Punjab’s government schools have scripted a remarkable turnaround under the Bhagwant Mann Government’s ‘Sikhya Kranti’, with the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB)’s Class 10 results not only recording an impressive 94.52% pass percentage but also showcasing the growing dominance of girls and government school students in merit rankings. As 2,54,744 students cleared the examinations, girls secured two of the top three positions, while 88 students from government schools featured in the merit list, reflecting the sweeping transformation brought about by the AAP Government’s focus on modern classrooms, teacher training and equal educational opportunities.

Hailing the results as proof of Punjab’s ‘Sikhya Kranti’, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday felicitated the three students who secured the top three positions in the Class 10 results, asserting that the children of Punjab possess limitless talent and are now getting the platform and infrastructure needed to compete with the best in the country.

Congratulating the students, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “These students, Harleen Sharma, Manimahesh Sharma and Riya Rani, have secured 99.38%, 99.23% and 99.23% respectively in these examinations. They have burnt the midnight oil and achieved this success through sheer hard work, dedication and determination. This is a proud and momentous occasion for all of us, and the students, their parents and teachers deserve immense appreciation for this achievement.”

The Chief Minister stated, “These students will become role models for their peers and younger generations. They will inspire countless other students to excel in the field of education. These children have proved that if they are given wings to fly, they can soar to great heights in every sphere. Our Government is fully committed to providing the best possible environment for quality school education to every student in the state.”

The Chief Minister announced that all three students would get direct admission to the Schools of Eminence in any stream of their choice. He also handed over cheques worth ₹50,000 each to the students as a mark of appreciation for their exceptional accomplishment.

Highlighting Punjab’s rise in the education sector, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Due to the strenuous efforts of the Punjab Government, Punjab has surpassed Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi to secure the number one position in primary and middle-school education. Earlier Kerala held the top rank, but today Punjab has secured the number one position with a huge margin.”

The students said it was encouraging to see the government providing free access to IIT and JEE coaching, which was opening new opportunities for students from ordinary families.

Punjab’s ‘Shikhya Kranti’ Deliver Record Results as Girls Outshine Boys, Govt Schools Shine in Merit List

The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB)’s Class 10 results for March 2026 have once again underlined the transformative impact of the Bhagwant Mann Government’s ‘Sikhya Kranti’, with Punjab emerging as one of the country’s leading states in school education through sweeping reforms introduced by the AAP Government.

As per the results, a total of 2,69,505 students appeared in the examinations, out of which 2,54,744 students passed, registering an impressive overall pass percentage of 94.52%. Girls continued to outperform boys with a pass percentage of 95.96%, while boys recorded 93.23%. Amritsar district secured the highest pass percentage at 98.41%, while Ludhiana district recorded the highest number of merit positions.

Reflecting the growing strength of Punjab’s government school system under the Bhagwant Mann Government, 272 students secured positions in the merit list, including 220 girls and 52 boys. Significantly, 88 students from government schools featured in the merit list, showcasing how the Bhagwant Mann Government’s sustained investment in quality education, smart classrooms, teacher training and modern infrastructure is delivering historic outcomes.

In another major achievement for Punjab’s education sector, as many as 3,718 schools recorded a 100% result, including 1,688 government schools. The results are being seen as a strong endorsement of the Bhagwant Mann Government’s education-focused governance model, which has prioritised strengthening government schools and ensuring that children from ordinary families receive world-class opportunities in education.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday strongly condemned the BJP-led Central Government’s decision to make Sanskrit compulsory and Punjabi an optional subject in Army schools across Punjab, stating that the move reflects the Centre’s continued attempts to undermine Punjab’s identity, language and cultural roots. Addressing the issue, AAP Punjab State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu stated, “The BJP-led Central Government’s decision to make Sanskrit compulsory and Punjabi optional in Army schools across Punjab is yet another reflection of its anti-Punjab mindset. The BJP has consistently tried to undermine Punjab’s rights and identity, but the people of Punjab will never tolerate such attempts.”

The AAP Punjab Media In-charge asserted that the BJP’s anti-Punjab decisions have repeatedly triggered public anger and controversy. “Whether it was the attempt to keep Chandigarh, built after the displacement of Punjab’s villages, completely under the Centre’s control, the move to bring Panjab University under Haryana’s fold, or the effort to hand over the management of BBMB to the Centre, the BJP has consistently tried to weaken Punjab at every step. Now, by diminishing the importance of Punjabi language in Army schools, the Centre has once again exposed its narrow and anti-Punjab mindset,” said Baltej Pannu.

Clarifying AAP’s stand, Baltej Pannu said, “We are not opposed to any language, but relegating Punjabi to a secondary status on the soil of Punjab is completely unacceptable. We are people who take immense pride in our mother tongue, and we are prepared to stand firm and fight at every level to protect its dignity and honour. This decision is not just an act of linguistic discrimination, but a deeper conspiracy to disconnect Punjab from its cultural roots.”

Baltej Pannu warned that the Central Government must immediately revoke what he termed an anti-people and anti-Punjab decision. “Punjabis have always stood united against any insult to their mother tongue and will continue to strongly oppose such authoritarian policies of the Centre in the future as well,” he added.

From solving crime to tracking criminals, ICCC a modern-day weapon for Punjab Police

The futuristic Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) launched by the Punjab Police is setting new standards in modern-day policing across the nation. From tracking criminals to nabbing troublemakers, the Punjab Police has got an extra edge to make ‘Punjab safe’ using Artificial Intelligence, topped with human intelligence of the state force.

Recently, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, inaugurated the ICCC in Ludhiana, under which as many as 1,700 high-resolution cameras have been installed at 259 locations to strengthen the surveillance grid of the city, known as the ‘industrial hub’ of the country.

Jalandhar is emerging as another example of the success of the ICCC project. Functioning with 1,007 high-resolution cameras in the city-wide surveillance grid, the ICCC has put a positive impact on solving various cases. It helped in the movement reconstruction in the armed robbery of ₹1 crore in gold and ₹2 lakh in cash from a jewellery store in Bhargav Camp. The ICCC helped personnel synchronise 12 junction feeds simultaneously. By reconstructing the suspects’ getaway path through the city’s alleys, the police identified their hideout and recovered the stolen assets.

It also helped in digital evidence fusion during the grenade attack on the house of a former Punjab Minister and BJP leader, Manoranjan Kalia. The investigators established a complex visual trail from the crime site to the Jalandhar Railway Station. The suspect was eventually identified on footage and traced across four states through a ₹3,500 online transaction used during his escape, leading to his arrest in Delhi.

The high-resolution tracking cameras also helped in coordination. In the Santokhpura firing incident, where some assailants fired nearly 12 shots at the residence of a veterinary doctor, the high-resolution cameras recorded one suspect filming the act on a mobile phone while the other fired. Using the ICCC resolution, which involved expert coordination between the public ICCC grid and local private CCTV, details were captured and visual markers were developed to trace the suspects back through main surveillance corridors.

Following the investigation, two accused were arrested and two weapons were recovered. CCTV footage provided clear visuals of the gunman in a distinctive black hoodie and his accomplice on a black two-wheeler. This identification was cross-referenced with digital monitoring of gang responsibility claims, leading to the naming of the primary suspects in the police report. The high-fidelity identification was used to track the Western Union cash loot incident, where some masked men looted Rs 1.08 lakh from a travel shop in Harnamdas Pura. Despite the suspects wearing masks, high-fidelity cameras captured their entry and exit points. Operators mapped their pre-crime planning movements across multiple streets.

In Jalandhar alone, as many as 982 fixed cameras for continuous monitoring and perimeter security, and 15 have Pan-Tilt-Zoom for high-precision active tracking. As many as 10 have facial recognition for biometric matching at transit hubs, and 20 locations are equipped with Wi-Fi hotspots and additional sensors. The ICCC operators can filter through thousands of hours of historical footage in seconds by defining attributes such as ‘Red Shirt,’ ‘White SUV’ and even ‘Vehicle Speed.’

On this, DGP Gaurav Yadav stated, “Punjab Police has zero tolerance for organised crime and gangsters. While the force is running successful operations against criminals and gangsters on the ground, the ICCC installed in various districts of the state is helping the force work more efficiently. Punjab Police is capable of hitting the core of crime, and with recent developments our motive is pretty clear in dealing with criminals.”

The automated algorithms continuously scan over 1,000 feeds to detect predefined anomalies, including abandoned object detection for security alerts, crowd formation detection to identify illegal gatherings, and camera tampering alerts, which trigger immediate manual review.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police (Jalandhar) Dhanpreet Randhawa stated, “The ICCC functions as the ‘City’s Brain,’ transforming raw data into actionable intelligence for municipal and law enforcement departments. It utilises a ‘Single Pane of Glass’ dashboard, merging traffic density, crime hotspots, and municipal sensor health into a unified GIS-mapped interface. This allows seamless coordination between Police, Traffic, and Municipal services in a centralized war room environment.”

“AI has surely made things better, but the important part is to use it in the right manner. Punjab Police works round the clock to ensure a full grip over troublemakers by using the ICCC properly. It is basically a combination of artificial and human intelligence. The ICCC has given an extended arm to various projects ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, ‘Operation Parhar’ and many more,” added Commissioner of Police (Jalandhar).

In Ludhiana, the newly inaugurated ICCC integrates multiple units under one roof, including Traffic, Police Control Room (PCR), Safe City, and Wireless units, which has significantly enhanced synergy and coordination in police working and reduced PCR response time from 15 minutes to just 7–8 minutes. In Ludhiana, under the ICCC project, as many as 1,700 high-resolution cameras have been installed at 259 locations to strengthen the city’s surveillance grid. It also possesses the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) installed at 46 different locations.

Punjab Cabinet Minister Mr. Aman Arora on Tuesday assumed office as the Minister for Industries & Commerce at Udyog Bhawan, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

Notably, Mr. Arora already holds key portfolios including Employment Generation, Skill Development & Training, New & Renewable Energy Sources, Good Governance & Information Technology and Printing & Stationery.

After taking charge, Mr. Arora expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Sh. Arvind Kejriwal for reposing faith in him. He said that his top priority would be to transform Punjab into a most preferred investment destination by cutting red tape, promoting sustainable industries and ensuring that every industrial expansion translates directly into local jobs, besides, creating a seamless ecosystem linking industrial policy, clean energy, skill development and governance reform.

“My goal is to make Punjab a model for ‘Ease of Doing Business’ while generating dignified, skill-based employment for our youth,” Mr. Aman Arora stated.

With Industries & Commerce now aligned with Skill Development and Renewable Energy, the state is building a circular economy where growth, green energy and employment go hand in hand, he added.

News about a mysterious virus outbreak on a cruise ship near the Canary Islands has triggered panic online, with many people wondering whether the world could be heading towards another pandemic. The virus at the centre of the concern is Hantavirus, a rare but serious infection linked mainly to rodents.

As fear spreads on social media, former AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria has now addressed the situation and urged people not to panic unnecessarily. According to him, while the outbreak is being closely monitored by international health authorities, the chances of Hantavirus turning into a global pandemic remain extremely low.

The recent scare is linked to the cruise ship MV Hondius, where several passengers reportedly developed Hantavirus infection symptoms during a journey from Argentina towards the Canary Islands. Reports suggest that at least eight cases, including three deaths, have been linked to the outbreak so far.

Hantavirus Outbreak: What Former AIIMS Director Said

Dr Guleria explained that Hantavirus is mainly a rodent-borne viral infection. Humans usually get infected after coming into contact with rodent saliva, urine or droppings. The infection can affect the lungs and kidneys and may lead to severe respiratory illness in some cases.

However, he clarified that human-to-human transmission is extremely rare. According to the doctor, only one strain, known as the Andes Hantavirus has shown limited evidence of person-to-person spread, and even that remains under debate among experts.

Dr Guleria stressed that there is currently no reason for widespread fear. He said international agencies are already monitoring the outbreak carefully, and the likelihood of a large-scale epidemic or pandemic is considered very low.

The World Health Organisation and other global health agencies are also tracking passengers because the virus has a long incubation period. Some countries have reportedly introduced quarantine and monitoring measures for returning travellers.

Prevention And Safety Measures

Experts say prevention mainly depends on avoiding exposure to rodents and contaminated areas. Dr Guleria advised people to be especially careful while cleaning places where rodents may be present.

He recommended using masks and protective equipment while handling dusty spaces, storage rooms or areas containing rodent droppings. According to health experts, inhaling particles contaminated by rodent waste is one of the main ways Hantavirus spreads.

The current outbreak reportedly involves Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome, a severe respiratory condition associated with the Andes strain. Although the disease has a high fatality rate, experts continue to maintain that the overall global risk remains low.

For now, health officials are focusing on surveillance, isolation and monitoring to prevent further spread. Doctors also continue to remind people that awareness and hygiene are the best ways to stay protected without falling into panic.
