However, the makers did not step back. Paresh Rawal and Zakir Hussain spoke openly about the research behind the film and asserted that the intention was never to trigger social or religious tensions.

Speaking to NDTV, Rawal defended the homework behind the script. He shared, “Tushar (the director) came with amazing research. There is nothing hanky-panky in it. His sources were clearly mentioned, and I even checked with friends who confirmed the facts. From the very beginning, we made sure there would be no Hindu-Muslim jingoism in this film.”

He further highlighted a dialogue from the film that reflects the makers’ thought process: “There’s even a dialogue in the film where a character says, ‘Brother, it’s you journalists who make everything about Hindu and Muslim. There’s no Hindu-Muslim conflict here. This is about shared history.’”

The film positions itself as a truth-seeking narrative. It suggests that the Taj Mahal may have originally been a palace belonging to King Jai Singh before Shah Jahan took it over. This idea is presented through fictionalised research, legal battles and testimonies.

The first half sets up the plot well, especially the court petition filed by the protagonist Vishnu Das. It is engaging, driven by curiosity and drama. But as the story moves forward, it begins circling the same debate. Long courtroom arguments slow the narrative, making the second half feel stretched.

While the film’s intention is to challenge long-held narratives, it does struggle at times to retain momentum and freshness.

For now, The Taj Story needs strong word of mouth and weekend growth to recover from its slow start. Curiosity around the subject remains high, but whether that translates into footfalls in the coming days will be key.

Paresh Rawal’s sincere performance and the bold premise give the film talking points. But the opening numbers show that getting audiences into cinemas requires more than controversy and curiosity. It needs consistent engagement and a strong narrative pull.

When the Aam Aadmi Party government was formed in Punjab under Bhagwant Mann’s leadership, the biggest challenge was organized crime (gangsterism) and the drug network. Due to the lax policies of previous governments, this problem had taken a massive form, which put especially our younger generation’s future at risk. But, as soon as the government came to power, it made it clear that there would be no place for ‘crime’ and ‘mafia’ in ‘Rangla-Punjab’. This was the government’s first and biggest resolution.

To strike at the root of this problem, the government immediately formed the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF). This was not an ordinary police team, but was specially created to destroy organized crime modules. This force was given complete freedom and modern resources, which helped it successfully catch and break the networks of big gangsters across the state.

The effect of Mann government’s strict measures soon started showing in statistics. According to official NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) data (comparing 2022 to 2021), murder cases in Punjab decreased. Additionally, crimes like kidnapping and theft also showed a decline. In 2022, Punjab’s crime rate was better than many other states in the country, which shows the success of the government’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy.

Drugs had become a curse for Punjab. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann declared a ‘war against drugs’ to end this. Punjab Police conducted large-scale operations, in which thousands of drug smugglers were arrested. For the first time, the government also ran bulldozers on the illegal properties of some notorious drug smugglers. This strict action was necessary to create fear in the minds of criminals and give them a strong message that the ‘drug business’ will not run in Punjab anymore.

The AGTF has achieved great success in breaking the alliance between gangsters and terrorists. Police not only recovered weapons and explosives (like RDX, IED, hand grenades), but also exposed several modules of weapons smuggling through drones. This action is a big victory for Punjab’s internal security, which has ruined the plans of anti-national elements.

Eliminating corruption is equally important in controlling crime. Chief Minister Mann started the Anti-Corruption Action Line (9501200200). This step has curbed bribery in government offices. Along with this, the brave step of taking strict action against ministers and officers of his own party when accused of corruption was also taken, which sent the message that law is equal for everyone.

Emphasis was placed on modernizing Punjab Police. New recruitments were done and special units like ‘Road Safety Force’ were created. Most importantly, the Chief Minister fixed accountability. He gave clear instructions that if law and order deteriorates in any district, the SSP and DC will be personally responsible for it. This strictness has made the police administration more active and accountable than ever before.

Law and order improves only when public trust in police increases. The government established ‘Chief Minister Assistance Centers’, where people can get their problems solved in a time-bound, transparent and effective manner. This has reduced the troubles faced by common people in government offices, which is a big step towards good governance.

The biggest benefit of Mann government’s ‘war on crime’ campaign is going to Punjab’s youth. When the network of gangsters and drugs breaks, youth get a safe and healthy environment. Now they can focus on fulfilling their dreams, rather than being forced to drift towards crime or drugs. It is the government’s foresight that they have opened the path of peace and development for Punjab’s future, that is, the youth.

Atrocities on Farmers Will Prove to Be Last Nail in the Coffin of BJP: CM

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday said that the oppression and atrocities on farmers being made by the BJP will prove to be the last nail in the coffin for the wiping up of the saffron party from the political scene of the country.

Addressing the Kisan Mahapanchayat here today, the Chief Minister, accompanied by National Convener of AAP Arvind Kejriwal, said that hard working and brave food growers of the country will teach BJP a lesson for their high handedness. He said that the power mad leaders of the saffron party had adopted an anti-farmers stance, which is not in the interest of the country. Lauding the enormous contribution of farmers in making our country not only self-reliant but surplus in food production, Bhagwant Singh Mann recalled those unfortunate days when India faced acute shortage of food grains and was seeking it from other countries.

In his address, National Convener of AAP Arvind Kejriwal said that the atrocities by BJP on the land of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel has brought disgrace to the entire country. He said that the AAP wanted to felicitate the families of 85 farmers who have been arrested by the BJP government but the state government has denied it. Arvind Kejriwal said that the AAP is solidly with the farmers of the country in this hour of crisis and will leave no stone unturned for bailing them out.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Minister said that today only Punjab contributes 180 Lakh Metric Ton of paddy and 150 Lakh Metric Ton of wheat in the national food pool. Highlighting the insensitivity of the BJP towards farmers, he said that the state government in Gujarat has not given a single penny of compensation to the farmers after untimely rain, which destroyed their crops. On the other hand, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Punjab government disbursed the cheques for compensation to its farmers within a month after the floods ravaged their crop.

The Chief Minister said that for the first time, farmers are being paid Rs 20,000 per acre as compensation to the farmers, which is the highest in the country. He said that the massive turnout in this mahapanchayat in which the farmers came on their own reflects that the downfall of the BJP has started. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the haughty leaders of BJP are targeting the farmers just to corner benefits to their friends, which cannot be tolerated.

The Chief Minister said that though the ‘Achhe din’ are still a delusion but the ‘Sachhe din’ will soon come in the country when the wise and brave people of the country will oust the saffron party from. Bhagwant Mann said that the countrymen need a government that can cherish the aspirations of all the freedom fighters whereas the BJP is just unleashing an era of tyranny and injustice on them. He said that people will soon send these leaders to political oblivion adding that the huge rush of people in this farmers mahapanchayat is a reflection of this.

The Chief Minister said that farmers are at the receiving end during the regime of the BJP as they are being booked for even seeking their legitimate rights which is totally wrong. He said that the BJP and its governments both at the centre and state have become a puppet in the hands of the affluent businessmen, who are being extended largesse. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the assets of the country are being sold at meager prices to the friends of the Union government which is very unfortunate.

Describing agriculture and farmers as the backbone of the country, the Chief Minister said that it should be given top priority whereas the arrogant BJP leaders are ignoring it. He said that the anti-farmer policies of BJP have further accentuated the woes of the farmers, whose immense contribution in making the country self-reliant in food production has been ignored hitherto. Expressing solidarity with the farmers, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the AAP is solidly with them in their fight against oppression, injustice and tyranny.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s administration has stated that the move aims to make governance people-centric, transparent, and efficient.

The demand for a direct rail service from the holy city of Orchha, home to Shri Ram Raja Sarkar, to Ayodhya has been longstanding. If approved, it will allow devotees from the Bundelkhand region to travel directly to Ayodhya. Responding to public sentiment, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has written a letter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, urging the introduction of a Vande Bharat train on this route.

People from Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Jhansi, and nearby districts of Gwalior have long demanded a direct train service to Ayodhya.” As per local belief, Shri Ram Raja Sarkar spends the day in Orchha and the night in Ayodhya. Hence, a Vande Bharat train running from Virangana Lakshmi Bai Jhansi through Orchha, Chitrakoot, and Prayagraj to Ayodhya would enable devotees to visit all three key pilgrimage sites linked to Lord Ram.

Scindia further mentioned that the proposed route would allow pilgrims to bathe in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. He emphasized that connecting these four major religious cities would not only promote spiritual tourism but also boost trade, culture, and inter-regional exchange. “This train will offer devotees a fast, comfortable, and modern travel experience while enhancing Orchha’s global prominence,” Scindia stated.

He also added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working to develop Orchha as a World Heritage City, and this initiative would align with that vision. Besides the new Vande Bharat proposal, Scindia requested that existing trains such as Tulsi Express, Mahakaushal Express, Chambal Express, and Uttar Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express include a stop at Orchha station.

According to Scindia, “This train will not only act as a bridge of devotion but will also help realize the Prime Minister’s vision of integrating faith, tourism, and development.”

Political analysts believe this will not die out quickly. For some, Vance’s statements represent a strategic and intentional effort to move toward more Christian conservative voters – an influential and important voting demographic if he decides to pursue the presidency in 2028.
