The Bhagwant Mann government has announced stricter regulations to prevent private schools from exploiting parents through excessive and arbitrary fee hikes. The move, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, aims to protect students and their families from what the government describes as the commercialisation of education.

Punjab Government Tightens Rules on Private School Fees

Under the new measures, private schools in Punjab will have to follow strict government rules regarding the fixation and increase of school fees. The regulations are intended to bring greater transparency and accountability to the private education sector and prevent schools from imposing unreasonable financial burdens on parents.

CM Bhagwant Mann Announces Strict Action

The government has made it clear that schools violating the prescribed rules will face direct action without unnecessary delay. The decision is being presented as a major step towards protecting the rights and interests of children and their families.

The Punjab government said education should remain focused on providing quality learning opportunities rather than becoming a means of commercial exploitation. The stricter framework is expected to give parents greater protection against unauthorised fee increases and other practices that may place additional financial pressure on families.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has emphasised the need for stronger measures to safeguard children’s rights and ensure accountability in the education system. The government’s latest decision is likely to increase scrutiny of private schools across Punjab and reinforce compliance with fee-related regulations.

The development comes amid growing concerns among parents over rising education costs. With stricter rules and provisions for action against violators, the Punjab government aims to make the private school system more transparent, regulated and parent-friendly.

Strait of Hormuz in Focus as Iran’s Parliament Reviews Strategic Bill on Security, Shipping Access and Sustainable Development, How Will it Impact India?

Strait- of- Hormuz
Google

Iran’s parliament is currently reviewing a preliminary bill that would significantly tighten state control over navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. Under the draft, vessels belonging to the United States, Israel and other countries Tehran designates as hostile would be barred from transiting the strait, while military and civilian cargo linked to Israel would also face a ban. The bill proposes fines of up to 20% of a vessel’s cargo value for violations and requires the government to work with Iran’s armed forces to monitor shipping and enforce environmental and security oversight. It remains under committee-level review, with lawmakers inviting expert input before finalising the text.

Why the Strait Matters So Much

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, carrying around a fifth of global seaborne oil trade. The bill also envisages Iran charging navigation fees on ships passing through — a move that, if implemented, could raise shipping costs well beyond the countries it explicitly targets.

The Stakes for India

India is not named in the bill, but it has significant exposure to the strait: close to 40% of its crude oil imports and more than half of its LNG shipments have historically passed through Hormuz. New Delhi has spent the past year diversifying supply — sourcing crude from roughly 40 countries and leaning more heavily on Russia, the US and West Africa — cutting direct route-dependence to around 30%. Even so, any fee regime or tighter Iranian oversight could push up freight costs and insurance premiums for tankers serving Indian ports, even those unaffected by the vessel ban itself.

The bill is still in committee, and its final shape — particularly the fee structure and enforcement mechanism — will determine how much of an indirect burden it places on non-targeted buyers like India.

Abhijeet Dipke Jumps in on Supreme Court Remark on Mahua Moitra’s Egg-Throwing Concern, Returning the Favour?

Mahua- Moitra
Google

Mahua Moitra: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea by Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra seeking permission to appear virtually before police in a hate-speech case, after her counsel cited security concerns over past egg-throwing incidents at her constituency office. Justice Dipankar Datta, on a bench with Justice Sheel Nagu, was unmoved: “You are a Member of Parliament? Having taken the plunge into politics, you fear eggs? When our freedom fighters have taken bullets on their chest?” The remark led Moitra’s counsel to withdraw the plea, which was dismissed as withdrawn.

Dipke’s Sharp Reaction

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke wasted no time weighing in. Reacting on X, he wrote, “Does the Supreme Court now want everybody to take bullets? When these kinds of statements are made by the judges of the Supreme Court against opposition leaders, what hope does it leave for the common person?” The comment quickly gained traction online, adding Dipke’s voice to a growing chorus criticising the court’s framing of the incident.

Is This a Favour Returned?

The timing has raised eyebrows given the history between the two. Moitra was among the first political heavyweights to publicly back Dipke’s satirical CJP movement in May 2026, praising its rapid rise on social media. With Dipke now stepping up to defend her against a Supreme Court bench’s sharp remarks, many see this as him returning that early support — using his own viral platform to amplify her side of the row just as she once amplified his.

Whether or not it was a deliberate callback, Dipke’s intervention underscores how CJP has evolved from an internet joke into a platform that opposition figures now lean on to push back against institutional criticism — with Dipke and Moitra’s mutual backing becoming a recurring theme in India’s shifting political-satire landscape.

Jharkhand Students Protest: Will Govt Budge or Will Protestors Up The Ante? Check Latest Update

Jharkhand- Students- Protest
Google

Jharkhand Students Protest: Jharkhand‘s student agitation over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations has hit its 15th day with no resolution in sight, after talks between the state government and protest leaders collapsed in Ranchi.

The dialogue, held between a government panel led by Minister Sudivya Kumar and a delegation from the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, ended in a deadlock on Friday. Students, led by Ravindra Paswan, are demanding that the government cancel the 14th JPSC preliminary examination and order a CBI probe — or, alternatively, a fresh inquiry by retired High Court judges from outside Jharkhand — into the alleged paper leaks and recruitment malpractice.

Sunday Ultimatum, August 10 March Looms

The Reforms Manch has now set an ultimatum: if the government fails to give firm commitments by Sunday, protesters say they will march on the state Assembly on August 10, escalating a movement that began on July 25 at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. Organisers say the protest has drawn support without political funding, with food and logistics arranged voluntarily by local temples and community groups — a detail they’ve used to frame the agitation as a grassroots, apolitical push for exam reform.

Assembly Gherao Plan Raises the Stakes

Adding pressure on the government, students have also announced plans to lay siege to the Assembly during the ongoing Monsoon Session, which opened this week. Protesters have dismissed the state’s ongoing CID investigation as inadequate, insisting only an independent judicial or central probe will satisfy them.

With the government so far offering talks but no concrete concessions, and students holding firm on the August 10 deadline, the coming days will determine whether Jharkhand sees a negotiated climbdown or a fresh, more confrontational phase of the protest — one that could disrupt the Assembly’s Monsoon Session altogether.

India’s Russian Oil Purchases Draw Fresh Scrutiny as US Tariffs Bill Clears Senate, Will India Face 100% Tariff?

US- Tariffs
Google

India’s import of Russian crude has attracted further attention following the approval of a bill by the US Senate that would impose a tariff of up to 100% on nations importing Russian energy resources. India is listed among the economies that would be affected by the proposed measure. However, the imposition of a 100% tariff on India has not yet been decided.

Will India Face a 100% Tariff?

The Senate bill sets a maximum tariff ceiling of 100%, but it does not require the US administration to impose the full rate on India. The actual tariff rate would be determined by the US Trade Representative. The legislation also gives the US President the option to issue a waiver under certain national-interest conditions. This means India could face higher tariffs if the measure becomes law and Washington decides to act, but there is currently no confirmation that India will be hit with a 100% tariff.

Why India’s Russian Oil Purchases Matter?

India has significantly increased its purchases of Russian crude in recent years, with energy security and competitive prices among the factors influencing its buying decisions. The US has previously criticised purchases of Russian energy as part of its broader efforts to pressure Moscow over the Ukraine war. India, however, has maintained that its energy imports are guided by national interests and energy security. The latest Senate vote could therefore add another layer of pressure to India-US trade negotiations.

What Happens Next?

The bill now moves to the US House of Representatives. If the House passes the legislation in the same form, it could then reach President Donald Trump for his signature. Even after that, the tariff rate would not necessarily be 100%. The US administration would have discretion over the rate, while the bill also provides a presidential waiver mechanism and requires reassessment every 180 days.
