Indian Railways: More than 18200 summer special train trips for the 2026 season have been announced by Indian Railways. The move would help in accommodating the seasonal traveller urge that generally peaks during the months of May, June and July every year due to summer vacations.

Indian Railways-Summer Special Trains

Indian Railways has approved 98 summer special trains that have been distributed strategically across several zones. This would help in managing the heavy influx of migrant workers returning home and holiday commuters.

The services are likely to run between April 16 and July 15, 2026. More than 660 trains accounting for more than 11000 trips have already been notified and a notification for the rest would be shared soon by the Indian Railways.

Frequency And Count Of Summer Special Trains

According to media reports, the expansion would be led by South Central Railway (SCR) that would be leading the count of summer special trains with 124 special trains. In terms of total train frequency, it would be Central Railway that would be leading the way with a whopping 3082 trips, followed closely with 2711 trips by East Central Railway.

What is “Opt Vikalp” Feature?

If you’ve been facing challenges to book your train tickets for the summer vacations, you can utilize the Vikalp or Alternate Train Accommodation Scheme. This feature would help you book confirmed tickets long after charts have been prepared and your ticket still in the waiting list. The Vikap option would help passengers easily identify and book tickets on other trains that are running on the same travel route.

In another development, Indian Railways has announced that travelling for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) would now be facilitated in unreserved Divyangjan coaches of Mail and Express trains. However, PwDs would be required to hold a valid Unique Disability ID (UDID) card.

Monday saw a drop, but Tuesday brought some recovery due to reduced ticket prices.

The overall performance of Bhooth Bangla remains stable in its first week. Paid premieres added Rs 3.75 crore before release, giving the film a strong base. Even with weekday dips, the film has managed to stay in the race and maintain audience interest.

In comparison, Bhooth Bangla has performed better than Bhediya, which collected Rs 35.86 crore in five days, and Munjya, which stood at Rs 27.40 crore in the same period. However, it still trails behind big hits like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 at Rs 76.27 crore and Thamma at Rs 78.70 crore in their respective five-day runs.

Noida International Airport: A request by the Noida International Airport to tweak rules for allowing a foreign national to hold the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a greenfield airport has been turned down by the Union Home Ministry.

The Jewar Airport (DXN) or the Noida International Airport has been developed and operated by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Limited. It is a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, a firm from Switzerland, with Christoph Schnellmann as its CEO.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is not in the favour of allowing foreign nationals to be the Chief Executive Officer of a greenfield airport.

Recently, a letter was sent to the MHA requesting an amendment to the rules that mandate that the CEO of a greenfield airport could only be an Indian national on the grounds of air operations security. The letter was sent by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), which is the aviation security regulator under the civil aviation ministry, to the MHA.

Mallikarjun Kharge had commented that he is surprised to find out how the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) who themselves put the photo of Annadurai can join Narendra Modi who is a terrorist. Kharge went on to comment that Modi’s party BJP doesn’t believe in justice and equality.

Soon after receiving backlash, Kharge said he only accused the PM of “terrorizing” political parties and not a terrorist in real terms.

Kharge alleged that Modi is misusing his power along with government machinery while malingering and abusing opposition parties.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned Kharge’s comments and filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI). BJP alleged that Kharge’s comments were defamatory in nature and violated the ECI’s model code of conduct.

An apology was sought from Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by Union minister Piyush Goyal. In a post on X, Goyal remarked he feels totally ashamed that the DMK and Congress have stooped so low that they are now insulting the country’s Prime Minister by calling him a terrorist.

Rajeev Ranjan Prasad, JD (U) leader, condemned the remarks of Kharge against PM Modi.

Goyal remarked that such comments are an insult to the Prime Minister, who is democratically elected by the people of India.

BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra commented that Kharge’s comments were condemnable and reflected the mindset of the INC.

The clarification of Kharge was instantly rejected by the Lok Sabha MP from Odisha. Patra added that Kharge deliberately insulted the PM at the behest of Rahul Gandhi.

Patra added that this was surely not a slip of the tongue but a deliberate attempt to malign the office of the Indian Prime Minister.

Kharge was defended by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal over his PM Modi comment.

Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, posted on X, that the United States is completely wrong to block Iranian ports and it is a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement. Market Reactions

Asian markets demonstrated a mixed trend on early Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, oil prices softened over potential peace talks between USA and Iran. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose, South Korea’s Kospi edged slightly lower, Taiwan’s Taiex outperformed, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.3 percent and China’s Shanghai Composite posted a modest gain of 0.1 percent. Brent Crude remained above $98 a barrel.

Gold prices fell down 2 percent in international markets, Nifty was down 90 points and Sensex fell over 300 points in early Wednesday trading.

Indian Vice President CP Radhakrishnan remarked that the innocent lives lost in that gruesome and dastardly act of terror remain etched in our collective memory.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X that India would always remember the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. Modi added India will never bow to any form of terror and the heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed.

Home Minister Amit Shah posted on X that India solemnly remembers the innocent lives we lost in the horrific Pahalgam terror attack last year. Shah added that India will continue its zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and those who harbour it.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh posted on X that the country India has endured decades of cross-border terror, but today our response is firm, decisive and unwavering. Singh added that India has demonstrated that any attempt to harm its people or disrupt its unity will be met with strength and clarity.

Dr. S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister of India, commented that India stands steadfast in its resolve to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

Omar Abdullah, the sitting Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, commented that India remains resolute in our desire to rid J&K of suffering & innocent deaths.
