Bhagwant Mann Govt’s Decisive Battle to Make Punjab Drug-Free & Gangster-Free Continues: Kuldeep Dhaliwal

Kuldeep

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Dhaliwal on Friday highlighted the historic initiatives undertaken by the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government to eradicate drugs and gangsterism from the state, asserting that the government has been relentlessly fighting against these two major social evils for the past four and a half years. He said the Mann Government remains fully committed to making Punjab completely drug-free and gangster-free, and the campaign will continue until every drug smuggler and gangster is brought to justice.

Addressing a press conference at the party office, AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said the Punjab Government’s determined campaign against drugs has yielded unprecedented results under the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ initiative. “The Bhagwant Singh Mann Government’s battle against drugs will continue until drugs are completely eliminated from Punjab and every single gangster is behind bars. We are committed to securing the future of Punjab’s youth and restoring peace across the state,” he said.

Sharing details of the campaign, Kuldeep Dhaliwal said that from March 1, 2025, to June 25, 2026, the Punjab Police registered a total of 5,091 cases and arrested 7,105 drug smugglers.

He said that during this period, the police seized 3,103 kilograms of heroin, 2.4 kilograms of smack, 831 kilograms of opium, 6 quintals and 74 kilograms of poppy husk, 84 quintals and 789 kilograms of charas, 10 quintals of ganja, 4 quintals of cocaine, 5 quintals of ice, and 165 kilograms of intoxicating powder. “Apart from narcotic substances, the Punjab Police also recovered 2,100 narcotic medicines, injections, and capsules, besides seizing a record ₹18.73 crore in drug money from smugglers,” he added.

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, this is the first government in Punjab to demolish the houses of major drug dealers and smugglers. “The Punjab Police is working tirelessly at the grassroots level to eliminate the drug menace. However, despite the relentless efforts of our police force, the BJP-led Central Government has failed to extend the cooperation required to secure Punjab’s borders,” he said.

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal pointed out that drugs and sophisticated weapons are continuously being smuggled into Punjab from Pakistan through drones operating across the state’s 532-kilometre-long international border, creating a major challenge for the Punjab Police.

He said that while the BSF personnel deployed along the border are making every possible effort to stop cross-border smuggling, the absence of advanced anti-drone technology often allows drones to drop drugs and weapons before returning safely across the border. “Had the Central Government installed the anti-drone systems along Punjab’s international border as repeatedly demanded by the Punjab Government, drugs could have been completely eliminated from Punjab by now,” he said.

Questioning the intentions of the BJP-led Central Government, Kuldeep Dhaliwal said that the Centre does not want drugs and gangsterism to end in Punjab. “They want the atmosphere in Punjab to remain tense and the youth of the state to remain trapped in the menace of drugs. Several drug smugglers from Gujarat have also been arrested in Punjab, which indicates that there is a deeper conspiracy behind this entire issue,” he said.

Highlighting the Punjab Police’s campaign against organised crime, Dhaliwal said that under the DGP’s ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, raids were conducted at 562 locations across the state, resulting in the arrest of 332 criminals, including 147 dangerous offenders who posed a serious threat of committing major crimes.

He said that the total number of arrests made under the campaign has now reached 40,353. To encourage public participation in the fight against organised crime, the Punjab Government also launched a dedicated helpline number, 93946-93946, enabling citizens to share information about gangsters without fear. He said the helpline has received overwhelming public support.

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal further said that gangsters operating criminal networks in Punjab while sitting in foreign countries such as Dubai, England, and Canada continue to pose a serious challenge. “The Bhagwant Mann Government is keeping a close watch on all their hideouts and activities. However, the cooperation of the Central Government is essential to bring these criminals back to India. Unfortunately, due to the BJP’s wrong intentions, that cooperation is not being extended. If the Centre genuinely cooperates, these issues can be resolved in no time,” he said.

Highlighting the welfare initiatives undertaken by the Bhagwant Singh Mann Government, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that while the government is taking the toughest possible action against drugs, gangsters, and organised crime, it is simultaneously ensuring the welfare and prosperity of the people of Punjab.

He said the government is providing financial assistance of ₹1,000 and ₹1,500 per month to women under the Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, 600 units of free electricity to every household, cashless health coverage of up to ₹10 lakh for every family through the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, and has undertaken the historic initiative of ensuring canal water reaches farmers’ fields.

“The AAP Government remains committed on every front to ensuring the security, prosperity, and overall development of Punjab. While we are relentlessly eliminating drugs and gangsterism from the state, we are simultaneously strengthening public welfare and improving the lives of every section of society,” Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal concluded.

CM Bhagwant Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday said that the state government is constructing 3,100 stadiums across the state to promote sporting culture and wean away the youth from the curse of drugs. While laying the foundation stone of a sports stadium in Samana, the Chief Minister said that the state government is making unprecedented investments in sports infrastructure to encourage youth participation in sports, eradicate the menace of drugs and prepare athletes to excel at national and international levels.

Addressing the gathering, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “This sports stadium will be constructed over nine acres of Panchayati (village common) land at an estimated cost of ₹10.35 crore. The stadium will feature an international-standard 400-metre synthetic athletics track with eight lanes. The synthetic track will be suitable for hosting athletic events such as 100-metre, 200-metre and 400-metre races, along with other track competitions.”

The Chief Minister further said, “The infield area within the track will be developed with world-class facilities for field events, including shot put, hammer throw, long jump, high jump, discus throw and other games. This will enable athletes to train and compete at a high level. The construction of this stadium will greatly benefit the youth and sportspersons of the Samana Assembly constituency as well as adjoining areas. It will provide them with access to national-level training facilities, helping them excel in athletics and bring laurels to their constituency and the state of Punjab at the national level.”

Reiterating that promotion of sports is the strongest weapon in the fight against drugs, the Chief Minister said, “Promotion of sports culture can be the most effective tool in the state government’s crusade against drugs. With the promotion of sports, the unbounded energy of the youth is being utilised for excelling in sports. The youth who are involved in sports have no time even to look at drugs because they are using all their might to excel in their respective fields. This will go a long way in eliminating the curse of drugs from the state and making the youth an equal partner in the socio-economic development of Punjab.”

Highlighting the state’s sports infrastructure initiative, the Chief Minister said, “With the objective of ensuring a healthy body and a sound mind, the Punjab Government is developing 3,100 rural sports grounds equipped with modern facilities across the state at a cost of ₹1,250 crore. These sports grounds will play a revolutionary role in the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign. They will encourage youth to stay away from substance abuse and help them achieve their dreams of winning medals at national and international levels.”

Listing the facilities being created, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “These grounds will act as a beacon of hope and opportunity for budding players and help promote sporting culture in the state. These stadiums will have fenced boundaries with plantations along the perimeter and six-foot-wide walking tracks with floodlights for early morning and evening use. They will have courts for volleyball, football and hockey, along with additional courts based on locally popular sports.”

He further said, “Likewise, a 400-metre, six-lane running track, high-capacity lighting with 2×250W LED lights, a submersible pump with a sprinkler system, concrete benches, a dedicated children’s play area, toilets for men and women, wheelchair ramps and storage facilities for sports equipment will also be provided. Special focus is also being laid on distributing sports kits and equipment, along with imparting quality training to the youth through highly professional coaches. The state has witnessed a historic increase in the sports budget, with ₹1,791 crore allocated for the year 2026–27.”

The Chief Minister said, “A new sports policy was introduced in 2023 and, for the first time, financial support for preparation, including ₹15 lakh for the Olympics and ₹8 lakh for the Asian Games, is being given. Paris Olympics bronze medal-winning hockey players were awarded ₹1 crore each and Asian Games gold medallists were also awarded ₹1 crore each. Similarly, nine Olympic medallists have been given PCS and DSP jobs. ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’ has been able to foster sporting culture in the state.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “These games have been organised for three years to prepare youth for national and international competitions. Five lakh players participated in 2024–25 and ₹97.3 crore has been spent over three years. Kila Raipur Rural Games have been widely acclaimed and have earned global recognition as the ‘Mini Olympics’. On July 11, 2025, the Punjab Legislative Assembly unanimously passed the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Punjab Amendment) Act, 2025. This enabled the revival of traditional rural sports such as bullock cart races and, after 2014, this year’s bullock cart races once again became a major attraction.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said, “It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that, for the first time, Punjab has got the opportunity to hold an international event in the form of the Asian Cup Hockey and it is a big achievement in the field of sports. Despite strong Punjabi representation, Punjab had never hosted a major hockey tournament until now.”

Holistic Development of ‘Pinds’ Will Make Punjab No.1 in Country: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann

CM Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday called upon Sarpanches to rise above parochial considerations and work wholeheartedly for the comprehensive development of Pinds (villages). During a Sarpanch Milni, the Chief Minister announced that Sarpanches will receive an honorarium of ₹10,000 per month from August 15. He also urged them to ensure transparent utilization of public funds, eliminate groupism, promote communal harmony, and lead efforts to make villages drug-free, clean, green and pollution-free.

Addressing the gathering during the Sarpanch Milni, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Panchayats are known as the foundation of democracy because they have immense power and their decisions are obeyed by the entire village with respect. It is the bounden duty of every Sarpanch to safeguard the interests of villagers and cherish their aspirations. Around 70% of our country’s population lives in villages, due to which Panchayati Raj Institutions are regarded as the lighthouse of democracy.”

The Chief Minister said, “These institutions act as a catalyst for disseminating the benefits of the state government’s pro-people and development-oriented schemes at the grassroots level. The state government frames policies, while Sarpanches and Panches play a major role in implementing them on the ground. I urge all Sarpanches to rededicate themselves to development works from today so that the people are immensely benefited.”

Making a major announcement, the Chief Minister said, “Sarpanches will be given an honorarium of ₹10,000 per month from August 15. Earlier, my predecessors had promised an honorarium of ₹1,200 to Sarpanches, but that decision never saw the light of the day and Sarpanches had to run from pillar to post to receive it. However, our government started providing an honorarium of ₹2,000 to Sarpanches, which will now be increased to ₹10,000 per month.”

The Chief Minister noted, “Our government is issuing grants for works that are of immense public importance and are already under the direct supervision of Panchayats. Likewise, various works pertaining to the development of villages are also undertaken under their guidance. Sarpanches should ensure dedicated supervision of these works and services. It is the moral duty of every Sarpanch to ensure that every single penny of the taxpayers’ money is fully utilized in a transparent manner.”.

Giving a clarion call to Sarpanches, the Chief Minister said, “Sarpanches should remain away from any sort of undue interference in these works. It is very unfortunate that in the past several works in villages were jeopardized due to widespread groupism. Sarpanches must accord top priority to abolishing groupism in villages so that holistic development of rural areas can be ensured. In a democracy, the person or party that attains the majority is the winner, but once elected, the Sarpanch belongs to the whole village.”

The Chief Minister further stated, “Sarpanches should treat every resident of the village equally and every decision must be taken neutrally. There are several Sarpanches who have transformed their villages through their wisdom and farsightedness. Sarpanches should accord major thrust to making their villages drug-free so that the youth can be weaned away from the menace of drugs. They should also work hard to strengthen the ethos of communal harmony, peace and brotherhood in villages.”

The Chief Minister said, “It is imperative to give further fillip to the pace of development and prosperity in villages. The Punjab Government is committed to the overall development and progress of villages, and no stone is being left unturned for this noble cause. Sarpanches are a bridge between the government and villages, and you should play a major role in the development of villages.”

Assuring the Sarpanches of full support, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann affirmed, “There is no dearth of funds for undertaking developmental works in villages. Prioritise the development works of your villages so that the state government can get the work started on them. I urge all of you to play a proactive role in transforming the villages of the state by starting a constructive campaign so that together we can carve out a Rangla Punjab. Work hard to make villages clean, green and pollution-free. The state government is fully committed to this noble cause.”

The Chief Minister said, “The toughest election in the state is that of a Sarpanch because they are the ones connected with the people at the grassroots level. A Sarpanch is the head of the village, and a good Sarpanch can give a facelift to the village and ensure the prosperity of its people. This Sarpanch Milni is a unique initiative aimed at understanding issues at the village level. There is no shortage of grants, but these must be utilized in the right earnest in villages.”

He reiterated, “Allegations can be levelled against anyone, but the right Sarpanches are the pivot of village development. Earlier, previous regimes had their share in the grants, due to which development suffered. Today, a huge sum of grants is reaching villages, and the day is not far when the villages of Punjab will be completely rejuvenated with this money. Prioritise development works and ensure that these funds are spent in such a manner that every section of society benefits from them.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann further said, “Priority should be given to the construction of libraries, schools, solar lights and then the streets so that holistic development of villages is ensured. This is imperative for accelerating the development of the state and is the need of the hour to make Punjab the frontrunner in the country. I assure every Sarpanch of my government’s fulsome support and cooperation for the holistic development of villages and the prosperity of their people.”
