterprises. SAS Nagar (Mohali) has been approved for a Hi-Tech Metal Cluster, providing a focused ecosystem for enterprises operating in advanced metal manufacturing and allied sectors. Ludhiana has been approved for specialised clusters relating to Oil Expeller and Parts Manufacturing, Garments and Honey Processing, while Patiala has been selected for a dedicated Cutting Tool Cluster.”

The Chief Minister stated, “These clusters will enable enterprises to benefit from common infrastructure, modern technology, skill development, economies of scale and better market linkages. Strengthening MSMEs is crucial because these enterprises play a major role in generating employment, nurturing entrepreneurship and supporting large industries through robust local supply chains.”

He said, “Industrial growth cannot be sustained without modern and reliable infrastructure. To accelerate this process, two major Industrial Park projects in Punjab have also been approved.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “These initiatives will provide modern industrial infrastructure and create a stronger ecosystem for new enterprises, expansion of existing industries and attraction of further investment. Our government is simultaneously working to improve connectivity, industrial infrastructure, ease of doing business and administrative support so that investors can establish and expand their units in Punjab without unnecessary procedural hurdles.”

The Chief Minister stated, “Our industrial policy is not merely about attracting investment figures. The real objective is to translate investment into jobs, entrepreneurship, higher incomes and better opportunities for Punjab’s youth.”

He said, “The investment of ₹1.89 lakh crore and employment potential of around 6.31 lakh youth are significant indicators of the transformation underway in Punjab’s industrial sector.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Punjab has the talent, entrepreneurial spirit, skilled workforce, strategic location and industrial base required to become a leading investment destination. The task before our government is to provide an ecosystem in which these inherent strengths can be converted into sustainable economic growth. The state government will continue to work with industry as a facilitator and partner, ensuring faster approvals, better infrastructure, policy support and responsive administration.”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab leader and Punjab Youth Development Board Chairman Parminder Singh Goldy said that a grand ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ programme will be held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, on September 28 to mark the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Ji.

Addressing a press conference on Friday along with AAP MLA and Youth Wing President Manjinder Singh Lalpura, AAP Punjab Working President Amansher Singh Shery Kalsi and Youth Wing State Vice President Bir Davinder Singh, Chairman Parminder Singh Goldy said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government is mobilising the youth to build a ‘Rangla Punjab’ once again. Youth are being connected with youth clubs in every village. The Aam Aadmi Party government has provided sports grounds, indoor and outdoor gyms, ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ and ‘Youth Runs’ as platforms for young people who had been straying from the right path for a long time. These efforts are helping create a happy and prosperous Punjab. On the occasion, the leaders also jointly launched the poster for the ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ programme.

MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura said that opposition parties claimed Punjab’s youth had gone astray, but when the marathons were organised, thousands of young people came forward and registered. Thousands of youth also participated in the Bathinda marathon. He said those who claimed that Punjab’s youth had been ruined must see that even today, the youth of Punjab are following the path shown by Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

He said the main event will begin at 3:00 PM on September 28 at PAU Ludhiana. Before the main event, university students will showcase their art and talent. The evening will feature a cultural performance by renowned singer Ranjit Bawa, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will deliver a special message to the youth of Punjab. More than 1.25 lakh youth have registered for the event so far.

MLA Shery Kalsi said that the ideology of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji played an important role in the country’s freedom struggle, and it is our responsibility to carry his vision forward. He said that from the very beginning, the Aam Aadmi Party government has given priority to the ideology of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji.

Targeting the Akali Dal, Congress and BJP, he said these parties defamed Punjab by calling it ‘Udta Punjab’ and labelled its youth as drug addicts. He said the large turnout of young people at marathons and sports events has shown that Punjab’s youth are united against drugs. He added that there is strong enthusiasm among the youth across the state for the ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ programme in Ludhiana.

Aam Aadmi Party Youth Wing Vice President Bir Davinder Singh said the programme is being organised by the Youth Wing. The campaign to connect with the youth began with a Youth Marathon in Mohali, where 10,000 young people participated. Marathons were later held in Jalandhar and Bathinda, with 25,000 youth participating in Bathinda, where young people created a new record of participation.

He said that while opposition parties were busy defaming Punjab’s youth, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a meeting with the Youth Wing team and decided to use ‘Jashan-e-Inquilab’ on Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji’s birth anniversary to showcase Punjab’s progress and prosperity. He said the registration of lakhs of young people for the programme shows that Punjab’s future is in safe and progressive hands.

Harjinder Singh Dhami Giving Himself 15 Days To Let Matter Cool Down, What Are They Trying To Hide? Questions Will Not Go Away: Baltej Pannu

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Friday launched a sharp attack on Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee) President Harjinder Singh Dhami over the controversy surrounding the SGPC sarai at Sri Anandpur Sahib and the FIR registered against Amarjit Singh Chawla and Malkit Singh. Baltej Pannu said that even after Amarjit Singh Chawla and Malkit Singh were expelled from the Panth, the SGPC had not put up even a single signboard outside its institutes and gurdwaras informing the Sikh sangat that no association should be maintained with them.

In a press conference, AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu said, Harjinder Singh Dhami is avoiding a press conference and had instead appeared through a video to announce a four-member committee and himself given 15 days to the committee to answer questions. What is the purpose of giving 15 days? Is Harjinder Singh Dhami hoping that after 15 days people will forget this matter? The questions are not going away. Sikh intellectuals and different Sikh organisations are now asking questions, and the SGPC has to answer them.”

Questioning the composition of the committee, Baltej Pannu asked how junior members could question senior leaders whose names had surfaced in the controversy. “The woman herself has said in her video that she had approached people with her complaint. Sukhbir Singh Badal and Harjinder Singh Dhami have been named in the matter. Will these junior members question them? Who among these four members has the legal expertise required to investigate such a serious matter?” he asked.

The AAP Punjab Media In-charge said that if the SGPC genuinely wanted an impartial inquiry, it could have included a retired Sikh judge or a retired police officer who is a practising Gur Sikh and has experience of investigation and law. “Why was no such person included? Was there a fear that an honest and independent inquiry might bring out the truth?” Baltej Pannu asked.

Baltej Pannu questioned why the woman was allowed to stay in the SGPC sarai for such a long period and demanded answers about what exactly happened there. He also asked what role Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer and Virsa Singh Valtoha played in bringing the woman there and whether the committee would question them about the circumstances in which she was brought to the sarai.

Baltej Pannu said the entire exercise appeared to be aimed at keeping the matter pending and allowing it to cool down. “They have formed a committee of junior members and given it 15 days so that the issue can be pushed forward. But people are asking questions now, and the SGPC cannot escape those questions by simply announcing a committee,” he said.

The AAP Punjab Media In-charge also strongly objected to the attempts to divert attention towards the woman’s character. Baltej Pannu said that instead of answering questions about the SGPC sarai and the circumstances in which she was kept there, statements were being made about cases allegedly registered against her and the period she spent in jail. “Why is the focus being shifted to the woman? The questions are about what happened in the SGPC sarai, who brought her there, why she was kept there and what the SGPC leadership knew about it,” he said.

Baltej Pannu said, “The silence of senior Akali leaders is equally revealing. Why did Sukhbir Singh Badal and Harsimrat Kaur Badal refuse to answer questions and Bikram Singh Majithia, who holds several press conferences on political issues, was also silent on this matter.”

“Harsimrat Kaur Badal gathers women when it suits her political propaganda, but when the matter concerns a woman who is raising serious allegations, Harsimrat Kaur Badal has nothing to say. Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia are also running away from questions. They are issuing videos instead of facing the media,” Baltej Pannu said.

Baltej Pannu said the Congress and BJP were also maintaining a conspicuous silence. “I watch the debates on this issue. BJP spokespersons are not even coming forward to speak on it. Congress leaders Partap Bajwa and Raja Warring are also silent. Leaders who have plenty to say on every political issue have suddenly disappeared when questions are being asked about this matter,” he said.

Taking aim at the Badal family’s control over Sikh institutions, Baltej Pannu said the condition of the SGPC under Sukhbir Singh Badal’s leadership was before everyone. Baltej Pannu said Sukhbir Singh Badal was the “chief custodian” of the Akali Dal while Harjinder Singh Dhami was responsible for the SGPC, and questioned why neither Sukhbir Singh Badal nor Harjinder Singh Dhami was giving satisfactory answers to the Sikh sangat.

Baltej Pannu also questioned the circumstances surrounding the SGPC elections and the role of political interests in the matter. Referring to one of the members of the four-member committee, he asked whether the person was the same individual who had approached the High Court in connection with the SGPC elections and whose petition had stopped the elections.

Baltej Pannu said the person was also a member elected to the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and questioned whether such issues should be ignored while constituting a committee to examine the present controversy.

Baltej Pannu said the Badal leadership wanted to prevent SGPC elections and questioned the BJP’s silence in this context. Baltej Pannu said the alleged political understanding between the Badals and the BJP could not be separated from the larger question of control over Sikh institutions.

Baltej Pannu said SGPC members had a responsibility to speak up instead of remaining silent. Baltej Pannu said Sikh intellectuals and different Sikh organisations must continue asking questions because, according to Baltej Pannu, the controversy had caused serious damage to the image and credibility of Sikh institutions. “These are our high and revered institutions. What has happened has caused them immense damage. The question is why an attempt is now being made to suppress the matter instead of giving clear answers to the Sikh sangat,” he said.
