CWC meet: leaked tweets, misinformation highlight compatibility issue among Congress

As expected, the Congress Working Committee(CWC) meet on Monday turned out to be a stormy affair with things happening that has never happened before. When the strict members only, standard closed-door, no-phones allowed CWC went digital amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the proceedings appeared to be leaky, with notable information being aired live on TV.

The already tumultuous situation became overwrought as the CWC led to some finger-pointing on top leaders. Meanwhile, some tweets, some solely to be withdrawn, were posted by individuals within the long and careful consideration or discussion.

The confidentiality issue of the meet was raised by senior members like organisation common secretary Okay C Venugopal and Ahmed Patel who referred to images and details about proceedings being reported live.

Patel further said that the leaks will be probed as some of the pictures that surfaced on the internet showed congress chief Sonia Gandhi addressing the meet.

Before the CWC details leak, the dissenters’ letter to Sonia Gandhi who sought “a full-time, visible leadership” also had disclosed on the internet. Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was one of the signatories, also slammed the minute-by-minute reporting of the proceeding.

This attempt was considered by some to argue that besides letter, a lot has been compromised due to lack of security.

The situation worsened when Rahul Gandhi accused the dissenters of “colluding with BJP”. He also claimed that Azad had offered to resign if Gandhi could “prove his involvement with BJP”.

Senior member Kapil Sibal, who is one of the leaders behind the letter but isn’t a member of CWC, withdrew an angry tweet saying that Rahul Gandhi personally informed him that the remark wasn’t attributed to him.

“Rahul Gandhi says we are colluding with BJP. Succeeded in Rajasthan High Court defending the Congress party. Defending party in Manipur to bring down BJP Government. Last 30 years have never made a statement in favour of BJP on any issue yet ‘we are colluding with the BJP!'” Sibal had said in a now withdrawn tweet.

However, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala dismissed the tweet by saying: “Rahul Gandhi hasn’t said a word of this nature nor alluded to it. Please don’t be misled by false media disclosure and misinformation being spread. But yes, we all need to work together in fighting the draconian Modi rule rather than fighting and hurting each other than the Congress.”

According to some sources, a former MP and a senior functionary, who had close links with media, were responsible for sharing the screen shot of the virtual meeting and leaking the information.

Mamta Banerjee urged PM Modi to cancel the JEE/NEET examination

The coronavirus numbers are surging in India and it is the biggest matter of concern as of now the increasing pace of coronavirus in the country, once again the rising the clouds of the crisis on the students. The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee is still on her stand of not conducting JEE/NEET examinations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Chief Minister of West Bengal tweeted, “In our last video conference with the Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, I had been vocal against the UGC guidelines mandating completion of terminal examinations in Universities/Colleges by the end of September 2020, which had a huge potential to put student lives at risk.”

She also appealed the Education Ministry of India to rethink on their decision to conduct the examination and make it happen after the situation gets normal.

“Now with the directive of @EduMinOfIndia to conduct NEET, JEE 2020 in Sep, I would again appeal to the Centre to assess the risk and postpone these examinations until the situation is conducive again. It is our duty to ensure a safe environment for all our students,” Mamta Banerjee twitted.

The veteran TMC leader also sent her letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking for his intervention in this broad level university examination.

CM of West Bengal has been a vocal critic of the Centre’s policy of having exams for students in the pandemic.

Apart from Mamta Banerjee, political and social leaders from across the country including BJP MP Subramanian Swamy have expressed their apprehensions against the conduction of the exam in the current scenario. Many student organisations have objected to this as well.

The hashtag SATYAGRAHagainstExamInCovid was also trending on twitter today.

On the other hand, some sections of society believe that this exam is necessary for the situation of the education system to improve in this pandemic. Every year more than a million students appear in these two examinations and many take year drops to qualify in these examinations.

“After the raid in Meerut, we found evidence of another such printing press in Amroha. A raid was carried out in Gajraula area and the duplicate books were seized. Prima facie, it appears that the same accused were managing this press as well but it remains part of the investigation. There is a possibility that more such fake operations were being carried out in west UP and similar raids will be made as per the gathered evidence,” said SP (STF) Kuldeep.

”There is no authorised printing press for publishing NCERT books in Meerut, but this illegal business of publishing and sale of books on this scale was continuing for over five years,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (Meerut) Ajay Sahni.

“I will come out with valid documents authorised by the NCERT to publish these books. I have fallen victim to party’s inner politics,” said Gupta over the phone before going into hiding.

Meanwhile, the BJP district unit said Gupta has been suspended as the party “believes in zero tolerance on corruption and crime”.

“No anomalies on crime and corruption are tolerated by the party leadership which is why we have suspended Sanjeev Gupta. Nobody has got the right to denigrate the party’s image and fill his or her own coffers with illegal means,” said BJP Meerut unit chief Sanjeev Singhal.

According to Meerut police, there are only four printing press in UP that have been authorised by the NCERT to publish books.

Mirzapur 2: Check out when Amazon Prime’s popular crime series will start streaming

‘When is the season two of Mirzapur releasing?’ – has remained one of the most asked questions for over a year now. The question has finally been answered as the makers on Monday revealed the date of the much-anticipated second season of Amazon Prime Video series.

In a video announcement, it was revealed that season two of the popular crime drama, Mirzapur, will release on October 23.

The video featured Ali Fazal aka Guddu Bhaiya’s voice over who described two kinds of people in the world — dead and alive followed by a third kind — missing.

“Hum se sab chheen liye aur humein zinda chhod diye. Galti kiye (They took everything from me and left me alive. Big mistake),” he culminated the video with a warning.

Going by the video, it is clear that drama and suspense in the season 2 is going to be bigger and better.

The first season of the series ended with Munna(Divyendu) killing Guddu’s brother Bablu(Vikran Massey) and wife Sweety(Shriya Pilgaonkar) and the second season’s story will supposedly take over from there.

Set in a dark and complex narrative, Mirzapur’s first season revolved around a crime lord named Kaleen Bhaiya(Pankaj Tripathi) and two brothers Guddu and Bablu who amateurly get associated with crime lord’s world of guns, drugs and politics.

Talking about the new season, Rasika Dugal, who plays Kaleen Bhaiya’s wife in the series, said: “The ‘Mirzapur’ audience is very loyal. The first question to any of my posts on social media is always ‘Mirzapur season 2 kab aayega’. So am happy that we are finally bringing season 2. I am sure they will feel the wait has been worth it, as season 2 has a lot to offer. They will get to meet their favourite characters again and will also be introduced to some very interesting new ones. On my part, I thoroughly enjoyed being Beena Tripathi again. We will see a different side of her this season but just as powerful and unpredictable.”

The new season will see actors Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Rasika Dugal and Harshita, Shekhar Gaur will return reprising their roles from the first season, as will Amit Sial, Anjum Sharma, Sheeba Chaddha, Manu Rishi Chadha and Rajesh Tailang.

Twitter takes action against Trump’s tweet for ‘misleading health claims’

Twitter on Sunday assigned a public interest notice to President Trump’s tweet for “making misleading health claims that could potentially dissuade people from participation in voting.”

Trump, in his tweet, had claimed that mail drop boxes are “voter security disaster” as they are not covid-sanitized.

“So now the democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they places in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not covid sanitized,” he had tweeted.

Hours after Trump tweeted, Twitter took action, stating, “We placed a public interest notice on this Tweet for violating our Civic Integrity Policy for making misleading health claims that could potentially dissuade people from participation in voting.”

After this action from Twitter, users won’t be able to like, reply or retweet the tweet.

Trump’s claim has been quashed by US scientists who said people are unlikely to catch the coronavirus from touching such a box. Moreover, to avoid any possibility, people can just sanitize their hands after touching the mail boxes.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that the main way to infect covid-19 is by coming in direct contact with the person positive for the virus. They also said while it is possible to catch the infection from a surface, this is still not the primary cause of spread.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Twitter and Facebook had blocked a video shared by the account linked to Trump for spreading misinformation regarding the coronavirus. The president then had said he was being unnecessarily targeted.
