Venezuela in Crisis After Drone Sightings and Gunshots, Will Donald Trump Write Caracas’s Destiny from Washington?

Venezuela: Intense clashes, drone sightings and gunfire were reported near the Miraflores Presidential Palace in Venezuela’s Caracas.

This was after Vice President Delcy Rodrguez was sworn in as the interim President of Venezuela. A few days back, US President Donald Trump directed his troops to capture the now-deposed Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Was the United States involved in this latest series of attacks?

A White House official confirmed that the United States was not involved in any way whatsoever with the recent attacks on Venezuela.

It has been reported that the gunfire may have originated from a possible misunderstanding between the security groups in proximity with the Miraflores Palace.

In another development, Trump has remarked that his country is not at war with the South American nation. Trump added that he will not push for elections in the near future. The US President added Venezuela needs to first get fixed before an election can happen there.

Trump went on to add that the United States will help in rebuilding the country. He also said oil companies from USA could possibly play an important role in rebuilding the energy infrastructure of Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Maduro has been arraigned on charges of cocaine importation and narco-terrorism conspiracies.

AR Rahman Birthday - Top Controversies

AR Rahman turns 59 today, on January 6, 2026. Over the years, he has become one of the most respected names in Indian and global music. Fans across generations know him as the “Mozart of Madras.” His music changed Indian cinema by blending classical Indian sounds with electronic music, global influences, and rich orchestral arrangements.

Rahman rose to fame with Roja in 1992. The film earned him instant recognition and a National Film Award. Global success followed with Slumdog Millionaire, which won him 2 Oscars, 2 Grammys and a Golden Globe. Beyond awards, his work has shaped modern film music. He also supports young talent through the KM Music Conservatory and honours legends through the Bharat Maestro Awards.

On his birthday, let’s look at moments when AR Rahman made headlines for his statements, decisions and public stands.

AR Rahman Birthday: Times When He Made Huge Headlines

‘Bollywood gang’ remark sparked debate

In 2020, during the insider versus outsider debate, Rahman made a strong claim. He said a “gang” in Bollywood was spreading false rumours about him. He stated, “I think there is a gang, which, due to misunderstandings, is spreading some false rumours… I understand why I am doing less work and why good movies are not coming to me”. The comment triggered a wide discussion and support from fans.

Oscars selection comment raised questions

In 2023, Rahman spoke about India’s Oscar entry process. He felt that the wrong films often get sent. He said, “Sometimes, I see that our movies go till the Oscar… they don’t get it. Wrong movies are being sent for the Oscars. And I am just like DON’T”. His words sparked fresh debate on how films are chosen.

‘Who cares about Oscars now?’ statement surprised fans

In late 2024, Rahman said awards no longer motivate him. He shared, “I won the Oscars a long time ago, but now, who cares? I am doing work that is close to me and will inspire future generations”. Many saw this as a shift towards meaningful and purpose-driven work.

Language and identity views stayed in focus

Rahman has often spoken about language pride. In 2022, he reacted to the push for Hindi by sharing a post highlighting Tamil as the “root” of rights. In 2025, he revealed that he learned Hindi and Urdu to avoid the “humiliation” of negative reactions to translated Tamil lyrics.

Divorce rumours led to legal notice

In November 2024, Rahman announced his separation from Saira Banu. Soon after, he issued a legal notice against online rumours. He warned YouTubers to remove “concocted and fertile imaginary stories” linking his personal life to Mohini Dey.

Strong stand against remixes

Rahman has repeatedly criticised the remix trend in Bollywood. He has spoken against using original work without permission. He once said, “You can’t imagine people using someone’s work without their permission”. His stand earned praise from music lovers.

Collaboration backlash in 2025

In late 2025, Rahman faced criticism for working with choreographer Jani Master on Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor‘s Peddi. The backlash came as Jani Master was out on bail in a sexual harassment case. Some questioned the decision, given Rahman’s earlier #MeToo stance.

At 59, AR Rahman remains influential and outspoken. His journey shows that his impact goes far beyond awards, charts and trophies.

Delhi NCR Weather Update: The cold wave across north and central India is set to intensify further, with dense fog expected to disrupt daily life over the next several days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a thick fog blanket will continue during morning hours across northwest, central, east and northeast India for the next four to five days, significantly reducing visibility in several regions, including the Delhi-NCR belt.

Delhi NCR Weather Update

The IMD has also forecast a gradual drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures over northwest India over the next four days, indicating harsher winter conditions ahead. As temperatures fall, cold day conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets of eastern Rajasthan between January 5 and 7, Jharkhand on January 5, western Rajasthan and sub-Himalayan West Bengal from January 5 to 7, and parts of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal on January 5 and 6.

Dense Fog to Persist for a Week as Cold Wave Intensifies Across North India, Says IMD

Cold wave conditions are expected to grip Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from January 6 to 9, while eastern Rajasthan may experience cold wave conditions from January 6 to 10. Western Rajasthan is likely to be affected between January 8 and 10, Chhattisgarh from January 6 to 8, and Jharkhand on January 6 and 7, the weather agency said.

The impact of dense fog was already visible over the past 24 hours. As per IMD data recorded till 8:30 am on January 5, dense to very dense fog reduced visibility to less than 50 metres in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Several locations witnessed near-zero visibility, including Gorakhpur, Gwalior and Jabalpur. Isolated areas of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Uttarakhand also reported dense fog conditions, severely affecting road, rail and air traffic.

In Delhi-NCR, persistent fog and falling temperatures are likely to cause delays in flights and trains, while commuters may face poor visibility during early morning hours. The IMD has advised people to remain cautious while travelling and to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from prolonged cold exposure.

With winter tightening its grip, authorities have urged residents, especially the elderly and children, to stay warm and follow weather advisories closely as foggy and cold conditions are expected to dominate large parts of northern India in the coming days.

A shocking incident of sexual violence against a Hindu woman has surfaced from Bangladesh, triggering outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of religious minorities. According to an NDTV report, a 40-year-old Hindu widow was allegedly gang-raped by two men in Kaliganj, a sub-district of Jhenaidah district in central Bangladesh. The accused reportedly tied the woman to a tree, cut off her hair, and circulated a video of the assault on social media.

Bangladesh Woman Raped: Hindu Widow’s Scalp Ripped, Body Violated!

As per the victim’s police complaint, she had purchased a two-storey house along with three decimals of land for nearly 2 million taka around two-and-a-half years ago from a local man named Shahin and his brother. Following the land deal, Shahin allegedly began harassing the widow and making indecent proposals, which she repeatedly rejected.

Is Muhammad Yunus Sleeping?

The situation escalated on Saturday evening when two relatives from the woman’s village were visiting her home. Shahin, along with his associate Hasan, allegedly forced their way into the house and raped the woman. After the assault, the accused demanded 50,000 taka (approximately ₹37,000) from her, the NDTV report stated.

When the woman refused to pay, the accused allegedly assaulted her relatives and chased them away. As the victim raised an alarm, the attackers reportedly tied her to a tree, forcibly cut her hair, recorded the act on video, and later shared it on social media, further humiliating and traumatising her.

The brutal incident has sparked anger among human rights activists and minority groups, who say it reflects the worsening condition of law and order and the vulnerability of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. Many have questioned the role of the authorities and demanded strict action against the accused, as well as accountability from the government.

Police officials have stated that a case has been registered based on the woman’s complaint and an investigation is underway. However, the incident has once again highlighted serious concerns about women’s safety, communal targeting, and the misuse of social media to further victimise survivors of sexual violence.

The case has drawn international attention, with calls for swift justice and stronger measures to protect minority communities and women from such heinous crimes.

Panchkosi Parikrama begins at Magh Mela with prayers on the Triveni banks

Panchkosi Parikrama

The Panchkosi Parikrama, an enduring symbol of Prayag’s timeless traditions, faith, and cultural consciousness, has commenced at the Magh Mela. The five-day pilgrimage began on Monday with Ganga Puja at the Sangam, led by the Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad and Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara. The yatra will conclude with a Bhandara for saints and ascetics on the final day.
The Magh Mela administration has been entrusted with managing traffic arrangements during the pilgrimage. Following the Ganga Puja, the procession of saints visited the sacred Akshayavat and the Adi Shankar Vimana Mandapam temple, marking the completion of the first day’s rituals.

The Panchkosi Parikrama is an ancient and revered religious tradition of Prayag. Mahant Hari Giri, General Secretary of the Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad, explained that the pilgrimage is rooted in the traditional geographical expanse of Prayagraj, which is believed to extend across five yojanas and twenty kos.

The region encompasses six riverbanks of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati, forming three sacred zones, Antarvedi, Madhyavedi, and Bahirvedi. These areas are home to numerous major and minor pilgrimage sites, temples, ashrams, and monasteries, all of which are covered during the circumambulation.
Performing the Panchkosi Parikrama is considered essential for devotees visiting Prayagraj, as it offers the spiritual merit of darshan of all sacred sites within this holy region.

The grand and divine Magh Mela is marked by several age-old traditions, including Kalpavas and the Panchkosi Parikrama.

Mahant Ravindra Puri, President of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, who also participated in the pilgrimage, noted that the Panchkosi Parikrama was an integral part of the Magh Mela until it was discontinued 556 years ago during the Mughal period under Emperor Akbar. After centuries, and following persistent demands from saints and ascetics, the tradition was revived in 2019 through the efforts of the CM Yogi government. Since then, the Panchkosi Parikrama has continued uninterrupted, restoring a vital spiritual legacy of Prayagraj.

Employment generation accelerated through the Skill Development Mission, millions of youth get jobs due to the efforts of the CM Yogi govt

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission being run by the Uttar Pradesh government has emerged as a strong medium for large scale employment generation in the state.

Through an integrated model of skill training, industry participation and employment fairs, the Yogi government has taken concrete steps towards making youth self-reliant by connecting lakhs of young people with employment.

Taking this initiative forward, at the beginning of the year 2026, divisional level mega employment fairs are being organized in five districts of the state. Through these employment fairs, a large number of private sector companies will provide on-the-spot employment opportunities to nearly one lakh youth.

The Minister of State for Vocational Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) Kapil Dev Agarwal stated, the objective of the Yogi government is to provide employment to youth at the local level, prevent migration and move the state towards the goal of a one trillion dollar economy.

He said, under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is designing skill training in accordance with the needs of industries, so that after training, youth can be directly linked to employment.

He informed, on average around 100 companies will participate in each employment fair being organized this month and nearly 20,000 youth will be directly connected to jobs.

In this way, the target is to generate one lakh jobs through all five employment fairs. Candidates from several districts of the concerned divisions will participate in these fairs.

It is noteworthy that from the financial year 2017-18 till date, 186 mega employment fairs have been organized at the district and divisional levels. Through these fairs, more than 4.32 lakh youth have been provided employment, which reflects the success of the Yogi government’s employment-oriented policies.

The Yogi government has also adopted a focused strategy to connect youth from rural areas with employment. Under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana, more than 2.26 lakh rural youth have been provided employment through 1,624 employment fairs so far.

During the covid period, when offline activities were suspended, the Yogi government did not halt the employment generation campaign. Through online employment fairs, more than 10,000 youth were provided jobs during that period.

In the current financial year, on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, employment fairs were organized in 74 districts of the state, in which nearly 21,000 youth were successfully placed.

The state government believes that sustainable employment generation is possible only by linking skill training with the needs of industries.

Under the guidance of the Yogi government, the integrated model adopted under the Skill Development Mission is playing an important role in making youth self-reliant and continuously moving the state forward in the direction of economic strength.

Punjab Government’s Big Gift for NRIs: 27 Services Available from Home Through E-Sanad Portal, Large-Scale ‘NRI Meet’ Planned for 2026

Punjab News

The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has taken a revolutionary step for expatriate Punjabis and the NRI community by launching the ‘NRI E-Sanad Portal’. Under this digital initiative, Punjabis living abroad will now be able to access 27 important government services online. This initiative by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann aims to free the NRI community from the need to repeatedly travel to Punjab for documentation and administrative services. This portal will prove to be a boon for expatriate Punjabis residing in Canada, the USA, the UK, Australia, and European countries who wish to stay connected to their home state.

Through this portal, NRIs will now be able to obtain birth certificates, death certificates, residence certificates, income certificates, caste certificates, marriage registration certificates, and many other documents from the comfort of their homes. Previously, NRIs had to either travel to India or go through a lengthy process through relatives, which often took months. Now, all these services will be available with just a few clicks and digital verification. The government has ensured that the portal is user-friendly and available in both Punjabi and English. This will not only save time and money but also ensure transparency.

The Punjab government has also announced a special gathering for NRI Punjabis in 2026, called ‘NRI Milni’. Under this unique initiative, Punjabis settled across the globe will be brought together on a single platform, where they can actively participate in the state’s development while preserving their cultural identity. This gathering will act as a strong bridge between expatriate Punjabis and their homeland. Opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as business, education, agriculture, health, and technology will be explored during this event. The government believes that the NRI community makes a significant contribution to Punjab’s economy, and it is the state’s responsibility to honor them. According to statistics, Punjab has the highest rate of emigration, with over 3 million people of Punjabi origin settled worldwide. These Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) send billions of rupees in foreign currency to their families every year, strengthening the state’s economy. However, they often faced difficulties due to complexities in administrative services. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “Our NRI brothers and sisters are the heartbeat of Punjab. Making services simpler and more accessible for them is our priority. The e-Sanad portal is a concrete step in that direction.” He also stated that the government plans to add more services to the portal in the future.

According to sources in the NRI Welfare Department, services related to property documents, pension services, and legal certificates will soon be included on the portal. The state government has coordinated with Indian embassies and high commissions abroad to expedite document verification. The portal has been made completely secure using modern technologies such as digital signatures, Aadhaar-based authentication, and OTP verification. Experts believe this move could set an example for other states with large NRI populations.

Jaswinder Singh, who lives in Canada, welcomed the initiative, saying, “This is a huge relief for us. Now we won’t have to buy tickets to India for every small task. The Punjab government has understood our problems and addressed them.” Harpreet Kaur, a businesswoman in London, said that such digital facilities will help Punjabi NRIs stay more strongly connected to their roots. The announcement has also been met with widespread joy among the NRI community on social media. Many have called it a ‘game-changer’ and a ‘historic step’.

Experts say this is a commendable effort towards digital governance that will not only reduce corruption but also improve the quality of services. Technical expert Dr. Amandeep Singh said, “This move by the Punjab government is far-sighted. Such portals are common in developed countries, but this initiative at the state level in India is remarkable.” He said that if implemented correctly, this initiative would take the relationship between overseas Indians and their homeland to new heights. It would also boost investment and cultural exchange.

The Punjab government has also ensured that elderly members of NRI families living in rural areas can benefit from this service. Help desks have been set up in all tehsil and district-level offices. Trained staff will assist citizens and help them with the online application process. The government has also launched a toll-free helpline number that NRIs can contact for any issues. Assistance is available in both English and Punjabi to overcome language barriers.

Officials associated with this initiative say that thousands of NRIs have already registered on the portal in the first month itself. The government has set a target of making all 27 services fully operational within the next six months, ensuring that the NRI community does not face any inconvenience. All relevant departments, including the Revenue Department, Health Department, Education Department, and Police Department, are being integrated with this portal. Data security and privacy have been given top priority, and encryption has been used in accordance with international standards.

This initiative by the Punjab government will undoubtedly prove to be a milestone in strengthening the ties between expatriate Punjabis and their homeland. The younger generation, in particular, who were born and raised abroad, will now be able to easily connect with their roots. In the digital age, such initiatives are not only convenient but also a necessity. In the future, when the ‘NRI Milni’ (NRI gathering) is organized, this portal will form its backbone and play a crucial role in bringing Punjabis from around the world together on a single platform. This effort by the Punjab government demonstrates that public service is the fundamental objective of the government.
