Dhruva Sarja’s big-ticket action drama KD The Devil has opened in theatres, but its first-day box office numbers have come as a surprise. Yet, the opening day performance has fallen well below expectations.

According to Sacnilk, KD The Devil collected Rs 3.50 cr net in India on Day 1, while the India gross is said to be around Rs 4.10 cr. For a film mounted on a large scale and carrying strong pre-release hype, the numbers have triggered fresh debate around its release strategy and audience reach.

The biggest talking point is the comparison with Dhruva Sarja’s earlier release Martin. The action film had opened much stronger with Rs 6.70 cr net on Day 1, nearly double the start of KD The Devil.

Another major difference lies in the screen count. Martin reportedly released across 2,789 shows, giving it a much wider reach from day one. In contrast, KD The Devil had around 845 shows, limiting its visibility in several markets.

Did Kannada-Only Release Affect KD The Devil?

Industry watchers believe the biggest setback may be the film’s language rollout. While Martin was released in multiple languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, KD The Devil has mainly opened as a Kannada release.

In today’s market, multilingual releases often play a huge role in boosting opening day numbers. Big action entertainers depend heavily on pan-India audiences, especially when the cast includes familiar names like Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty.

Without a simultaneous dubbed push in other languages, KD The Devil may have missed out on key revenue from non-Kannada markets. That likely impacted its first-day total.

Can It Recover Over The Weekend?

Despite the slower start, the film still has room to grow. Reports suggest Day 1 occupancy was around 46%, showing there is audience interest.

If word of mouth turns positive, weekend footfalls could improve sharply. Mass entertainers often perform better from Friday evening onward, especially in Karnataka centres.

ATF Export Duty: The Union Government has announced export duty cuts on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) while leaving duties on domestic consumption on petrol and diesel unchanged.

Export duty on diesel was reduced to Rs. 23 rupees ($0.2424) per litre from an earlier Rs. 55.5. In contrast, the export duty on ATF was cut to Rs. 33 from Rs. 42. The Indian government has also capped a monthly increase in ATF prices for domestic airlines at 25 percent in the month of April 2026.

The move comes just weeks after the government had sharply increased these very duties in April 2026, when global oil prices surged past $100 per barrel due to supply disruptions linked to geopolitical conflicts. The earlier hike was aimed at discouraging exports and ensuring domestic fuel availability. Now, the partial rollback signals a shift in priorities, from supply protection to economic balancing.

Why ATF Matters So Much for Airlines?

For airlines, aviation turbine fuel is not just another cost component as it is the single largest expense. Industry estimates suggest ATF can account for up to 40% of an airline’s operating costs.

When fuel prices rise, airlines face a difficult choice of whether to absorb the costs and suffer losses, or pass them on to consumers in the form of higher airfares. By lowering export duties, the government effectively reduces the tax burden on refiners exporting ATF. This came after a slight weekday recovery earlier in the week and helped the film close its second week with a total domestic collection of Rs 128.05 crore. The film had seen a major drop on second Monday, collecting Rs 3.40 crore after earning Rs 12.50 crore on the second Sunday. However, it bounced back on Tuesday with Rs 4.35 crore, showing that audience pull still remains.

The overall occupancy on Thursday was 11.0%. Morning shows recorded 5.62%, afternoon shows saw 11.23%, while evening shows registered 12.08%. While the numbers are lower than opening week levels, the hold is still considered healthy for a film entering its third weekend.

Can Bhooth Bangla Cross Rs 150 Crore In 3rd Week?

With a current total of Rs 128.05 crore, Bhooth Bangla now needs around Rs 22 crore more to cross the Rs 150 crore mark. That target looks possible if the film performs strongly over the third weekend. Family audiences, repeat viewers and Akshay Kumar fans could help the film stay steady in coming days. Discount offers like the earlier ‘Buy One Get One’ scheme have also helped sustain weekday footfalls.

If the momentum continues, Bhooth Bangla may comfortably move closer to the Rs 150 crore club next week.

About The Film

The story follows London-based Arjun, played by Akshay Kumar, and his sister, played by Mithila, who inherit a fortune and an old palace from their grandfather. Arjun travels to Mangalpur, India, to prepare the palace for his sister’s wedding. But the village carries a terrifying curse. No wedding is ever completed because a mysterious force named Vadhusur kidnaps brides. The film mixes comedy, mystery and supernatural chaos in classic Priyadarshan style.

Bhooth Bangla features Akshay Kumar in a dual role along with Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, Paresh Rawal and Asrani. The film has also created two notable milestones. Ali Pervaiz Malik suggested that India is relatively stable compared to Pakistan because of adequate forex and strategic oil reserves. Malik said these two factors help Bharat absorb the oil disruption effects that have troubled the world because of the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. Malik also commented that the strict IMF conditions is making things challenging for Pakistan’s economy.

Malik, the Pakistan’s Petroleum Minister, commented that the stringent conditions imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Pakistan were extremely troubling in nature. Malik said Pakistan had to enter into discussions with the IMF to provide relief to Pakistani people due to the rising oil prices.

Malik also commented that the Pakistani government decided to cut down on the levy on diesel prices to zero while shifting the entire burden to petrol while protecting motorcyclists through targeted subsidies. Malik said Pakistan did its level best to convince the IMF to reduce diesel levy by Rs. 80 a litre.

Malik added that Pakistan only has commercial reserves for 5-7 days unlike India that has reserves for 60-70 days.
