Income Tax Rules 2026: The Union Government has notified the Income Tax Rules 2026, offering the final regulatory framework for the Income Tax Act 2025 that would replace the 65-year-old tax laws of 1961.

The new regime would go live on 1st April 2026 and would see reduced sections to 536 from 800 while also cutting down the count of chapters to 23 from 47. Issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the notification has confirmed a huge structural overhaul.

Income Tax Rules 2026-New Updates

The Income Tax Act 2025 eliminates the “previous year” and “assessment year” confusion. Going forward, the year in which the income is earned by an individual or a business would also be the year in which it gets computed and taxed. This would help in the simplification of income tax for millions of Indian residents and businesses.

House Rent Allowance (HRA)

The new HRA would now also extend to cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad along with Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai. Individuals living in these cities could now claim HRA exemptions up to 50 percent of their salary while those in other locations could claim up to 40 percent.

Children’s Education, Hostel And Other Allowances

The new children education rules have increased the allowance from Rs. 100 to Rs. 3000 per month per child (for a maximum of 2 children). The hostel expenditure allowance has been raised to Rs. 9000 per month from Rs. 300 a month.

Tax-Free Income Threshold

The tax-free income threshold would remain the same in FY26-27 as in FY25-26. Individuals who file standard returns like ITR-2 and ITR-1 would now have to submit their income tax returns by July 31. On the other hand, those with professional or business income not needing audit would have to submit by August 31 while those requiring audit would have to submit by October 31. Special cases would have to submit their income tax returns by November 30. These timelines would come into effect from the tax year 2026-27.

Continuing its sustained campaign #YudhNashianVirudh, the Punjab Police India carried out large-scale operations across Punjab, targeting drug trafficking networks and hotspots.

On Day 383 of the campaign, police conducted raids at 426 identified drug hotspots and registered 200 FIRs as part of coordinated enforcement actions. Officials said the operations were based on intelligence inputs and aimed at dismantling organized drug supply chains across the state.

During the crackdown, 248 drug smugglers were arrested, while authorities recovered 710 grams of heroin, 20 kg of poppy husk, 2,655 intoxicant tablets and capsules, and ₹14,150 in drug money. The seizures were made during simultaneous raids conducted in multiple districts.

Anti-Drug Crackdown on Day 383 in Punjab

According to official data, the cumulative number of arrests under the campaign has now reached 54,190 in 383 days, reflecting the scale and continuity of the anti-drug drive.

Officials stated that along with strict enforcement, the campaign also focuses on rehabilitation and awareness to curb drug abuse at the grassroots level. Community engagement programmes and coordination with local bodies are being carried out to identify affected individuals and encourage them to seek treatment.

The anti-drug initiative is a key focus area of the state government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, aimed at eliminating the drug menace and ensuring a safer environment for the people of Punjab.

Senior officials added that continuous monitoring and data-driven strategies are being used to identify emerging drug hotspots and prevent the resurgence of illegal networks. Special teams have been deployed to strengthen surveillance and ensure swift action against repeat offenders.

The police also emphasized that public cooperation remains crucial in the fight against drugs. Indian Railways: On the occasion of Navratri 2026, good news has emerged for lakhs of Indian Railways running staff (locomotive pilots and guards). Recently, a 50 percent hike in Dearness allowance (DA) was announced. Now, an in-principle approval for an increase of 25 percent has been granted by Railways in the Minimum Guaranteed Kilometerage Allowance (KMA), according to Shiv Gopal Mishra, General Secretary of the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF).

Mishra remarked that the development is a result of long-standing struggle and unity among the employees of Indian Railways. The AIRF General Secretary said he recently had a discussion with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and raised the issue. The Railways Minister assured Mishra that orders for the same would soon be issued for the benefit of locomotive pilots and guards.

Indian Railways-What is Kilometerage Allowance (KMA)?

Kilometerage Allowance (KMA) is provided to employees who are posted on running duties, i.e., those operating trains. Unlike regular office staff, running-staff employees who travel continuously during their duty are not entitled to receive a daily allowance (DA). Therefore, a fixed amount for every 100 kilometres travelled is paid to them. This includes a minimum guaranteed Kilometerage Allowance.

KMA is decided by the Indian Ministry of Railways via bilateral discussions with the concurrence of the Ministry of Finance and the Railway Federations (National Federation of Indian Railwaymen and All India Railwaymen’s Federation).

According to posts on social media, many people in Pakistan managed to watch the film at home. The situation quickly went viral online and triggered strong reactions from users.

Pakistanis MOCKED For Watching Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge Via Piracy Amid Ban

The controversy started after journalist and research consultant of the film, Aditya Raj Kaul, shared a post on X. He reshared a tweet by a Pakistani journalist who claimed he was watching the movie in Lahore at his house. Kaul wrote, “Sadly Dhurandhar – The Revenge pirated version has reached Pakistan today itself. Below is a Pakistani Journalist confirming the same and enjoying the film on his Home Screen. Pakistanis can’t live without Indian Cinema even if it’s about crushing Pakistani terror! (sic).”

Several users commented on the viral post and shared their views about the film being watched despite the ban in Pakistan. One user wrote, “Let them watch how India ghar mai ghus kar har bar marta hain and let a few more tv screens be broken.”

Another commented,  “It was for sure that the pirated copy will get circulated within the hours of release, As they can’t stay without watching it. After all, they also want to see their own reality.”

A third user said, “They just can’t live without Indian cinema, that’s the truth …..because they can never make a film so superior.”

One more joked, “Karachi today is ranked safer than Delhi. They should be grateful to Hamza Ali Mazari for cleaning up the city (laughs).”

Some Indian films are officially banned in Pakistan, but incidents like this show that the demand for Hindi cinema still exists there. Even the first part of Dhurandhar was watched in the country through pirated copies after its release.

A weak Indian rupee could “force” foreign investors to pull money out of India, resulting in high market volatility and unstable markets. Jobs and businesses in India may get impacted as companies would face higher costs, resulting in hiring slowdown and pressure on small businesses.

In the immediate short term, the Union Government would deploy a series of tools to control inflation to ensure Indian economy is relatively stable. RBI intervention is also likely and it may resort to the sale of US dollars. However, risks could prevail if war continues for long. It could then lead to supply disruptions, continuous rupee fall and prolonged high oil prices.

Donald Trump: The US Department of Defence has sought $200 billion from the US Congress for military campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Pentagon’s request came after the United States Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth commented that it takes money for killing the bad individuals.

US Expenses On Iran War

The United States had spent approximately $11 billion in the first week alone of the US Israel Iran war. Combined with an additional Pentagon‘s request of $200 billion, the war expenditure by USA could easily exceed more than half of the annual GDP of Iran that stood at $356.51 billion last year. According to the US Senate Appropriations Committee, a sum of $838.5 billion has already been approved by the Congress in defence funding for the 2026 fiscal year.

According to media reports, the funding request would likely stage a severe political battle in US Congress as Democrats have been sharply critical and public support for the Iran war remains tepid.

Iran Mocks War Joined By Donald Trump

Iran immediately mocked the funding request saying the United States is burdening its own citizens for serving an ‘Israel first’ agenda.

This is not the first time that the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has taken a dig at USA for being involved in the war. A few days back, Araghchi had commented that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dragged the United States and Donald Trump into “his war against Iran.”

It was after Trump had commented that the United States was not a party to the Israeli operation on the South Pars gas field in Iran. The Islamic Republic of Iran soon retaliated by targeting a series of gas facilities in the Middle East.

Trump went on to comment that Israel would not be launching any more attacks on South Pars unless Iran provokes by hitting Qatar facilities.

Ustaad Bhagat Singh Box Office Collection Day 1: Pawan Kalyan’s latest action entertainer, Ustaad Bhagat Singh, made a solid debut at the Indian box office on Thursday, March 19, 2026. The film earned a net collection of Rs 31.5 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, despite receiving mostly unfavourable reviews. Its release coincided with the festive Ugadi weekend, giving it a strong launch window for family audiences.

The film faced tough competition from Aditya Dhar’s Hindi spy thriller Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh. The Ranveer Singh-led film earned Rs 102 crore on Day 1, about 69% higher than Pawan Kalyan’s opening. This shows the nationwide pull of Dhurandhar 2 and the challenge regional films face against pan-India blockbusters.

Ustaad Bhagat Singh Box Office Collection: How It Compares

While Ustaad Bhagat Singh’s debut is decent, it is lower than Pawan Kalyan’s previous releases. They Call Him OG (2025) opened at Rs 63.75 crore domestically, earning Rs 21 crore from paid previews a day before its worldwide release. Similarly:

  • Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 (2025) – Rs 34.75 crore
  • Bro (2023) – Rs 30.05 crore
  • Bheemla Nayak (2022) – Rs 37.15 crore
  • Vakeel Saab (2021) – Rs 40.10 crore

The gap between opening numbers and lifetime collections is notable. OG collected Rs 295.22 crore worldwide, while Hari Hara Veera Mallu earned Rs 116.88 crore against a Rs 300 crore budget. Bro grossed Rs 114 crore, Bheemla Nayak earned Rs 158.50 crore against an Rs 80 crore budget, and Vakeel Saab collected Rs 137.50 crore versus Rs 70 crore.

About The Film

Ustaad Bhagat Singh follows a fearless police officer, played by Pawan Kalyan, who fights crime and political corruption at the Mahankali Police Station in Pathar Gunj. The story traces his journey from a tribal boy, shaped by a teacher who names him Bhagat Singh, to a determined man standing against injustice. His main adversary is the villainous CM aspirant Chadala Marri Nalla Nagappa, played by R. Parthiban.

The film also stars Sreeleela as Leela and Raashii Khanna as Shloka. Supporting actors include R. Parthiban, Ashutosh Rana, Gautami, KS Ravikumar and Rao Ramesh. Directed by Harish Shankar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the film runs for approximately 2 hours and 34 minutes (154 minutes).Despite mixed reviews, Ustaad Bhagat Singh has shown strong regional appeal, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Whether the film can maintain momentum over the weekend remains to be seen.

LPG Shortage: The Indian Government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act amid the ongoing global energy crisis because of Middle East crisis. This would make it mandatory for all oil and gas organisations in the country that are engaged in processing, production, storage, refining, import, export, consumption, transportation, marketing and distribution of natural gas and petroleum products to furnish their real-time, granular data to the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).

LPG Shortage-Turn Of Events

Sujata Sharma, joint secretary in the ministry of petroleum, remarked that a Gazette notification has been issued by the Union Government designating PPAC has the nodal agency to collect, compile, analysis and maintain information. Previously, PPAC was entrusted with the task of compiling oil & gas sector data but now it would seek real-time, granular data to plan proactively for emergencies.

Any order violation under Section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act would be treated as a criminal offence and could result in imprisonment.

Sharma commented that Indian refineries are presently operating at optimum capacity and added that the supply of crude oil is adequate. She went on to add that no dry outs have been reported and petrol pumps are functioning normally.

Advantages Of Real-Time, Granular Data

Real-time, granular data would help the government stay aware of how much oil & gas is getting produced, stored, imported and consumed on a daily basis. This proactive, data-driven approach would help the country avoid or at least soften any future energy shocks.

What Does The Essential Commodities Act Do?

The ECA allows the Union Government to consider specific goods including medicines, foodgrains, fuel and fertilisers as “essential” for public welfare. The law helps the Union Government to order refineries in the country to maximise LPG production. It also helps them divert butane and propane away from petrochemicals to LPG. The government has also directed state-owned oil companies like HPCL, BPCL and IOCL to prioritise household LPG users ahead of commercial LPG users.

The release of the Bihar Board (BSEB) class 10 and 12 results in 2026 is nearing completion. Key processes have been completed, results are now anticipated “soon” to be released. 

Result Date: When Will BSEB Declare Results?

According to the most recent updates, BSEB’s 10th Class Result 2026 is expected to be released on or about March 27 at 11:00 A.M.; If Class 12 results are forthcoming this could also occur very shortly after BSEB classes 10 release results.

BSEB most recently has started the process of verifying Topper Candidates which is generally the last step prior to the establishment of a release date. 

In short, there is a high likelihood that results will be posted within the next weeks; however, preparation for the eventual official release could be made only with little or no notice from BSEB.

Toppers to Get Big Cash Prizes and Gifts

The Bihar Secondary Education Board has continued with their usual tradition of providing rewards to merit scholars. As for the top three merit list holders in 2026 they would receive the following for first place:

1st Prize: ₹2,00,000 + Laptop + Medal

2nd Prize: ₹1,50,000 + Laptop

3rd Prize : ₹1,00,000 + Laptop.

4th to 10th ranks holders will be awarded ₹20,000.

In addition to the cash awards, students will receive Kindles (or similar devices), certificates, scholarships, and any combination of these.

Recently, the above-mentioned prizes were revised with significantly increased amounts to encourage students to perform at high levels in academics.

Students can view their results after declaration (on the BSEB site by entering: Roll number and code) as well as the information about the 2026 result in comparison to previous years (in terms of a pass percentage) will reflect greater efficiency and also provide recognition for success.
